I remember really really liking this whole series in elementary school so maybe I’ll read them again but for now I’ll rate them all a three and a half

I read this a lot in 5th grade and middle school. I remember this was my favorite book. It really took me to other places and it made me love reading more because before then when I visualized book as I read them it was never so vivid and clear. I finally got my hands on the sequel part way through middle school and I remember enjoying it too.

I really liked reading this. at first i picked it up and put it down a few times just thinking about continuing cause i wasn’t totally sure what was going on. but once i sat down and kept on it i really enjoyed myself. i liked the perspective it gave about mental illness and advocacy. i also enjoyed how everything came together well and not in a boring or forced way. also writing about two completely different settings even if one isnt there is really entertaining m.

i liked this and how it could totally be sold as a teen movie. i didnt like however what was happening to build into the second book. cause also when you move to the second one this setup feels a little weird since everything is getting even more fantastical. when before it was more heavily focused on the people and relationships and stuff for almost a whole book. not to say this isn’t good because it was nice to read but it just didn’t hold my attention

I actually really enjoyed this. even though what’s actually written about is pretty stomach churning it helped with the visuals a lot. the had a good amount of detail and different stories being told to pull together the characters designs and the main plot. i thought the themes behind everything were current. i also liked this because i’m interested in historical feeling stories that are complete fiction and this happened to really pull me in.

i really enjoyed this. i was a burn out walking in a haze in high school when i read this and not only did the plot feel pretty real to me but the writing did as well. it makes you really feel like you can hear the characters. this book also helped me a lot when about a month maybe after i read it my brother died. we were close as kids and saw eachother less as we got older partly because of unfavorable housing conditions. i think it would’ve taken me even harder at the time had i not been able to think about this book being fresh in my minds. just blurring that out for people who haven’t read yet lol. doesn’t really necessarily spoil anything but it lets you know by association. anyways. read if you like grimy real things and writing with a lot of character.
also sidebar for those who’ve read punkzilla, i actually read this one first and the two of them together totally helped with my brothers passing. i read the latter while i was going through it and both made me feel better in different ways tho i feel with the abrupt nature of under the wolf, under the dog, it more closely resembles losing someone already on a ledge to a car crash and fire. i hope to read more soon when i can get my hands on some.

there’s a lot in here that feel unexpected but is also pretty realistic in what is meeting strangers and hitchhiking as a kid. the work didn’t all monsters but it’s not all good people either. and not everyone who’d like to lend out a hand can do so properly. i read this a while ago so not everything is fresh in my mind but i recommend if you like letter/journal style writing and honestly even if that’s not what you normally read (like myself) still try it out.

i enjoyed this book quite a bit. it wasn’t my first adam rapp book and just as the others i’ve read the writing feels pretty real. like you’d think that with all these books the plot and the characters wouldn’t come through, but they really hit for me even time.
