Very insightful! Enjoyed everything the writer had to say. I do think the book might be lacking the general idea.
This book was a gift from a friend and it is in my definitely part of my top list! So beautifully written, it made my heart break. I loved how this story gives Patroclus a voice. I've been thinking that this book is the “Heartstopper” of Greek mythology. Even though it is based on a genre of ancient folklore and the dialogues are a bit far from modern, it is very light reading and enjoyable. I know that for people that have read the Iliad, some characters might've not been portrayed equally. But I feel like the idea of the writer was to show the vulnerability that emanates from them accepting their feelings. I would 100% recommend it!
Incredible novel about identity, prejudice, racial injustice and looking for what we think we deserve. This felt for me like that famous question “would you prefer to be poor but happy, or rich but sad?”.
I keep reading these stories about strangers becoming family and I love it. I like exploring the good in humans. This book was hug!
“Just because somebody sees, hears, or feels something other folks can't, doesn't mean they're crazy. My grandma used to say, ‘A blind man doesn't call us crazy for seeing.'” What a mind blowing way to take a reader through a generational journey. The depiction of pain, identity and belonging, while dealing with racial trauma, left me in awe. Humans are... the worst. Another great debut novel!
