Normally I would do a little summary of the book but I jumped in it without knowing anything and I think it is a good way to dive in .
I really liked this book for so many reasons. First the plot is original for a book, it mixes sciences and supernatural things, the plot of it was so interesting partly because it something that could be real in some extend and it talks about something that real people are interested about. With that characters have a real depth, they are not too many that mingles together. They each have a proper story that we learn about. Finally I loved the back and forth between past and present, we learned things bits by bits and I love to make theories as I am reading.
I clearly recommend it, there is suspense and a real depth to this book.
Maggie is a young girl returned to her small hometown due to tragic events. She is now working in a small hotel. One day as she is doing her work she walks in on an handsome man naked. She quickly escapes with shame but their paths are to meet again.
Well... I love the Wild Heir which is part of this serie too but this one.. I didn't hate it though. The story just didn't stick with me for no exact reason, half way through it I just wanted it to end ! It was to long for me, there is two part to this book and divide it into two distinct book would have been a good idea.
It's not really a furnished review but like I said the story didn't stick with me.
these comics are modern version of buffy and her adventures.
As a big fan of Buffy when I saw that a comic was a made, and it was a kind of modern rewriting I could only read it, I am sucker for those kind of things. And I was not disappointed ! The art is great, I like the color range used and the drawings are great, we clearly recognize the characters, even their little flaws are greatly done on paper. The stories are really buffyverse, it is some things that we could find in episodes of the original series. Characters are quite to their original selves to me, maybe not Willow, her clothe style is really different from the series but it's not out of place either. See all those character in an environment I am familiar with, like with internet, cell phones was really great.
Alex is struggling to write his sci fi novel since a few years now. But things change when he decides to write romance novels. The success is immediate and more are to follow for the delight of fans. But Alex is hiding under a feminine pen name and when he starts dating, without knowing it at first, one of is alter ego online best friends things are getting complicated.
I LOVED this book. to this day it's my favorite book of the year. The characters, especially Mia are relatable. She is a shy and funny bookworm. Thanks to the double points of view we easily get attached to them. Their story is just what every romance reader want. The double identity of Alex creates suspense and kept me hooked all along the book. Both narrator were really good. And this ending is just everything that I could dream of for this book.
this book is the first instalment in a trilogy about the Medici family. In this first book we follow Cosimo. As his father dies he becomes the patriarche of the family, following his father steps into alliances, revenge and wars.
I read this book because I watched the show with Richard Madden, I loved the show. This book is really interesting, it provides an historical background quite accurate. The book is made of several point of views giving the reader a new view and elements on the story. There is suspense and love, the florentine background provides something more for me, all thos elements makes it a good book. The main negative point for me is that because of course the story of the Medici takes place on several decades, their story is not concentrated, we jump from year to year and it makes the story chopped rather than a whole and single elements for me. Of course the author couldn,'t change that because it' s history
Alessia is a young immigrant from Albania struggling to make ends meets as a cleaning lady for rich british people. Including the handsome Maxim...
Well.. I really struggle to make up my mind on a not for this book. It was not completely bad, a good half of it was quite good, I was not transported but it was not bad. but once I was at 70% of the book I was sure it was the end of it, but no... and here is my biggest problem with this book : there is too much stuff going on in the 30% of it ! some events keep happening several times and it really bothered me, the last 30% were unnecessary to me. I didn't really feel so much sympathy or anything for the characters and I think that's why the last chunk was boring to me. But I still chose to give it 3 star for the first 70% of it that I liked. Unfortunately it was a miss for me.
Douglas takes us in prison to interrogate 4 murderers. We first learn about their stories, criminal history, we then have an insight in Douglas' interrogations.
Couple of months ago I read mindhunter and I really liked it, so I pick this one after and I am not disappointed. First it was well written and organised, making it clear of the reader. I liked the fact that we first have the criminal's story before the interviews, it gives us insight on what is in their minds and Douglas points out elements that can explain the behaviours. The element that I really loved was that Douglas explains why he asks a question and what the answer reveals about the killer, it helps the reader really understand things. Finally the links with other stories and murderers is also really helpful and interesting.
