This is SO creepy!! I was reading this in the night and had to stop coz it was creeping the shit out of me. And every time I was close to falling asleep, I saw the shadows in my room out of the corner of my eye and I was wide awake again. I am not even kidding this happened throughout the entire night and I got only about 3 hrs of sleep lol.
This was so well written and it felt like watching a movie or smthg which made it that much more creepy!
It felt like a 5 star until the part where it explained how these stuff was caused and that made me lower my rating to a 4.5 star coz that reason was; unexpected? yes, but very underwhelming.
But other than this it was overall an amazing read and highly recommend!
If anyone has any recs for similar books please lmk coz I am craving more space horror:) TIA!
4.5
I've stopped reading synopsis in thrillers, coz I have found out that the more I go into the book blind the more I enjoy it. So, when starting this one I didn't know that it was gonna be them on an island running from the locals, I thought they were going to be vacationing on an island
Give another round of applause for the one and only....[a:Colleen Hoover 5430144 Colleen Hoover https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1464032240p2/5430144.jpg]!! This one might be my fav by her!! While reading those last few chapters I stopped to take a break and realized that my cheeks and neck were wet and I thought I was sweating....nahh turns out those were tears, uk the silent cry? yes tears were pouring down my cheeks and I didn't even know it, I was so invested in the book! Also do you know that feeling after a good cry where you are too numb and exhausted to cry more or even think abt anything and you just sit there staring at nothing? Yep that's exactly how I felt after finishing the book. Before starting it have about 10 boxes of tissues prepared just in case:)Even though I got annoyed with Kenna... Coho has this way, even though u are not a fan of the characters she has this way of making you feel their pain which is honestly amazing. You get the meaning of the cover and title of the book after ur done and I love it when authors do that! Also even though this is a romance you get more of family dynamics while reading it and I loved itKenna's pain is reflected through the writing SO WELL. And you can just feel it. Her daughter was so sweet too, I loved all the scenes with her(made me cry, laugh)Ledger is one of my fav, hes kind, sweet, caring, good with kids....What more can you ask?Can we talk abt those side characters tho? Roman and Lady Diana? I LOVE THEM!!! I wish we got scenes with them!!I picked this up while I was sick and I finished it in a day...made me forget that I was sick and it was a welcome break♥️Anyway I think I said ‘Love/loved it' abt a 100 times in this review...but please pick it up!! Comes out on 18/01/2022!!Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for the e-arc:)
This book was just meh and boringgg
I was reading this book for more than 2 MONTHS(yes u read that right 2 MONTHS!)
And the plot and characters were also soo boring, I literally read this book at night if I couldn't sleep and wanted to coz this actually helped me sleep lol.
Other than that I also realized that I am not a huge fan of cult thrillers so maybe that was also a reason as to why I didn't enjoy the book:(
This was a book that I thought would be 5⭐ because the first half was sooo good and I was just sailing thru it, but the last half. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED.
The writing def made the last half easy to read coz it was so easy and flowy.
My fav characters from the book were Rachel,Darcy and Sonny:)
Also this didn't feel like a thriller more like women's fiction with a side of mystery.
Read this if you love;
-Family drama
-Women's fiction which addresses a lot of important topics such as kleptomania and domestic abuse.
-Big little lies
-Interesting and unique characters
TW: Rape, physical and emotional abuse, and kleptomania.
My fav character died, so after that it was just whats the point in continuing.
This is squid game in a book, but squid game was a million times better:))
3.25
I was very disappointed with this one coz I have heard so many great things about Lucinda Berry, I went into it expecting to love it but all I got was a meh feeling. The book felt so rushed that towards the end I didn't feel like we had got all the answers we needed. But I did like the fact that we got to know more about autism and I learnt a lot more about it.
Some quotes I liked.
1) "A mothers rejection cuts to the core. Its impossible not to feel her grief."2)"Nobody knows the insides of a woman like her daughter"3)"You should worry about the kids who never want to be at home"4)"When you're a kid, you feel things when they're wrong. Everything goes by your feelings because you don't really understand all the stuff going on around you."
Now here's a book that is more than 4 stars! Like all other Freida McFadden books I got through this in a day. So fast paced, thrilling and i enjoyed reading it.
3.25
I am very conflicted with the rating I want to give this coz there were some parts I liked and some parts I didn't.
It started off with a bang and I was really invested at first like imagine having to wake up every morning and you don't remember anything that happened in the past 2 years of your life....a very chilling thought. So I was really interested in seeing how everything was gonna happen. But then I kept getting so annoyed with Liv, coz with every opportunity she had to get to know what happened to her she either ran away or she did something so idiotic that messed everything up because if I was in the same situation as her I would do anything and everything to try and find out what was happening to me.
Some parts were so repetitive and I knew what Liv was gonna do even before she did it because she just kept making the same mistake over and over again.
Also the ending, the thing that actually happened; I saw it coming abt a 100 pages before it was actually revealed and I didn't think the story would go there but it did and that was also very underwhelming.
