I received this book for my honest review.
This is the third novel in the sacred series but can be read as a stand alone.
Emily is engaged to the love of her life Blake but slowly she realizes that Blake has been telling lies after lies. Then there's Blake's brother Tyler who immediately feels a connection to Emily and she feels it too.
Like the first novel, this one is also told in the point of views of Emily, Blake and Tyler.
For the moment Blake was introduced I didnt like him but the author did a good job with the character. Emily and Tyler were well developped and you want to root for them.
Since it
s a romance story, a love triangle had to be included. A lot of twist and it was an enjoyable read.
The author did a good job with this series. A great read for romance junkies.
I received this book for my honest review.
This is the first book in the scared series. It follows Jackson (who was introduced in Infinite fear). He has changed his wasy, works at his fahers shop, and got accepted at Brown, who also happens that his best friend Jade is going to.
He decides to suprise her but he gets to meet her roomate Maia. From the start they are both inrigued by each other. They both have past issues that makes it hard for them to trust and move forward.
This was an easy read. L
m not a big fan of romance book, but it was good book. I liked the concept of each Jackson and Maia having their own chapters and giving their point of views and seeing how much they damaged but they needed to break away and move forward.
Was well written, was interesting, just not my kind of genre.
3/5
I received this novella for my honest review.
This novella is the story of Jackson, a young adult who spends his time drinking, sleeping with almost every woman he meets. he wasn`t like that before, he had a girlfriend, Shana that he loved. She gets pregnant and they decide to terminate the pregnancy but changes her mind and disappears leaving him destroyed. He spends his nights sleeping around and drinking. We also get intorduced to Jade, his lesbian best friend and who is trying to get Jackson to change his ways and live a life with purpose.
One night he goes to a strupclub to hear his friend Jade play and meets Nina and makes him see life in a different light.
It was a good story, well written. The characters were developped. I felt that Jackson was a great character, you understood why he became that way and also he realized that there was more to life than drinking and partying his life away.
This coming of age book was fun, sexy and also intriguing to make you want to learn more about Jackson and what his life will become in the next book of the series Scared of beautiful. What I liked about this book is that It can be read before of in between the other two books.
Great read for the romance lovers.
This sequel to the Legend series picks up days after Day and June escaped the Republic. Day's brother John has been executed instead of him and his brother Eden is still a prisoner. Day is injured and they need help and for him to get better and rescue his little brother is to join the Patriots but the leader wants one thing in return : assassinate the new Elector Anden.
June has to go back to the Republic and insert herself to be close to Anden and execute their plan. The more she talk to him, the more she realizes that he's not as cruel as he seems or is it a trick?
Day is also confused about his feeling for June, who he has known for a month and Tess the one who has been by his side for years? Tess feels that he's putting his trust in the wrong person. How can he love someone he barely knows and who is responsible in part in his family's tragedy?
The sequel starts a little slow but picks up and the action and the suspense is right on point. The love triangle is well done and you do feel the hurt that both Day and June feel when their feelings are questioned. Does day love June or Tess? Is June in love with Day or her attraction to Anden is real or just a way to go back to being back to her old life, with money and security?
What about the Patriots leader Razor? Is he being truthful or or there something else he's not telling. Kaede who was in Legend is part of the Patriots but why?
There is a sad death and someone gets very bad news that surprised me.
Some questions are answered and more are not. The climax of the ending leaves you wanting more.
Great series, great book and the conclusion is all part of the third instalment : Champion.
4/5 stars!
In Iceland, Agnes is to be executed with Sigga and Fridrik for the murders of Natan and Petur in 1829.
She is to be moved to a farm owned by the District comissionner Jon, his wife Magret and their daughters Steina and Lauga. They are not happy with this decision since the murders were brutal and are afraid for thier lives.
The Reverend Toti is asked to be her spiritual guidance until her execution. Little bit little she tells her story growing up abandonned by her mother and never really having a real home or a family and her meeting with Natan, her employer and the love if her life.
Did she really murder him? Was she the leader who planned the murder? There is always two sides to a story. Rumors and half-truths flow around people's mouths, who is telling the thruh?
