I normally stay away from books which have cults in them because I end up not liking them almost all the time. The only exception to this was [b:The Last Housewife 59349100 The Last Housewife Ashley Winstead https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1649778403l/59349100.SY75.jpg 93510806] and this one. So you obviously know I recommend this. From the multiple chapters, I wasn't that interested in the before chapters (since they were solely based on the cult), but rather the aftermath of it and what was going on currently. Not many twists in the book because you know what is going on most of the time. I am not really sure what to think of the ending because that was totally unexpected I probably should've seen it coming but I didn't. And that caught me off guard.I'll definitely be picking up more books from this author. the main reason being, I keep seeing sooo many tiktoks of her books and I get major fomo so ill definitely be reading to see what the hype is all about:)
This book wasn't as good as the first one in the series, I took this up expecting the same but I wasn't satisfied.
I noticed a few things wrong and I will list them out;
Okay let's start at the beginning where Jack made the call to Becca's mom shouldn't he use a office phone or something without the deceased's phone?
Number 2 I felt like the signs of who committed the murders were pretty clear since all they had to do was investigate the professors and they would have been much closer to finding the perp.
Number 3 Amber was so ignorant,I was soo annoyed by her
With that being said I feel like other than the stuff I said above the book was pretty good, but obviously not as good as the first one, the author could have written it better I feel and I would have given a 4 star rating if the book had gone through another round of editing..
This is my first book by [a:Colleen Hoover 5430144 Colleen Hoover https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1464032240p2/5430144.jpg] and I was pleasantly , because someone who is soo good at writing romance novels has written this insanely good thriller! Haven't read any of her other books tho but hope to read soon! You need to go into the book knowing as lil as possible. But I suggest you look up the TW's first and then proceed coz the book is soo dark and twisted!I was so scared that I might not like the book coz of all the hype it was getting but it didn't disappoint! Also it did help that I went into the book with zero expectations. It started off really well, I liked how fast paced the story was but everything started going wrong after Lowen started falling for Jeremy if you read the book you know what it is.Some of the things in Verity's autobiography were so dark and twisted that I had to stop reading and just stare at the wall trying to process what I had just read.[a:Colleen Hoover 5430144 Colleen Hoover https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1464032240p2/5430144.jpg] did a really good job at keeping me so invested and engrossed in the book because toward the end of the book it was filled with so much tension and suspense that I raced through it.Also that ending?! All I could say was WTF!!!!
I LOVED [b:The Guest List 51933429 The Guest List Lucy Foley https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1580194251l/51933429.SY75.jpg 73094861] so I was kinda excited for this but sadly it was so disappointing!75% in I was convinced it was a 5 star or at least 4.5 star coz I was really enjoying the story, really enjoying the characters and the last 15% RUINED THE BOOK:((((The book had soo much potential to be a fav; An isolated setting ✔️ Winter setting ✔️ A murder to solve ✔️ Multiple povs ✔️but didn't like it:( Giving it a 3 star coz I did enjoy the book just not the last 15%.Also dis took me a week to read...whyyy??????????If you have read a book this is a different ending which I think might have been better but then again this is only my opinion soooo... OK so remember that guy Miranda was with while she was drunk at a party while they were in college? I think they were in the pool room or something? What if that guy was Iain and he was Emma's brother or something and they had somehow hatched a plan to lure Miranda and the others their so they could kill Miranda. And what if the motive for that was coz Miranda had forgotten abt being with him and he thought they had something special. I hope this makes sense....:)
4.25“I have a theory. Hating someone feels disturbingly similar to being in love with them.”Wow another one of those books that def lived up to its hype!! Didn't expect to love it this much.“The trick is to find that one person who can give it back as good as they can take it.”Reasons you need to read this:)-Set in a publishing house(haven't read any like this, and it was amazing!)-Grumpy sunshine trope-Lives up to all its hype-The arguments between Josh and Lucy were soo hilarious half the time!!-I was putting this off for a long time coz I thought that this would be a slow burn and over hyped but that is not the case at all so if that was the reason u were putting this off don't hesitate to start this! The reason I didn't give it a full five stars I feel like half the time the book was spent describing how tiny Lucy was! NOBODY NEEDS THAT! other than this no complaints:)My fav part of the book was when Lucy told off Josh's father, if I was faced with that situ I would have hidden under the table lol.. Like they say short but feisty:)Did you know that the epilogue to this is in [a:Sally Thorne 18002228 Sally Thorne https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1526286936p2/18002228.jpg]'s other book [b:99 Percent Mine 36300625 99 Percent Mine Sally Thorne https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1532485978l/36300625.SX50.jpg 52353841]?...check it out:) I am glad that the book is this hyped coz it deserves all that attention!Cant wait for the movie!!
I picked this one up coz many people were saying that it had a lovely sister dynamic, but I didn't see any of that. All I saw was Ayoola bossing Korede and Korede just blindly obeying her.
