Oh my goodness! I loved seeing how Lockwood & Co dealt with the bad guy in this one. I loved seeing people starting to trust Lockwood & Co. There was plenty of action and ghosts and chosen family goodness. This was a wonderful ending that made me want to go back to the beginning and start reading them again.
This was so much better than I expected! I thought I knew where it was going, but I was wrong and I am so glad. The characters were all flawed, but they grew and worked to become better. The society around them was interesting and sometimes reflected our own. So there was even a touch of dystopian in the book. I am glad I stuck with this book because the characters and the plot went unexpected and delightful places.
Welly is the very best!! Also Lindsay has the very best recipes. There was lots of good spooky mysterious events for Lindsay and her crew to investigate. I did guess who it was, but I changed my mind in the middle because there was a really good red herring! Lindsay did make some assumptions about the teenagers that were questionable, but she learned from it and that reinforced what Leslie was saying. So I ended up really liking the way the school, students and teachers were portrayed. There was a part at the very end that surprised me and I didn't like it. But I have hope that there will be a larger story arc there, so it will be worthwhile,
I did not expect how the 3 storytellers came together to tell the story! The end was so full of emotion and made me ready for the next one in the series. The story was a little slow to start off with and I was a bit skeptical of how the 3 narrators would come together. However, I am so glad I kept going because the ending was so good!
The sister relationship is awesome. I loved the Bluebonnet Festival! It sounded like so much fun. The ‘Karen' incident made me chuckle. The mystery and the treasure hunt were well done and clever. So there was a lot of good things in this book.
The love triangle is not my favorite, so those parts of the book weren't my favorite. If you like a love triangle, you will like this. If you don't, you will enjoy the mysteries.
I'm glad Imani matured and changed throughout the book. She was really annoying at first, but she got better. I am not a fan of romance, so the romance/ love triangle was not a favorite part. I like the way we learn about the world as Imani is learning about it. Amira is my favorite! I was glad to see her being recognized as more than just a little sister.
The characters in this book are so real! They are making bad decisions and good decisions. They are pulling away from their people and depending on them. Each character is living a life that is realistic and it is very well done. It is hard to know who is the good one, the bad one, the naive one, etc.
Because of that, I was very interested Odessa solving that mystery. I was suspicious of a few people, so I couldn't nail down who it was until the end. And even while the killer is being revealed and captured, there were still character traits being revealed. This was a great mystery with great characters.
Laylee is such a fabulous character! And then Alice and Oliver show up to help. It is so wonderful to see them working together and see what they accomplish. I also love to see how they grow and face their own shortcomings.
The amount of creativity in the world building blows my mind. It is a feast for the senses!
This duology is a new favorite!
This book is beautiful and haunting with just enough camp. I, an adult woman, stopped reading more than once to emote while reading, Alice is a fabulous character and there is so much story to uncover. The ending is not perfect, but it is just so fitting. I like that the ending is a little more complicated than lots of other middle grade fiction.
This book is great for both kids and adults!
The world building and magic system were interesting. As Deka left her small town and ventured out, we discovered more and more about it. The pace of the revelations was well done. It ended in a good place, so the book feels complete, but it also feels like there is more to the story as well. My only complaint is that some of the messages of the text were a little heavy handed.
This really set up the story for the rest of the series! I don't trust anyone and really want to know what's going on. Lockwood and Co are finding out old secrets and saving people of course. But they also work with a few other people and I liked to see that. There was also more relational drama and that didn't get resolved, so I finished this audiobook and immediately checked out the next one!
Great sibling story! The setting of the lake is very easy to see and feel. This book really takes you away to the lake. The country life parts of the book were fun to read and I think could be interesting fire kids to read. The mystery is a little more simple than I expected, but I think kids will love it. This is a great summer book for kids.
This is a great cozy mystery! There was some cringy funny investigation. There is some past events for him to work past. The town of Crescent Cove and his cottage are just so cute! The ‘bad guy' was a surprise. I had figured out part o the reason why, but the who was a total surprise. The romance was well done also. It looked as if there was going to be a bit of a love quadrangle, but even at the beginning we clearly see the type of boyfriend they are, so it didn't feel like a real competition. I liked the way that worked out. My only tiny complaint, that will probably be fixed in book 2, is that he didn't spend enough time at the antique store.
