Surprisingly... This book was VERY good. It didn't push for “just do it” strategy and recognized that is is not the problem. If we could just do it we would, it is a dumb advice. I'm naturally talented procrastinator. Maybe I know the most of the simple techniques that don't work or work unreliably. Yeah, yeah... just make a prioritized to do list of what you need to do and stick to it, that's a common one. But this book delves way more deeper and offers solutions from completely different point of view. Plan leisure time first! And be dedicated to that leisure time. That's one example.
Very balanced book throughout with good information. Highly recommended if you have troubles to start, continue of finish your projects or if you are feeling drained, exhausted, anxious and having too little time for all the work you need to do. Or if you just feel that more balance in your work-play time is needed. Also good if some people in your private life or work are procrastinators, there was whole chapter on that topic.
So.... just read it. :P
Hard to comment. Topic of this book doesn't bother me - I'm white in very white country. Yes, enjoying the white privilege. And while the book offered the much needed perspective on racial injustice (so there is pay-gap, important info), I am not convinced about all the arguments used. The childhood experience of parents not providing something, something being one. Show me one person where parents gave everything needed, black or not. Too personal, too little science/data. But as the topic was quite new for me, book gave some important insight. Loved British point of view, too many times topics like this are America-centric.
Even though I rated “only” 4 stars, this is one of the must read books. The book itself isn't that great as the topic is important. After reading this you won't be able to look at another scandal across all the WWW the same. Ins and outs of how scandals are crated, why and how there is basically no protection against it. Book tries to be optimistic on a note of “knowledge might help” but this book has been published in 2012, that was before fake news epidemic. I think humanity is doomed because we love scandals way too much.
Why did I pick up this book? Idk! I was not thinking clearly and didn't google properly. War is huge trigger, I don't enjoy politics in my books, so only school time period was the part I liked. Then I soon understood that probably this is not for me.
Whoa! That was interesting! We sleep so much (but mostly not enough) but still there is a lack of general knowledge about sleep. Ok, sure, we now that “sleep is important”, but hey, then the exams come and it is not as important. Or that party. Or that project which really needs finishing. Or...
It was shocking to learn how dangerous is driving when feeling sleepy. And impact of sleep on memory! And the myth that old people don't need as much sleep is just a myth. Fascinating stuff. Not really much of practical help, even though decent amount of tips included, more on general knowledge about different aspects of sleep.