Frankly, I was so annoyed throughout most of the book that I almost dnf'ed it, but I kept waiting for something to happen so that I could change my mind but nothing did.
I loved the short chapters coz it was so easy to get thru but I wish the book was longer.
And because the sister was the serial killer, we didn't see most of the action happening, if we had a pov from the sister as well I feel like the book would have been a whole lot better.
We did get flashbacks of the things which happened in the past which led to why Ayoola acted the way she did.
But this book was just NOT for me.
This made me question tho, how far would you go to save someone you love?
I love the book and the rest of the books in the series almost done with em,
Love all the characters too especially Richard, Fern and Reese.... The only thing that bothers me is how Annabelle cant keep her head out of a mystery she always says Im not gonna bother with it but keeps on poking her head in it.
In my opinion I think that the series can be made better if there are no mysteries to solve but instead something like a diary of a wedding planner or something similar and their days of planning weddings and stuff with the characters and all, because I kept on reading the books because I loved the characters and the way they acted.
3.5
The first half was soo creepy and spooky and I couldn't even read it at night but the second half on the other hand felt were boring and repetitive.
WOW TALK ABOUT INTENSE!
The full time ur reading the book ur heart is like a roller coaster going up and coming down, zigzagging,I felt like I was holding my breath this entire book.
Looking for a short yet suspenseful book that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time while managing to make ur heart race? Then this is the perfect book for u:)
OMG! was all I could think and say at the end of this book....the story was well rounded up and I was so emotional at the end of the book. I read a spoiler of this book coz I accidentally read the 1st book of the Amber Monroe series so I had a feeling about ‘that murderous act that rocked Jade to the core' that was told in the blurb but when that part came I was in shock.
It didn't matter that I had read about the spoiler before but when that part came it did shock me immensely.
Also I didn't have high hopes going into the book coz the last 2 books were kinda repetitive but this one made up for the whole series.
It was very suspenseful and I was literally on my toes wondering what was to come next.
Highly recommend it. But please don't read the Amber Monroe series before you read this one ...coz it contains major spoilers.
I was so sad for Jade and Amber coz they loved their dad,but wasn't jade smart enough to know that the call that came was a prank call?!!! I thought she should know better than that being a cop for so many years.
I would have given the book a five star rating but I am not a huge fan of Jade...
Excited to see what the other series brings tho.
3.5
This is not like the other CoHo books I've read, in this we get various messed up characters who have secrets that they don't want anyone knowing. And the book shows us how nobody is perfect and how everyone is different from each other.
Honestly during the first 45% (roughly) I thought I might dnf it coz it took almost an entire chapter to describe the house(which was a church b4) and I wasn't interested in knowing abt it. But after the 50% mark it got really interesting coz all the characters flaws and secrets were getting revealed bit by bit and it got so drama filled.
I was getting annoyed with the mc Merit during the first few chapters but after a while I got used to her and she didn't bother me anymore.
Also during the last few chapters there were some scenes that were so funny and I kid you not it was abt 2:30AM and I was trying so hard not to make a noise by laughing coz it was that funny.
But aside from that the book deals with some dark topics and I really appreciated how it was dealt, it was very chaotic yes, but at the same time done properly. (Not listing the triggers here coz it might spoil the book, but dm me if you want to know them:)
I don't think this is a romance(coz the romance in this was on the side and the book was more focused on Merit and her family), more like a character study.
If you are looking for a very messing, chaotic book filled with very flawed characters this book is perfect for u:)
This book is going to live in my head rent free for a VERY long time.
Evelyn Hugo is a character that I don't think I will ever be able to forget about and at times while reading I had to stop and remind myself that this is a work of fiction coz she felt like a real person. I felt like I was really reading someones biography and wow I don't think I can describe the feeling I got while reading the book, coz it is THAT good.
Also the way her life intersects with Monique's is both tragic and very heartbreaking and I would have never seen it coming.
Fav character is HARRY CAMERON!!! He's probably one of my fav characters of all time,LOVE him so much!!
PLEASE READ IT!! I guarantee you wont be disappointed.
3.5 star round upI think I like this better than the girl in the train. It was really slow at the beginning and it was so hard to actually get into the story but around halfway through the book it started getting really interesting. Also [a:Paula Hawkins 1063732 Paula Hawkins https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1492111911p2/1063732.jpg] delivered these little surprises/shockers here and there throughout the book which shocked me quite a bit. But like after the interesting parts it became sooo slow once again but I wanted to keep going to find out what the big mystery was at the end.But then the ending came and I was so disappointed like it was 400 pages and this?! I kinda saw the ending coming so I wasn't too surprised by it. Even though I didn't have high hopes in the beginning of the book I started getting high hopes around the middle after all those little twists and I was so disappointed! I seriously need to stop getting my expectations high for books coz I end up hating the book or not being satisfied.I forgot to mention this before but there were sooo many characters in the book to keep track of that I had to keep going to the front page where they had explained about the characters to keep track of who and who.So overall these are my thoughts on the book. I feel like those little twits kinda made up for the ending.. But I feel like if the ending had been different I would have given it a five star definitely!
