I had to read this book for my A.P. History I class. Everybody hated it, but I didn't think it was too horrible.
really liked most of it. but the end was .. too perfect. i guess mebbe that's how christian novels go :\ that's disappointing.
purchased this during my 3-week visit to cambodia. made me very, very sad :( this is only from a victim's perspective, however. i wish it shed more light on WHY things happened ..
I really liked Ethan and I also enjoyed when the author set up the environment since she was wonderfully descriptive. I hated Claire though - she's so damn selfish and self righteous. She knows what it's like for a family to be torn apart so why would she thoughtlessly have an affair with her son's BEST FRIEND'S dad? why take away Ethan's only friend? it was also hard to read about her interactions with Mark as she was infuriatingly mixed with her signals and then blamed Mark for her own dumb advances. at points I felt a strong inclination to just put the book down and stop reading because she aggravated me so much.
I liked Ethan but damn was that masturbation scene really necessary? It wasn't enough for him to prove he wasn't a kid anymore by the sheer quantity of knowledge he possesses about science and physics? Gross.
It was a surprise to find out that Mark did after all shake Ethan. I was rooting for him (probably because I hated Claire) but yeah, that sucks. I can appreciate that the book is realistic and accepting about the harsh reality of SBS.
4.5. Wholesome for a book about political intrigue. I really liked Maia, but I had a heck of a time trying to remember who was who, even with the cast list in the beginning. Csevet and the nohecharei were best boys (and gal).
I just couldn't get into this book, although I really wanted to since I absolutely adored Fault in our Stars. I practically hated both Pudge and Alaska - I found them both boring. Pudge had this neat personality trait where he enjoyed famous people's last words but he never really had any kind of interesting dialogue... or interesting thoughts, for that matter. He just thought about how hot Alaska was and counted the number of layers of clothes between him and the nearest girl. Alaska was this moody, super-sexualized cock-teasing bitch and does it make me a terrible person when I say that I didn't really care at all and also saw it coming when she died? Well, I guess, it is a John Green Book lol. Anyway, I can't count the number of times I felt uncomfortable about Pudge's overly fantastical description of Alaska's top straining against her breasts or the heat of Alaska's hand on Pudge's thigh. These moments literally made me stop reading and just stare at the book, thinking, “really?”
I did love the Colonel and his mother though. They were cool. The ending actually kinda made me think the book was okay, instead of absolutely hating it, since it showed that actually, and obviously, Pudge wasn't the only one affected by Alaska's presence. I found him incredibly self-centered, especially with what he did with Lara, so I felt better about Takumi leaving that last letter for Pudge to read.
i think this may have been my first audiobook ever - and what an experience! this audiobook was recommended as a must-listen for any fantasy fans, and steven pacey did an incredible job.
the characters are really interesting, and none of them are “good”, but they are all human and therefore nuanced. there are no two-dimensional characters here (at least among the main cast), and i loved it.
I think there may be something wrong with me because I always seem to fall into the trap of believing the pedophile, of sympathizing with them, of thinking that they're right when they say that they're not wrong, the rest of the world is. Man.
4.5. Struggled with the politics at first but I'm glad I stuck with it. Super enjoyed the ending.
I wish it wasn't ending! I like how things ended up with Phillip but not with Lee ..
i really liked the book. probably because of how it was translated into english & not actually .. written in english. makes a huge diff to me. :D
was really surprised by some scenes. like, “wtf??” surprised. but still. really liked it.
a bit slow at times, and written in a way that can be hard to connect with, but i still found myself getting attached to fitz and the world. i didn't really understand fitz's negative feelings towards Burrich as it seemed like Burrich was more of a father figure than Chade.
the galen days were pretty awful and i didn't understand how fitz could've just kept going lol, but i guess that was the point (galen was manipulating fitz without him realizing).
enjoyed it enough to actually immediately purchase 2 out of 3 of the collector's illustrated editions :)
nosy ❤️
can't wait to see where things go!
Amazing. This was truly an epic, and I can't wait to read the other books. So excited that the fourth book is out on my birthday!
Admittedly I wasn't super into it at first, as it really throws you into the fantasy world without explaining anything right away. You kinda just have to keep reading and hope things are explained eventually - which most are. But it also becomes clear that even the characters aren't sure why things are the way they are.
i loved the ending & how they met jesus. for some reason i totally did not see that coming. :)
I found the story line to be really interesting, but certain features of the author's writing style didn't sit quite right with me.
This was a sweet love story, and the first pick in Life's Library. Even though I had predicted what was going to happen, it didn't make it any easier to read once it finally happened. I found the text towards the end, after Miah's death, relatable due to my own personal life experience, and found everyone's reactions to be believable, human, and not contrived.
I loved the final book to this amazing series. I couldn't stop reading once it finally got to the trial. The ending was also very cute, but I'm a bit disappointed with who Blomkvist ended up with. I'm a blomkvist x salander shipper. :Db
great ending, but most of the book was a slog to get through. here's hoping #3 closes this trilogy out with a bang
Probably unfairly set my expectations high for Sanderson by starting with Way of Kings lol. By the time I started Mistborn I was kind of disappointed. I would've given it 3 stars if it wasn't for that ending.
- really obviously one of his earlier works, based off of the amateurish writing (especially compared to Way of Kings). Mistborn is his second book
- Vin's character seems to change really quickly. She falls right into her noble lady role with ease
- she is described as a thief but doesn't ever really steal anything???
- super typical that she should meet the city's most desirable bachelor her first night out and they just hit it off
- falls in love with him super fast... there weren't any scenes to show them falling for each other. It just happens
- was totally nonplussed after killing Shan: “at least some of it is noble blood. I got Shan pretty good.” Ok you 16 yr old former street urchin????
- Elend figures out Valette is skaa with no real explanation???
But...but what WERE they? And what WAS that ending? And what happens AFTER? And where did those missing crewmen go? And what were those weird comatose-like symptoms from? :(
