Nice book about a great idea
The book is sometimes is a little bit hard to follow but otherwise a very nice read for a somewhat scientifically minded but not working in science person.
a great start for epic fantasy series. though i got an impression in the end that really not much happened in this book after all, and there was kind of too little progress of the main storyline despite the fact that all the time something new happens in the book.
Some reviewers compared the book to harry potter. i don't get it. i don't understand what is thinking a man who says that THIS is like harry potter. i've red both. harry potter is a children's book, while this is not!
Overall i highly recommend this to anyone interested in adult fantasy.
also Kvoth spend all his time with his friends and lots of other people who are not really human-like in the book. they feel more like just names. There could have been a lot more written about them so that the reader could feel that he knows them & feel some kind of affection towards them.
and as some of the other reviewers pointed out Kvoth is really a little bit supermanly :)
– A SMALL BIT OF SPOILER BELLOW THIS LINE –
i didn't really like the part with the draccus and stuff. it kind of seemed out of place and too impossible.
i guess this book is just a beginning of something really big :) a wonderful beginning :)
so i'm looking forward to reading the next volume next year. hope Brandon will manage to publish both memory of light and Stormlight Archive's next book during 2011 :)
and please don't kill Dalinar Kholin :D i like the guy
This is a shameless retelling of The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Do not read this garbage.
Stopped pretty early on. See for more details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hnq9IZe4Hi4
i'm just giving 3 stars (instead of 1-2) cause where was a certain grand action scene in the book and all the business with Althea & Lathea. also Nathan is as “dashing” as always and a total kickass!
