This is a masterpiece of a Christmas story, and you were robbing yourself of the perfect experience if you do not listen to the audiobook done by Tim Curry.
One of my all time favorite books and will forever hold a special place in my heart as the book that got me to love reading again.
Robert Louis Stevenson was definitely not handling being gay and into drugs in the victorian era very well
a spine chilling novel that made me feel as if i was as exhausted and beaten down as the characters! wonderfully creepy depictions of the creatures and the utter indifference and cruelty of nature
Just as good as the first, just as fun and entertaining with further world building
i really enjoyed the lack of a plot twist and love the message of living your life instead of surviving it
It took me a really long time to get around to reading this book every time I put it down just because the movies are such an amazing adaptation that ever time I tried reading it I felt like I was reading the extended extended edition with some not as good plot points such as Tom bombadill, the Gardner, and the fact that Arwen was basically not in the book at all.
But I did find myself really enjoying it after the fellowship was formed because I then got enthralled with the characters Im already in love with and getting to read more about their history and reading new dialogue.
That being said if you want to read something that completely sucks you into a new world this is a great read but overall I completely understand why so many people who aren't already fans of the films have a hard time reading these books.
I'm also glad your mom died.
I've been a fan of iCarly since I was a kid, and Sam has always been my favorite character. I now realize it was probably because I related to her ADHD tendencies and anger issues, thanks, dad... so when I found this book, I had to read it immediately because it had been so long since I had heard anything about Jennette McCurdy. Now, after reading this, I understand why and I respect the fact that she got herself help and stepped away from acting.
This book is such an eye-opener for someone who had grown-up, idolizing child stars, especially when it came to my favorite, children's shows, such as iCarly and Hannah Montana. To now as an adult hear how much pain and suffering Jeanette and others went through as a child, for our entertainment makes me sick. At age 12 I would've given anything to be them. I like to think that type of thing doesn't happen as often in Hollywood anymore but who am I kidding?
I'm so grateful that I get to live in a time where books like this can exist, with dark humor, pure openness, and intensely honesty. I think this book will do so much good in terms of helping others come to realize that your parents aren't always as perfect as you think they are as a child.
“If you're always aiming for perfection you won't make anything at all.”
just an incredible dive into the creative process and the waves of success and failure.
we all know this book is FULL of red flags, and they we're very fun to tab and roll my eyes at. but the best part of the book was Stephanie calling herself out on how much the plot of this entire book doesn't work as a compelling story. she explains for a full page how no one would care the read about Juliet being sad about romeo leaving and settling for paris... THATS THE WHOLE PLOT OF THIS BOOK! except for the last few chapters which are the only parts of the this book that were fun to read... still not good but fun.
i hate both jacob and bella (and edward but besides leaving he doesn't do much in this book). but jacob and bella have page after page of no fucking boundaries and constant misconceptions and miscommunication. jacob thinks bella will love him despite her repeated telling him she won't and bella keeps leading him on knowing that he thinks she'll change her mind about him.
i just hate it and i needed way more scenes of bella and alice because i think a sapphic version of twilight is actually what i need to be reading to cure me, any ao3 recommendations are greatly appreciated
Honestly, I don't think I've ever gone back and read the last few chapters from when I read these as a kid.
I was thinking about this book for months after reading it in class but I haven't thought of it much since
One of the absolute best dystopian novels and an absolute cultural phenomenon and a classic
read this cause I want to read every book i own and i needed something i could quickly finish
i hated every character except jason and david, and david is hardly in this.
Catherine is pretty damn intolerable, but i understand her frustration at times because her parents are the worst. kristi was by far my least favorite character, she never once talked to catherine about anything that wasn't about herself, felt no need to understand david or even ask questions, and was just genuinely awful.
