If you are afraid of the dark, do not read these while alone! These tales will send a shiver down your spine!
Perfect rainy afternoon reading material! Absolutely loved these stories.
This was an interesting read, and one that will captivate you. The beginning was a bit slow, and it took me some time to get into the story, but once it picks up, you are going to become more invested in the characters, and maybe even find yourself flipping back to the beginning!
I didn't know that this was inspired by true events. There are some aspects of WWII that I am not super strong in, and I found myself learning something new!
Great weekend read!
If you are wanting to get a glimpse inside some of the haunted areas around the world, this is a great book to dive into. I enjoyed learning about the histories and backgrounds of some of these locations, as I was not familiar with all of them.
A wayfaring stranger comes upon a house, in the middle of nowhere, but the horrors the house holds have yet to be revealed.
A fabulous and thrilling read! I loved this!
Abraham Heschel brings a wallop in this book, talking about a variety of topics, but all tied together through one common thread - faith. It was eye-opening, and thought provoking, with questions being raised and answered, different ideas and solutions thrown out, as well as a descriptive overview of views and highlights that are important.
Engaging and interesting read!
Serial killers have long held a fascination with the world, and people hang onto much of what we see about them. This book offers a different perspective - their own words. I enjoyed reading through it, and getting a little insight into what they are thinking - and thinking of a few questions I would ask them myself!
Great for the serial killer aficionado in your life! This is a captivating (not decapitating) read!
Saddle up for an adventure that is going to knock you over! This book is packed full of information on the Lawmen of the Wild West, and there is SO MUCH INFORMATION!
I loved reading through this one! Isaac Parker and Wild Bill Hickock were two of my favorites to read about. Lawmen of the Wild West draws the romantic notion of the west, and kicks that out of the window. It was lawless, but there were some who did their best to bring law and order. This rather makes me think a bit of the old radio show, “Have Gun, Will Travel.” These men did their best to bring justice (but let's be honest, some of them managed to hit the wrong side of the law too), and in turn, shaped their names to be remembered throughout history, and the struggle for taming the west.
Hands down one of the best books I have read this year!
Fascinating and interesting read! For those who are interested in serial killers, this book is for you!
Meticulously researched and well put together, this book is going to take you down the poisoned path of murder, and reveals the story in-depth along the way! This is one that you do NOT want to miss!
Oh, I think this book is going to be on my short list of “things I can use with students in the future” shelves. I absolutely loved reading through this book! It was full of great history, backgrounds on the outlaws, their gangs, and so much more! Photos rounded out the book so that you could put a face with the name, and it really helped to shape the small snippets of information that many know.
Alice in Wonderland has long been a beloved children's book, but there is a side to the story that most didn't know. After reading this book, I was blown away with the amount of information that was presented! Holy moly! I had no clue that Alice was based on a real person, or that she distanced herself from the author.
The different nuances that are presented in this book will have you rethinking the way you look at this classic children's story, and make you want to read it again - to see if you can pick up on anything that was mentioned in this book! I know that I am going to be reading it a bit deeper than I did before.
Informative and engaging! This book was everything I hoped it would be and more!
We have all heard the stories of the last words spoken before someone is put to death. Usually, it was in cases of medieval beheadings, etc. But this book goes beyond that, taking into account different cases over history, and sharing the crimes, the verdicts, and the final walks of those convicted, giving us a more full story of the punishment - and the crime.
For true crime lovers, this is a great delve into different cases, horrendous murders, and those convicted. For historians, its a glance back into the past, and the immortal last words spoken by those condemned. Chris Wood went above and beyond the expectations I had for this book (even though I thought it sounded fabulous from the title, I was not sure how the content would be arranged), but it was easy to read, and the facts and cases keep you pulled in. Prepare for a book hangover, because once you start this book, you will not be able to put it down until you have finished the last sentence.
I absolutely loved this book! I want to thank Pen and Sword for an ARC copy of this book. The opinions above are my own.
I have always enjoyed reading about the Black Prince, and this book was no exception. I felt that we were shorted in his history, and this book just reaffirms that. I believe that we would have seen even greater things from him had he lived longer.
History lovers will LOVE this book! It is full of rich detail, easy to read, and breathes life back into the Edward, or as we refer to him, the Black Prince, giving us more on his relationship with the French King. Absolute must read! With their advantages and disadvantages on the battlefield, tactics play into this book, and for those who enjoy military history and the maneuvering of armies, this book will keep you glued to your seat.
I was not super familiar with the dogman stories, so these were quite interesting. I enjoyed them, and the rise of the hair on my arms a few times!
Scare Street has done it again! Oh my goodness! These stories were enough to send shivers down my arms more than once!
Get lost in some great horror short stories, and learn that the dark really does hold monsters.
Not my absolute favorite of his, but this one was well done. I enjoyed the story immensely.
1066 was truly the year that changed history in England, and this book takes a fresh look at the battles, giving the reader a deeper look into the campaigns.
With the tides turning, there is a lot of information that can easily feel overwhelming, but the authors take and break it down to where anyone, regardless of their knowledge of 1066 can understand and appreciate. If you appreciate history, and military maneuvers, then you are going to love this take on the campaigns that brought England a new king, and gave birth to a tapestry that is still talked about! Dive into the Bayeux Tapestry, the battles, and the men who fought the campaigns of 1066.
Perfect for a weekend read!