The book was pretty okay I was rather intrigued because of the psychic in it.But I feel like the author should have revealed the killers at the ending or middle of the book so we would have been more surprised, also the ending I feel like [a:C.M. Sutter 15627642 C.M. Sutter https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1626052929p2/15627642.jpg] threw in the ending there like she was in a hurry to finish the book.If the ending was a bit different I would have definitely given it a higher rating....But I have to say I loved the holiday element in the story, it was also a very quick and fast read.
4.25
I was almost gonna dnf this while reading the first few chapters but when Baz entered the scene I COULDN'T STOP READING!!! Just kept flipping pages coz it suddenly became so interesting. The chemistry between Baz and Simon is SOOO cuteeeee and I have prob reread their cute moments abt 5 or 6 times each lol
Lovee the book and the main characters!!!(except Agatha)
Read it!!!!!
Fav quotes.
1)”It's going to be okay.” Baz wraps both arms around him. “It's all right, love.”Everything is starting to make sense.”2)“Simon Snow is still going to die kissing me.Just not today.”3)“You were the sun, and I was crashing into you.”4)“It's the good things that hurt when you're missing them.”5)“He's not a monster. He's just a villain. He's not a villain. He's just a boy. I'm kissing a boy. I'm kissing Baz.”6)“And sometimes holes want to get bigger, but Baz was wrong—sometimes they just want to be filled.”7)“I am going to die kissing Simon Snow. Aleister Crowley, I'm living a charmed life.”8)“Just when you think you're having a scene without Simon, he drops in to remind you that everyone else is a supporting character in his catastrophe.”9)“I was eleven years old, and I'd lost my mother, and my soul, and the Crucible gave me you.”10)“I let myself slip away... Just to stay sane. Just to get through it. And when I felt myself slipping too far, I held on to the one thing I'm always sure of - Blue eyes. Bronze curls. The fact that Simon Snow is the most powerful magician alive. That nothing can hurt him, not even me. That Simon Snow is alive. And I'm hopelessly in love with him.”

Oh wow. I am flabbergasted. Didn't expect to love this book so much.
I picked it up on a whim from the library because the synopsis sounded so interesting. But I didn't expect to love the book so much and connect to the characters.
It started off as a slow burn mystery and somewhere along the halfway point it turned into smthg else entirely. When I mean slow burn I mean SLOWW (it took me a week to read the 1st half, but I read the 2nd half in less than a day lol) but after the halfway point secrets started getting revealed and it became so much more interesting.
I loved the characters so much(except for that one person) and the setting of the book is amazing, specially if you are a book lover(our mc is a bookseller) coz its filled with books, talks about loving books, how books impact our lives, etc
Highly recommend this if you want a good book that will keep you guessing till d very end!
“You find out who your real friends are when stuff like this happens.”
Finished this a few weeks ago and I have no thoughts on it. I don't hate it and at the same time, I don't love it. It's such a complicated feeling coz whenever I think of the book my mind goes completely blank.
So giving this a neutral rating.
Halfway through I wanted to stop, but at the same time, I wanted to see who the killer was.
Ans even though the reveal was kind of unexpected it wasn't a ‘wow' factor.
3.5 star round up
This was not like any other book I have read and I really enjoyed it!
This one had female serial killers and yes u read that right KILLERS.(not one,not two but three)
The plot was written in such a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
If I didn't have any studies I would have prob finished it in one sitting.
It was soo well written, but the only prob I had was with the coffee, every page you turn its coffee, coffee, coffee don't get me wrong, I loovee coffee but this was just too much.
Another thing was I was so sad that Dean had to die coz he did nothing wrong, the only thing he did was look after his wife and daughters and he ended up getting killed for no reason at all.Well that's all about the book
I am on a C.M. Sutter book binge right now and I am enjoying every moment of it!
One of the most underwhelming books for the year:( I didn't get what I was expecting. And I didn't like the twist. It so not what I was expecting. One thing though the mc in this book who is an unreliable narrator isn't like any of the other unreliable narrators I have read(Rachel from [b:The Girl on the Train 22557272 The Girl on the Train Paula Hawkins https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1574805682l/22557272.SX50.jpg 41107568], Camille from [b:Sharp Objects 18045891 Sharp Objects Gillian Flynn https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1475695315l/18045891.SY75.jpg 3801], etc) Anna was actually likable most of the time. Even though it is slow paced the chapters are very short so it was very easy to get through:) I don't like that a child was the 'twist' I hate when books do that, ik irl there are ppl like this but I didn't like the idea of him being the big twist behind the entire book:( Also the part about ed and Olivia being dead that was so sad. But I guess in a way it was Anna's fault for cheating when I read this she became a bit unlikable.