Steina is sure of her innoncence and the reverend is not sure of her being this cruel. The rest of the family especiall Lauga believes she is guilty but her telling her story might change some people's mind.
Such a beautiful book. The atmosphere of this book is dark but written in such a way that you just want to continue to read. As I was reading this book, I wanted to root for Agnes and that her execution wouls be overturned. There is no happy ending in this book.
The research that was done for this book, the clothing, the climate, the way of living was superb. You can see in a time when rumours start and they don't stop it damages one's life and sometimes there is no redemption
This first time histprical novel from Hannah Kent is in my opinion a 5 well deserved stars.
During a shootout 8 months ago, on a quiet night unindentifed men shot two people in a car, LAPD Scott james and his partner Staphanie. Scott is the only survivor and not only is he physically in pain but also mentally.
Maggie is a explosive tracker German shepherd in Afghanistan, lost her handler and herself got shot. She has a hard time connecting to people.
Scott notices her at the K-9 training facility and a unlikely partnership is discovered.
Scott still want to know who wanted to kill those two men that night and avenge his partner's death, him being shot and also the nightmares.
A very suspenful novel. The author did a great job with the characters. The connection between Scoot and Maggie was so well written, he took time to make them know each other. Emotional at times, anybody who is a dog lover will understand the bond you have when you choose your dog.
There is some funny parts but the action in this book is the star. This is a stand alone book but I wish this was a series.
Worth the read. This was my first time reading this author and will check out his other novels.
I give this book 5 stars!
Royal Theft
This is the sequel to Turning curse. Its not really a sequel since this one can be read as a stand-alone book since the author the major parts of the first one in this book.
Prince Alan still feels the humiliation and anger from his near wedding to Riona, decides to leave the castle and be a witness to the preparations of his brother Liam's wedding to Riona. She gives him a magic ball that he dead mother gave her and asks him to protect until his return to the wedding.
On his way, his carriage is highjacked by some thieves, lead by a manacing man named Brandon and includes Caden, a female named Robin. They rough up his guards, takes his clothes but takes the one important thing: the magic ball. Robin one of the thieves, needs his help, outnumbered he has no choice, he
ll do anything to get the ball back but has to fight his way to it.
There is some humour and action in this book. There wasnt much romance which is surprising since it
s a fairy tale like book. The characters were well detailed, the story well developed. I like the fact that it was in some ways a continuation from the first book instead on continuing with Liam this was all about Alan. We got to see a softer side to him that wasn`t there in Turning Curse.
Good book, there are many unanswered questions about some characters like Jordan, Caden, Brandon and what happens to Alan and Robin? I'm pretty sure a third will be coming soon that will explore more about them.
Entertaining, action-packed book
3.5/5 stars
This is a fairy tale story for young adults. Liam is a prank playing prince, whose only purpose is to have fun with his best friend Cordelia. and not take anything serious. His father is trying to make him marry and give him the throne but Liam is not interested. His father decides that time for play is over and annonces that he will marry Cordelia.
Liam is adamant that he will not marry especially Cordelia. Hurt and humilated, she curses him and the only way he can undo the curse is to feel the same way she did when he crushed her heart. He holds him captive in her room and her servant Gabrielle is to guard him so he cannot escape.
This is a very good story, well written. All the basics of a fairytale are present, princes, princesses, castle. The characters and the story are predictable, by midway, you basically know the ending but very entertaining.
3/5 stars
This one is a whole different feel than his other works. It was a fun light myster/humourous novel.
Zack Walker is control, paranoid freak and wanting to teach his wife a lesson in not leaving her purse wide open at the grocery store where someone can take it, decides to take it and hide the purse. he made the mistake of taking another womans purse and gets him in trouble, more than he could imagined.
Great novel, had fun reading this one and since it
s a series will read and see what else can happen to Zack Walker.
A beautiful christmas tale for children.
Thomas is transported right before christmas in the land of Sendmar where he meets Daniel. All the kids in the land do not believe in the spirit of christmas because of a witch cast a spell on them. They need someone who still believes to conquer and destroy the spell.
Lovely story with coloful illustrations. A short story with adventure and a message to make anybody smile.
