Creepy, funny thriller!
This is the second book of the Mickey Bolitar. It picks up a couple of days after the book [bc:Shelter 13595638 Shelter (Mickey Bolitar, #1) Harlan Coben https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1335917910s/13595638.jpg 14729522][a:Harlan Coben 24689 Harlan Coben https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1361316023p2/24689.jpg]. The main characters are there Mickey's uncle Myron, Mickey's friends Ema, Spoon and Rachel. Mickey is still looking for answers about his father's death but a shooting happens and one of his friend is the victim. Does it have to do with Mickey's family or is it something else? Also there's a movie superstar who's in town and has a connection to Mickey's family.I really enjoyed the book. Loved the characters, Mickey who has his problems with his mom in rehab and his anger towards his uncle about what happened in the past was well written. The relationship between him and Ema was my favorite part even though the've known each other a few weeks, they have this bond that we've had at some point in our lives. The action was good, not too violent since i't a YA book.I give this book a 4/5
This book is being told by two people from opposite sides: Day a wanted criminal and June, a prodigy being trained to become one of the best in the military.
There is a plague spreading in the poor section and day tries to steal some medicine for his family. Metias, Junes brother is part of the military who is trying to catch him but he gets muredred and the prime suspect is Day.
Bent on revenge, June will try anything to get Day but she doesn
t know the whole thruth and when she found out, will she be able to accept it?
I read that book so fast, the story was good. At first I really didn`t like the way June was written, but then something changed and I started to see her point of view. Day was a great character, sarcastic, strong and very loyal to his family.
It had a Hunger Games, Divergent fell to it, but since I loved both of those series, this one was on point.
4/5 stars
I actually enjoyed this book. It was my first time reading a Harlan Coben book and I wasn'r disappointed. A very fast read, great characters just wished the book was longer, there was more to tell and the way it ended I have to read book no. 2
I had to force myself to finish this book. The way it's written made it hard to understand or enjoy this book.
I enjoyed the book. I thought it was going to be just about Cecilia, the letter and the consequences of reading the letter but it was so much more. Other stories about two other women. Infidelity, revenge and twist at the end made it a great read.
L'm giving this book a three stars. I couldn't get into it until I passed half of it. The story is seen though the point of view of four characters. They are well developped, the story is interesting but since it's not a genre l'm not that really familair with and it took awhile to get my minset in the book. It's still a good fantasy book and will continue the series.
In Iceland, Agnes is to be executed with Sigga and Fridrik for the murders of Natan and Petur in 1829.
She is to be moved to a farm owned by the District comissionner Jon, his wife Magret and their daughters Steina and Lauga. They are not happy with this decision since the murders were brutal and are afraid for thier lives.
The Reverend Toti is asked to be her spiritual guidance until her execution. Little bit little she tells her story growing up abandonned by her mother and never really having a real home or a family and her meeting with Natan, her employer and the love if her life.
Did she really murder him? Was she the leader who planned the murder? There is always two sides to a story. Rumors and half-truths flow around people's mouths, who is telling the thruh?
Steina is sure of her innoncence and the reverend is not sure of her being this cruel. The rest of the family especiall Lauga believes she is guilty but her telling her story might change some people's mind.
Such a beautiful book. The atmosphere of this book is dark but written in such a way that you just want to continue to read. As I was reading this book, I wanted to root for Agnes and that her execution wouls be overturned. There is no happy ending in this book.
The research that was done for this book, the clothing, the climate, the way of living was superb. You can see in a time when rumours start and they don't stop it damages one's life and sometimes there is no redemption
This first time histprical novel from Hannah Kent is in my opinion a 5 well deserved stars.
This is a dark, beautiful, intriguing novel. Theo Decker is telling you through his life from the day his mother died tragically. His life goes trough mostly a dark path (drugs, alcohol). We do get sucked in each step of his life until he reaches adulthood. You see through his eyes in extraordinary detailed, the people, the scenery. At times, this book is depressing but you just keep on reading. A remarkable read.
This sequel to the Legend series picks up days after Day and June escaped the Republic. Day's brother John has been executed instead of him and his brother Eden is still a prisoner. Day is injured and they need help and for him to get better and rescue his little brother is to join the Patriots but the leader wants one thing in return : assassinate the new Elector Anden.
