Good well-rounded characters, excellent CP atmosphere, ok story... but my god the countless useless words, the endless long winding phrases going nowhere, the (sooo many) useless pages... the boredom!

Pulp level, terribly clumsy dialogue-introduced infodumps, no original ideas, Hamilton clone.

The main story is not bad at all, but there are so many (large) filler parts and filler words and unnecessary (not that original) worldbuilding that I got bored. Not impressed, not gonna read the sequels.

Magică și o scriitură (și atmosferă) absolut unică (nimic similar la alți autori), dar pentru mine prea lentă - și nu simt că am rămas cu nimic din citirea ei.

did not enjoy this book: not because it would be badly written - it is quite well-written - but because I expected and looked for fantasy and got historical fiction (with Vikings and Saxons under different names). So, highly recommended to Last Kingdom fans, but not to (high) fantasy ones.

Excellent worldbuilding, very good writing, original concepts (though rather fantasy disguised as scifi and space opera as milScifi) good characters, mediocre intrigues and twists, way too long for its story (should have been 1/3 shorter)

I felt Dickinson was great, Pinsker good and Davis goodish. The rest i did not like and many felt like ordinary scifi from the 30s-40s. Military, though? Not really, maybe less than 20%.

Unfortunately this feels so dated (written in 1989, but feels like 60s space opera) that i got bored and dnf.

Very well written, but too YA for my taste (especially in characters)

Highly recommended to Malazan fans. I am not one of them, though. So, great worldbuilding, complex plot, flat characters and good writing, but really really boring for me. Honestly, I had much higher expectations.

very entertaining as military fiction (plenty of shooting around). very superficial as a scifi.
