Couldn't get into it. Compliment the author for doing something experimental and unique. No insult towards the author in that regard. Just not my kind of book.
This has to be the worst thing that I ever read. The plot doesn't make sense. The villain is not believable to be the villain. It feels like the author wrote out left wing and feminist talking points into a list and tried to cover all of them. This backfired and ended up making a leftist utopia look like a hellscape. The ending didn't make any sense.
Rounded up from a 3.5 because its closer to a 4 than it is a 3 and I don't do half ratings.
Book fell off real fast. Nothing accomplished. Very predictable. Flowery language with no substance.
Having sexual assault to make your character's backstory more dark is not cool, especially this early on.
by far one of the poorly written things i have read. i do not understand why it is written in third person omniscience. that can be done, but it is very difficult, especially for a novel as short as this one. it is completely mismarketed and miscategorized. this is not a horror novel. it is more of a thriller, but even then, the pacing is very difficult to get through. there are sign posts for the twist that are too obvious and massive exposition dumps of lore done multiple times. i have no doubt that this author can write. but i expect a novel of this quality from a person starting off writing, not someone who is a published professional. i blame the editors and marketing for this. clearly, their gauges were off.
This book started off really strong and just fell apart. It is way too short for the social commentary it wanted to do and the social commentary featured in it is repeated multiple times to the point where it beats you over the head with it. I still lack to understand what the author was trying to say? Everything feels pointless. Characters are pointless. The monsters are pointless. Disappointing read. Overrated book.
Absolutely beautiful. I think the title change reflects the book better. This isnt about a girl names George but about a trans girl coming to terms with herself, finding people who accept her, and becoming the person she has always been on the inside: Melissa.