With that being said what I really enjoyed in the book was the perspectives we got from the detectives. I wish we had more books with them because it was fun and interesting to follow along the case with them.
Slow at first but towards the end it was so hard to put down.It has short chapters that will help you fly through the book, gets really creepy at times and has the spooky inherited house trope.Highly recommend this!!Now onto [b:The Family Remains 58855185 The Family Remains (The Family Upstairs, #2) Lisa Jewell https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1636568994l/58855185.SY75.jpg 90282275]!!
This was very interesting to read, I feel like with the technology we have today, someday there might be an actual version of matchyourdna.com.
Read this if you love
-multiple povs( I think it was 5 characters if im not mistaken)
-VERY short chapters(this was a 400+ page book but it was so easy to fly thru it coz of the short chapters)
-Cliffhanger endings on abt 3/4 of chapters and since we followed each character in order I was just flipping pages trying to find out what happened to each character.
-Characters with dark secrets
-Black mirror-esque (I couldn't continue the full series after the 1 ep. The 1 ep of black mirror scarred me for life, but I saw many ppl saying it was similar so thought I shud mention it)
I loved how the book showed us the dangers of online dating, coz who knows what ppl hide.
At times the book did feel a bit slow/boring coz we had been following the same characters lives and it felt like the same thing being repeated over and over again but other than this I really enjoyed reading it:)
If you asked me to pick a favorite “match” couple, its Nick's one no doubt abt that. The last para in the last chap with him left a HUUGEE smile on my face!!
Trigger Warnings ⚠️
Violence, death, illness, miscarriage.
NO rating coz idk wtf just happened, soo confused by the ending, after finishing it I literally went and read all the spoiler reviews on gr coz i was so confused. Maybe I might understand it after a reread in a few months
3.5 star“You can't love someone if you're afraid of them,”So I finished this about a week ago and I have no idea what to rate it but I feel like it would be within 3 to 4 stars.I think this is an unpopular opinion but I like [b:The Maidens 45300567 The Maidens Alex Michaelides https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1608557750l/45300567.SY75.jpg 70020242] more than the [b:The Silent Patient 40097951 The Silent Patient Alex Michaelides https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1582759969l/40097951.SX50.jpg 59752778] and it's prob coz I had zero expectations for this, but for the [b:The Silent Patient 40097951 The Silent Patient Alex Michaelides https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1582759969l/40097951.SX50.jpg 59752778] my expectations were so high which is prob why I was so disappointed. So if you are thinking of picking this one up, or any hyped book for that matter go into it with no expectations and you might end up loving it.I must say tho I guessed the killer about halfway into the book and brushed it off coz it didn't seem possible but that didn't spoil the book for me.So here are a few things I loved in the book;1) The setting (I LOVED), was set in Cambridge in a Gothic atmosphere and it was described so well, I felt like I was watching a movie. And coz I'm jobless I did a bit of research on Cambridge and it is the 2nd oldest uni in the English speaking world!! What?! Also, I added it to my never-ending bucket list of the places I want to visit someday.2) Short chapters (it was so easy to read)3) Dual povs.4) Flashbacks to the past5) The silent patient references ( I love it when an author does that)6) The psychological aspect of it. ([a:Alex Michaelides 17621440 Alex Michaelides https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1526317750p2/17621440.jpg] knows what he is talking abt)7) Greek mythology- ever since I read Percy Jackson a few years ago I have been OBSESSED with Greek and Roman mythology, so much so that I wanted to do it for my ALs but my parents advised me against it.lolAs always every book has stuff I don't like too, here are some of them;1) Marianna2) Marianna 3) You guessed it- Marianna (she was so persistent to the point where it became so annoying) I think everyone who has read the book will prob agree with me about this.4) The book is called ‘The Maidens' but most of the plot was focused on Marianna I wish we had gone into depth about the maidens.5) I wish [a:Alex Michaelides 17621440 Alex Michaelides https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1526317750p2/17621440.jpg] had focused more on Edward Fosca too coz he seemed like an interesting character.6) I wasn't too satisfied by the ending.7) too many unwanted characters.I listened to a dark academia playlist while reading this and the experience was surreal!!This is one book I will be rereading in the future!
A very unique and interesting concept but poorly executed.
It started off strong and really intriguing but as the book went on and as Ivy started digging through her family's secrets it became very annoying and repetitive. Also I HATED how Ivy was too trusting with strangers, I mean a serial killer is on the loose for chrissakes and she goes into a motel room with a stranger she met a few days prior.
It was assumed that Tatum's mom was a victim of the full moon killer and all the evidence to back that was very weak and almost non existent.
The author threw in various plots and it all ended up clashing in the end (not in a good way).
And in the end you end up confused with more questions than answers.
