Three stars is Not that I didn't like the book. It made me think about many things. Self-knowledge. Insight into others' personalities. Some people's complete lack of self knowledge. High school. How my experience was much different. Lack of detail in my memories. Remembering how vulnerable and open about myself I was with people online that may have not been who I thought they were. The “gayness” of this book...it did distract me. I don't understand it. I never will. I don't hate, I just don't agree with the practice. Can't wholeheartedly recommend this one to my circles.
Interesting twist on the Cinderella story. I enjoyed the futuristic bent! The story took a while to get off the ground, as do many new series. The amount of closure at the end was just enough to frustrate you and encourage further reading of the Lunar Chronicles. Time to go search out the next book!
I got this book with some Scholastic points I had saved. Since I'm new to teaching 6th grade this year, I ordered a bunch of books at that level.
As the dust jacket flap says, Jordan Johnston is average. In fact, the only things she think she's good at are babysitting and gardening. There are clues throughout the book that lead the reader to the climax and (in my opinion) short resolution.
This would be fun for a read-aloud, mostly due to its length.
I am glad I saw Felicia Day read and review this book, because it was a great departure from all the technical books I've been reading lately. I didn't stay up till 2 am to finish it like she did, but once I got through all the background info it picked up nicely. Thankful for a book that has no vampires! If you like fantasy/mystery with a side order of romance these are for you. :)
It was interesting reading the dated references to hypertext and electronic appointment books because I read the majority of this book on my iPhone! I can talk to my phone and tell it to make appointments, set reminders, and record my favorite shows. Even since the 2002 revision, it's amazing to see how much technology has advanced. There are plenty of examples of bad design even as time marches on, but as another reviewer mentioned, it's going to be hard for me to go throughout life and not think about the way things are designed now.
I'd really like to believe this story, I really would. Unfortunately, I will always have that sneaking doubt that it isn't true. I just don't know how to react; I enjoyed the experience of reading the book. Did it change my life? No, only Jesus and his Word can do that for me. If true, this is an awesome testimony.