This is the third book in the Mickey Bolitar series. Just like the first one, Mickey is trying to find the truth in the death of his father but this time he has to deal with what happened to his friends Spoon who got shot and is still in the hospital and telling the truth to Rachel about her mother`s death.
This time Ema his best friend is asking for help in finding her online ‘boyfriend' who has stop communicating all of a sudden not only that, the school bully Troy who got kicked out of the basketball team because of steroids is asking for his help in exonerate him. He still has to deal with his uncle Myron and his mother who is still in rehab.
Just like the other two books this is a fast paced book. A lot of action, the suspense is on point. Even though the story is serious, the teenagers in this books sometimes act mature but not too much, the kid inside comes out and the author did a very good job not to overdo it.
I like the fact that all three books are well connected, you can read this one on its own since he does recap the other two books in this one but I recommend reading all three to get a better understanding.
I love the ending but it left so many unanswered questions. I hope the author is thinking about writing another one to answer that is still lingering.
Great series not only for young adults but grownups too
4.5 stars.
Rhett is a foster child in a somewhat normal life. Hes a nerdy book loving blogger football player high school student, who hangs with his journalist girlfriend Beth and his best friend/bodyguard Xavier.
People are being accused of being witches and Rhett doesn
t believe that witches or warlocks even exist in real life. In just one night, the witches exact their revenge and in an instant Rhett lose his foster family, his girlfriend and best friend are abducted by a group of Necromancers. He is saved by his mysterious neighbor and is trained to become stronger so he can save his friends and avenge his family.
Travelling with his witch experiment dog Hex, he meets Laney and her traumatized little sister Trish; they seek the truth and also a way to survive.
First of all, I appreciated the fact that the main character Rhett was dark skinned and a nerd!
The plot was great, very imaginative and well written. The story was intriguing, witches, warlocks, necromancers, sirens, the all a purpose in the story without being confusing. A lot of action, the dialogue was well thought, serious and humorous mixed together wasnt over the top.
Each characters were intrigual in Rhett
s crusade, to Mr. Jackson who saved and trained him, Lainey, the tough teenager who is trying to protect her sister Trish who doesn't talk but with her gestures, gives message and who also has a secret and Hex, the dog who has magical powers because a witch experimented a little too much on him (wish my dog had magic!).
While reading this book, I felt it went very fast , was never bored and wanted to know more which the sequel Boil will be on my to read list.
Great book 4.5 stars.
What a great book!
The Langleys are going on vacation for a week so their neighbor Derek Cutter, who is their son`s Adam best friend decides to hide in the house so he can have a ‘Love nest' with his girlfriend. Unfortunately, Mrs. Langley is not feeling well and they come back a few hours later. Derek, afraid to be founf out, decides to hide until the coast is clear. Too bad for him, someone knoks on the door and kills the Langleys. Who wants them dead and why are the Cutters involved in this?
The suspense was right on. The story was moving at the right pace. A page turner!
This book is being told by two people from opposite sides: Day a wanted criminal and June, a prodigy being trained to become one of the best in the military.
There is a plague spreading in the poor section and day tries to steal some medicine for his family. Metias, Junes brother is part of the military who is trying to catch him but he gets muredred and the prime suspect is Day.
Bent on revenge, June will try anything to get Day but she doesn
t know the whole thruth and when she found out, will she be able to accept it?
I read that book so fast, the story was good. At first I really didn`t like the way June was written, but then something changed and I started to see her point of view. Day was a great character, sarcastic, strong and very loyal to his family.
It had a Hunger Games, Divergent fell to it, but since I loved both of those series, this one was on point.
4/5 stars
Mike Wingate was abandonned by his father at the age of four and has lived most of his youth in foster care. 30 years later, hes married, has a child and a company that is succesful. During a award ceremony he meets a dangerous man who might be linked to his past.
I thought it was an okay book, I found the story a little bit exagerated and sometimes boring. The revelation near the end didn
t do nothing for me. The basic of the story was good but it became too far-fetched and dissapointing.
This is the sequel to [b:No Time for Goodbye 1225261 No Time for Goodbye Linwood Barclay https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1182031065s/1225261.jpg 2906898] and it happens 7 years after. This time it's their daughter Grace who's in trouble. Claudia and Terry are on a break but even though tahy are not living together with what's happening to their daughter bring them into the story in separate directions that soon becomes connected together.Lots of twist, the suspense is on point. What a great continuation to the first one. 5 stars!