A bonus goes to the audiobook edition on scribd for the little interview of the author by Jonathan Groff the narrator.
the second book in the story of Lara Jean. I really liked this book, it was fun and cute. We meet John Ambrose McLaren and learn more about the story of Genevieve and Lara Jean. The first hundred pages of the book were a little slow for me, but the book is well written and easy to read so I got through it. After that, when Lara Jean receive the letter from John for me the story really begins. In this book we also see a glimpse of her father's story which is also very interesting. the introduction of new characters help the story to not get boring, we learn a lot about the past which is really interesting. It was full of cuteness and I really loved it.
this memoir is the story of a woman that found love in Italy and lost it. It talks about grief, how to the best parent you can while grieving, it is about moving on and saying goodbye to loved ones through different manners.
This book was really a treasure. I listened to it on audio book and really loved. The story touched me really deeply. My family on my mother's side is italian and in so much instance it reminded me of the story of my grandparents. We go back and forth between the past : the beginning of the story of Tembi and Saro. And the present : how Tembi and her daughter grief both in their own way in Italy. It made me smile, laugh and cry. This book felt real to me because it talks about good and bad stuff, about grieving, parenting and being a caretaker for someone you love. Tembi's voice is so soothing, it is a real pleasure to listen to her. The way she describes Italian landscape and food is really impressive, you like you are there, like you taste what she is tasting. When you stop you just wish to be in Italy eating all the delicious dishes she talks about.
Magnus is the heir to the Norwegian throne, and this time he fucked up bigger time than usual. His parents give him an ultimatum : if he wants to be king one day he must make up for his mistake and get a new perfect public image. In other words he must get married to another blue blood princess of Europe. He chooses Isabella, princess of Liechtenstein, as it seems completely surreal to do such a thing when he doesn't even know any of the princesses and didn't think about getting married before. She is not thrilled by this marriage of conveniences when she has so much other plans for her life. But Magnus is clearly more and more interested and decided to make things work between them...
Currently in Norway for my studies I just had to pick it up and, boy I did not regret it ! This book is just what I needed and didn't know I needed. A story about a marriage of convenience can just not work but Karina Halle just blew my mind with this book. The story has just the perfect pace : not too fast but not too slow to the point you are just praying for something to happen.
Magnus is sexy, funny and romantic in his own way, the prince you crave for ! Isabella is just smart enough not to be a miss know it all or completely stupid. She also has the right balance between innocence and sexyness, she is not the young virgin waiting for the perfect man in her life.
The whole story is just a perfect balance between sexy parts that are not thrown in too soon, romantic parts “escalating” as they start to know each other. The characters are funny without being goofy.
I just wished the plot twist of the story was a little sooner in the story but it was not so bothering neither. Just a book with a perfect balance to make it short !
this book was my first Tessa Dare and I was really excited about it, every romance lover recommend her. But it was a miss for me... let me explain :
Elinora is an intelligent young woman who decided to dedicate her life to her work of author. After Lord Dashwood, a childhood friend and crush, left without notice after the death of her brother she decided to pour her frustration, anger and sadness in a pretty vigorous pamphlet : Lord Ashwood Missed Out. The success is immediate and she is now a known author. As she must leave to read her pamphlet in a library in Spindle Cove her carriage left early because of the coming storm and she found herself in an other carriage with Lord Dashwood. She is not the only one angry anymore : indeed Lord Dashwood's reputation suffered from this pamphlet and he is now curious to know what he missed out...
Like I said at the beginning of this review it was a miss for me, not everything is bad and I will for sure read more of Tessa Dare. Let's begin with what bothered me to later end on a sweeter note. the first thing I didn't like were the cringy lines... some lines were cringy and really out of nowhere, not a single soul would say such things today or before in time.. It was a mix of awkwardness and laugh.
Then I think that the history of the relation of the characters was more developed. I know it is a novella but several times they talk about the death of Elinora's brother, clearly a difficult moment for both of them, hanging beyond their head as a dark cloud, but not at any moment the accident is told, no memories of them together, younger are told neither and I think I would have cared more if it was done.
The last thing I wish was done differently are the characters from previous book of the series involved in this novella : like I said I didn't read previous books in this series. So first of all I don't really care about them, second they don't push the story forward and third it doesn't seems like a lot of things happen to them, so was it really necessary to put them there ? Like I said they don't push the story forward, those scene are not necessary, it could have been used to deepen the characters of Elinora and Dashwood.
But let's move one to what I liked : the plot was interesting and quite well done. I like stories with characters that already know each other : it's more realistic and for me it opens doors for really romantic and nostalgic scenes that I am a sucker for ! Interactions between the characters were, mostly, cute and funny. And last it was easy to listen to, no reading slumps in the middle of it.
So even if there was elements that I didn't like over all this was not a bad book, I am sure that if I read more of T.D I will find something that I like more.