I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.I have read other books by [a:Blake Pierce 14773558 Blake Pierce https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1484064043p2/14773558.jpg] and I loved all of them, so I went into this book expecting the same but I was really disappointed.First off I felt like the author was in a hurry to finish the book so the full thing felt hurried.Secondly the ending, I feel like it should have been more spaced since I felt like Rachel got the murderer by just guessing who it was.But overall the book was pretty okay. And I cant wait for the next one to see what Rachel would do next! The reason I gave a 3 star rating is for the reasons above and I noticed quite a bit of grammatical errors but if the book had gone through another round of editing I would have definitely given a higher rating.
Loved the book!!!
Halfway through the book I stopped and was thinking of the various possibilities of what could have happened but I never thought of the one that had really happened....
4.5WOWWW!! JUST WOWWThis may be in one of the top 10 thrillers that I have read for this year!! OMGG, AGAIN, WOWWFirst 3 quarter of the book was so slow that I almost considered dnfing(no joke) but then since I had a few more chapters to go decided to continue and im so glad I did!! That twist is insane(I guessed it a few pages before but it didnt spoil it for me)It also gives you a glimpse into a killers mind which was kinda interesting.I think [a:Peter Swanson 3314351 Peter Swanson https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] made the book so slow just for that huge twist and I love it. again so glad I read it and highly recommend!! Cant wait to read more books by him:)
4.5
I have so much to say about this but at the same time im speechless.
Here are my thoughts for now;
-It had so many relatable characters and I feel like everyone who reads this book will be able to relate to at least one part in it(even a teeny tiny one).
-Soo many good quotes!( I am someone who LOVES relatable quotes in books and this had soo many!
-Towards the end I felt my emotions go up and down, then back up again, then down and wow I cried a bit too.
-The reason its not a full 5 stars is coz I start getting engrossed in the story only after the first half, before that the book felt like a 3 star but that's the only prob I have LOVED the rest of it.
My fav characters are Ro and Estelle:))
I loved the book and the twist at the end was out of this world
If you love stories about twins and big plot twists this book is for you.
I finished the book in about 3 hrs... Highly recommend it!!
Reread: I think I rate this book a 4 star now that I have reread it some parts were a bit far fetched but I really enjoyed the story! The big plot twist that i said previously doesn't seem like a big twist now but it maybe coz I already knew what was coming.
The book felt like a 3 star but then towards the last few chapters there were some letters and those letters made me bump my 3 stars to a 3.75. The letters also almost made me cry coz they were so raw.
I loved how this book shows that life/love is complicated and sometimes there are simply no right choices.
Also I was enjoying it until abt the half mark point and then I realized that some scenes were familiar and it was coz the rest of the parts in the book felt like the same scenes repeated over and over and over just in different ways...get what I mean? and it became soo boring which was why the book was feeling like a 3 star.
What I didn't expect was to relate to Gus, right down to the vomit phobia lol. I got so annoyed coz all January did was vomit.(Get drunk she vomits, happy, she vomits, smthg bad happens she vomits, eats a pretzel or smthg she vomits) and in these parts I just had to skip coz I hate the talk of it.(even while writing this review I am trying not to think abt what im writing coz like I said I hate the word and everything to do with it.)
Also I saw in many reviews that said the book was dark which was why I bought the physical copy in the first place but it wasn't as dark as I was expecting.
So idk if my review makes sense
4.5 star round upAdam and Amelia are a married couple who won a weekend getaway to a converted chapel at Blackwater Loch in Scotland. They use this getaway to try and save their rocky marriage, but they both have ideas of their own of how this weekend is going to end. This is the first book I read by [a:Alice Feeney 15904689 Alice Feeney https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1484753445p2/15904689.jpg] and it was so good! After reading this I wanted to go and read every book she has ever written coz this one was just out of this world. The story was told from multiple povs so it was very easy to get the plot. The writing in d book?-Amazing, easy to read, very short chapters(this is another reason the book got a high rating, it was so easy to get through it coz of the short chapters). The characters?Insane,f**d upThe plot? Phenomenal, I am someone who always tries to guess the twists in books(a bad habit of mine) but I did not see the twists coming in this AT ALL.The setting in this book was also perfect, snowstorms, a converted chapel with its own graveyard, and a creepy intruder. What more can you ask? When the first twist came my mouth made a perfect O and it stayed like that for a good 5 mins lol(my brother saw me and he was like “You look like u have seen a ghost”)And there wasn't just one twist there were multiple twists towards the end of the book. After I was done I went back and reread a few parts and everything made perfect sense. I will stop here coz I feel like if I give away too much about the book I will end up spoiling it(I think I have already said too much) but pick this up if you love a good thriller with a creepy setting, a snowstorm, and a creepy intruder.
3.5
“But she knew what the problem was with her mother's heart: it was broken.”
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this coz I wasn't a huge fan of one of us is lying, but this one was just amazing!!!
It wasn't suspenseful or anything just really interesting!!
The ending was so sad but at the same time weirdly happy too.
Loved the chapters which alternated between the past and present, loved the multiple povs.
Overall a really enjoyable read.
