Quiet, beautiful, and powerful. I'll admit that at first the flowery prose was difficult for me to get into, but as the book went on it pulled me in until I was half holding my breath as I read the last few chapters. A really fascinating dive into a team and community.
Incredibly informative and very interesting, although a bit thick to get through at times. It grew on me as I read.
Not enough Hercule Poirot! But overall an interesting case with a satisfying conclusion.
Solid story with a cast of characters small enough that it was easy to keep track, plus there were some delightful bits with Hastings and Bob the dog.
One of the more interesting Poirot mysteries! And a sprinkle of “Papa Poirot” in there as well, which I always love
My first time reading any of the Mary Poppins books and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I went in with a good understanding of P.L. Travers after reading Valerie Lawson's “Mary Poppins, She Wrote” and I think that made me appreciate this book more than I expected, considering I was reading it for the first time as an adult. There's something oddly satisfying about how curt and sharp-tongued Mary Poppins is. And the stories are really delightful, with a few that also made me a little sad (like “John and Barbara's Story,” oh my gosh).
Bonus points to Sophie Thompson, for one of the best and most energetic audiobook narrations I've ever heard! I felt like a kid hearing bedtime stories!
An interesting story and case with a good amount of Poirot. I thought I'd guessed the ending but was wrong, which is always fun! Dragged a little in the middle but picked up at the end.
Absolutely delightful, funny, and inspiring. I already loved Dwayne Johnson but this gave me even more of an appreciation for his work, his journey, and him as a person. And the book made me laugh out loud a few times! (I think the only thing I really disagreed with was the bashing of 2017's Baywatch, because I really like that movie!)
Some very beautiful lines and also some that made me feel like I am very, very old compared to the author. Overall, though, there were a lot of ideas and emotions that really resonated with me and that I could connect to, which is what I was hoping for.
A really fantastic follow-up to the intense And the Rest is History; understated but interesting with an amazing third act. Couldn't put it down!
More fantastical adventures, more of Mary Poppins being kind of a jerk. Fabulous narration by Sophie Thompson, as usual!
It took me a long time to really get into this book, and I almost DNF'd a few times. The prose was so thick that at times it felt like wading through mud, and honestly I found most of the story depressing, but overall there was a quiet, haunting beauty that made it worth it (I think).
Moving, funny, touching, and at times infuriating. The characters are all so well-written that they almost jump off the page. The story was interesting and well-paced. The audiobook narration by Miranda Raison was the icing on the cake!
Fascinating and clearly very well-researched! I knew nothing about Elinor Glyn going into this book and now feel a strong fondness and respect for her story and her accomplishments.
This book was fine, and had some nice plot points, but I just never fully connected with it. I found the main character to be somewhat unlikeable and the vast volume of Silicon-Valley-tech-jargon-startup-speak got very boring, very quickly. Some of the characters were great and the story was kind of compelling, but I found myself wanting to just finish this book so I could read something else.
Very good, but my least favorite TJR title I've read. Part of it is that I'm really not interested in tennis, which is on me and not the book. But I also felt like it lacked some of the emotional depth I expect from TJR's books. Glad I read/listened though!
I bought this book for $5.95 from Strand back in 2013 and it has sat on my shelf since then. Depressing as some of it was, I'm glad to have finally read it!
I was excited to read this (after thinking about buying it for months and then finally picking it up), but I just didn't connect to it in any way that I'd expected. The art is adorable and expressive and everything looks really beautiful, but overall I felt that it fell kind of flat.
A lovely bit of fluff! Heartwarming and sweet. I loved seeing how the needed technology would fit into the time and place of the book; very clever!