June has to go back to the Republic and insert herself to be close to Anden and execute their plan. The more she talk to him, the more she realizes that he's not as cruel as he seems or is it a trick?
Day is also confused about his feeling for June, who he has known for a month and Tess the one who has been by his side for years? Tess feels that he's putting his trust in the wrong person. How can he love someone he barely knows and who is responsible in part in his family's tragedy?
The sequel starts a little slow but picks up and the action and the suspense is right on point. The love triangle is well done and you do feel the hurt that both Day and June feel when their feelings are questioned. Does day love June or Tess? Is June in love with Day or her attraction to Anden is real or just a way to go back to being back to her old life, with money and security?
What about the Patriots leader Razor? Is he being truthful or or there something else he's not telling. Kaede who was in Legend is part of the Patriots but why?
There is a sad death and someone gets very bad news that surprised me.
Some questions are answered and more are not. The climax of the ending leaves you wanting more.
Great series, great book and the conclusion is all part of the third instalment : Champion.
4/5 stars!
Saw the movie a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. How can anybody want to burn book? Great story, makes you realize how some things are precious and not to words are important.
Great suspense supernatural book. Great cintinuation from the first book. Entertaining, funny. Odd Thomas is growing on me. Great character to have in a series.
I saw the first episode and was curious about the book. I really enjoyed the book. The plot was interesting.
A beautiful book about the love between a brother and sister and by making one choice, the circumtances than span for more than 50 years.
First I want to thank Simon and Shuster and also Goodreads for the opportunity of reading this novel.
Summer 1963, in Cayuga Springs, Mississippi, feisty 9-year-old Starla is living with Mamie, her strict grandmother, while her father is working in an oil rig and her mother is becoming a famous singer in Nashville.
Afraid of being sent to reform school for misbehaving, she decides to run away and go to Nashville and reunite with her famous mother, the singer she hasn't seen since she was 3. On her way she gets a lift by a black woman Eula and in a basket a baby.. who is white. Starla may be young but in 1963 a black woman and a white baby means trouble.
After Eula's husband Wallace cruelty and an unfortunate accident, Starla and Eula decide that they can only do one thing is to go straight to Nashville. This road trip becomes a life changing course for both of them.
This book into the world of segregation, Starla who is the narrator, we see through her eyes the innocence that and also her eye-opening truth that she never witnessed. It also delves into domestic violence between Eula and Wallace and the truth about her upbringing and the broken spirit that made her take a white baby and raise him even though she knew it was not the right decision.
Never been to Mississippi, the author takes you there, the roads to the colored not being served in restaurants, makes you realize the misery that they lived through. The characters were right on point, to the good (Miss Cyrena, Starla's father), to the bad (Mamie, The Jenkins).
This is a beautiful story about searching for a better life, love, friendship and what the meaning of having a family, bounded by love of not means. After reading the book,i got invested in the characters, I wanted more, where would the characters be after 10-20 years.
A touching book worth reading!
L'm giving this book a 3.5 stars. It was an okay book. Wasnt that suspenful as i thought it would be. The story was ok, the characters were not bad but I didn
t feel any like I learned anything about them in the story.I know there`s a 2nd book coming soon and I will read it, maybe it will be a little better.
The fight between good and evil is back again at Hogwart's. More action and suspense makes it a amazing book. This book was better than the first one. Wherever Harry Potter is at, trouble follow him but with the help Ron and Hermione and nothing can stop them. Having seen the movie first, I can say that yes the book is better but they did a pretty good job giving it life on the big screen.
How far will you go to keep what you think what you think it's yours?? That's what Megan Abboot writes in her book. Worth the read
I gave it a 3.5 stars. It was a good book, sometimes there were parts that I found that was a bit toolong. Some of the characters I didn't really care about, but overall it was a good read.
It was my first Neil Gaiman book. Great fiction/fantasy book about an 11 year old boy and his friendship with an 11 year old Lettie. Well written, I enjouyed it very much.
Really great thriller. While Claire is the main character, she is not likeable but it goes with the story. The story was well written, lots of twists. When you think you know what is going to happen, it's the opposite. Worth the read!
