I really find Margaret Atwood to be an phenomenal writer when it comes to the way she builds scenes and the details she includes, but I think for this story in particular, it didn’t stick the landing for me. We had some building of the world, but for the most part, it remained an unsolved mystery. I didn’t even realize I was nearing the end of the book because I was listening to it and then all of a sudden it’s just over just as I was feeling like we were finally getting to the climax of a story where we would discover something and we just didn’t. This was probably intentional, but I don’t know if it worked for me.

a story about a broken woman who embodies a misogynist like mentality towards men, she is terrible, gritty, nasty, and down right TERRIFYING. this book is so interesting, i want to look away but i cant, i have to watch the train wreck.

i loved everything about the actual dragon plot. the fantasy part of the story was the best part. the romance was iffy for me, i loved xaden and his personality but i think violet was a lil down silly at a certain parts. i’m not normally not into smut so i asked my mom if this had smut, she said no. it definitely does lol. surprised i was into the military aspects as well! liked it enough to try the sequel

The beginning was so very rough for me but it picked up midway. I’d say plot is this writers strong suit but I still find the “spicy” sections of this book unbearable (although seems to have less sex than the first one, which I appreciate) and the dialogue can be cringey. It’s definitely like a silly, fun turn off your brain read.

my second read of this, I tried to keep what I remembered from last time in mind while reading this through. it's a book about meaninglessness and freedom and it a way made me feel more free. it's pretty matter of fact and sometimes a bit funny how ood the main character is
