When the dead need to talk, Alex Craft is always ready to listen… As a Grave Witch, Alex solves murders by raising the dead—an ability that comes at a cost, and after her last few cases, that cost is compounding. But her magic isn’t the only thing causing havoc in her life. While she’s always been on friendly terms with Death himself, things have recently become a whole lot more close and personal. Then there’s her sometime partner, agent Falin Andrews, who is under the glamour of the Winter Queen. To top everything off, her best friend has been forever changed by her time spent captive in Faerie. But the personal takes a backseat to the professional when a string of suicides occur in Nekros City and Alex is hired to investigate. The shades have no memory of the days leading up to their brutal endings, so despite the very public apparent suicides, this is murder. But what kind of magic can overcome the human will to survive? And why do the shades lack the memory of their deaths? Searching for the answer might mean Alex won’t have a life to remember at all…

Alex has been hired to investigate a suicide. The wife refuses to believe that her husband would kill himself. The police won't open the case because there were too many witnesses for it to be anything other than suicide. But, the police can't see the ghost of the suicide victim, but Alex can. The case should be simple, raise the shade and the shade will clear things up. Nothing is ever simple for Alex, so of course the shade can't remember. More apparent suicides pop up, their shades with no memories, which means more business for Alex. These books are so good! I can't wait to read more.

I loved this one!!! Falin has such an interesting role. But seriously Alex, move on. He is kind of bound, yeah? And the whole ghoul thing was... freaky. And Death. ::sigh:: He is awesome. I love him. He is sexy, he risks all kinds of things for Alex, including his own soul. He just rocks. And they finally have more than a few awkward glances at each other! There was so much growth in this book, world building was there, I feel like I can tell that KP is getting better with each book.
Looking forward to the next one.