I received this book – The First from the author Lisa M. Green in exchange for my honest review.
The story starts in this village that is run by the Primaries – They decide how the villagers should live and think. As the years go by, people are dying and their biggest source of survival is the big tree who is slowly getting worse.
They cannot leave the village because their biggest threat are the Shadows lurking near. When one of them dies by the hands of the Shadows, in need of answers and provisions for the village, Corrine wants to explore outside and take the risk to save all of them. With her twin Mori, her mate Brahdon and the sister of the murdered villager Cyndene along with her, they march through the unknown and discover more than they bargained for.
The concept of the story was well built. Good writing from the author. The good vs evil was a great touch from her.
I did enjoy the book, the beginning was a little too slow for my taste but in overall it was good.
A great first book from the author.
I give it 3 stars.
I received this book – Damaged (Rebirth # 1) from the author Becca Vincenza in exchange for my honest review.
After 5 years being held captive, Audrey is rescued by a team that includes Stone. Instantly he feels a connection to her and feels he must protect her but being tortured for years, Audrey doesn't trust anybody and Stone will anything to make her trust him
This Paranormal romance has shape-shifters, sirens, feys and many more. Reading this novel made me think that this could easily be made into a movie. The characters were so well done that immediately you could imagine them while reading.
The story was so good that I wanted more! The interactions between the characters were believable, the writing was was excellent. The romance in this book well executed, not too much just perfect for the storyline.
Truly impressed, a very enjoyable read.
A great start for this series.
A big 4.5 stars!
This is my second book Ive read from this author. This was a beautiful book, To the stoty to the characters!
The story takes you away to strangea and intriguing place. it
s a story about life, love, friendship, family and it it told through a fantasy world full of colorful people.
Wish that there was a sequel to this one!
4.5 stars!
I didn't like or hate this book, l'm more in the middle. It's an interesting book about life, death, how when you're a teenager and you're trying to find your path.John Green is a great author, I adored [bc:The Fault in Our Stars 11870085 The Fault in Our Stars John Green https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1360206420s/11870085.jpg 16827462], I even cried but this one I felt it was very slow and I didn't feel any connections to the characters. Maybe l'm not a teenager anymore but they all seem to be a bunch of alcholics and not caring about consequences. It's a fast read, the message in the book is good but felt something was lacking.I give this book a 3 stars
This sequel takes place 18 months after the event that took place in the first of the series [bc:Relic 67035 Relic (Pendergast, #1) Douglas Preston https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1389576748s/67035.jpg 23046]. The same charaters are all there: Pendagast, d'Agosta, Margo Green and Bill Smithback. Two skeletons are found without their heads attached in Manhattan. d'Agosta is on the case and bring Margo Green help with the investigation. Since its a Pendagast series, he does show up but later on during the book. This book is a great follow up to the first one. In my opinion, you cannot read this one without starting at the beginning. All the characters were great but I felt that in this one Bill Smithback was lacking something, he was better written in the first and his story for this book was not that great. My negative point: there was too many new characters that didnt belong in the book, and it felt like they were added just to fill the story when it wasn`t necessary. The suspense was good, the twist near the end I didn't see that coming which is a good thing!A solid 4 stars for this one!
I received this book – Antancia (The Durand duology #1) from the author Wren Figueiro in exchange for my honest review.
This book is a paranormal romance for young adults and it is told trough the eyes of the main character Antacia Clark.
She's a college student, who has panic attacks, is very shy and doesn't has many friends and has been brought up by Nana, her adoptive grandmother. She was left to her care by her mother who disappeared and never heard from again. She meet Benjamin Althaus at a New Year's eve party and instantly their connection is undeniable. Not only she falls for him but finds out part of her heritage.
This book is good not great. I like the fact that it was Antancia who was talking about her life and what was happening.
I found it too slow and some parts were not all that interesting. I didn't get the wow factor reading the book until near the end when the suspense was present.
Will I read the second book? Yes, the way it ended, I still want to learn what happens.
I give this book a 3 stars.
