If you loved Red, White & Royal Blue and have trouble moving on from that, this is a nice follow up. Not as good as RWRB and a clear knock off (white prince, dark skinned prime minister although his heritage is never explained, a necklace of importance, the waterloo vase makes an appearance.)
I really liked it.
It only gets better! Glad this is vol. 1 and we get hopefully a lot more on the Price family. Loved this one as much as I loved Pucking Around. The temptation to just pick that one up again and do a total reread, when I've just finished it is serious. Can't wait for Pucking Wild, the next book in the series.
2nd read: God I love these books and I can't wait for Volume 2.
If I could give it more then 5 stars I would. Totally loved this book, I went through it so fast, too fast because I didn't want it to end. Loved the building of relationships. The learning how to be a made family, the banter. Thank God I still have the Pucking Ever After sequel to give me more of Rachel, Jake, Caleb and Ilmari. These books will leave me with the biggest book hangover ever. For now this is my most favorite book of the year and it will be very hard to beat.
2nd read: Read this series right after finishing it the first time because could not leave it yet, I wanted to stay in this universe a little longer And I loved it again, so much. I normally am not a re-reader, but darn if this book has a grip on me. I can't wait for the audiobook, which I will probably listen more then once too. This will probably become an annual reread/listen for me.
Keeping mind this was one of the very first books Nora Roberts has written, this was a bit of a rapey book. The hero forced himself on the heroin on several occasions, kissing her against her will. He treated her like trash. To be honest I could not feel much sympathy for the hero. I think I will have to try some later books of her, the romantic thrillers because the romance books so far aren't doing it for me, but then most I've listened to so far are books from the beginning of her writing career.
Loved the Legacy books. If you listen to this story in audio, be sure to listen to the very end as there is an interview between J.R. Ward and the narrator who reads all the BDB books Jim Frangione. And can I say how wonderful Jim's work on the BDB books is. I can't imagine anyone else voicing all these characters. There where a few months between reading the last BDB book and this one and it felt like coming home as soon as I heard his voice reading the first few sentences. Sigh....
Giving it a 2 maybe 2.5 stars. I accidently listened to this book instead of book 8, which I will be listening too next, although right now I'm about tired of this series, as I've been listening to the last 5 books back to back as I found it dragging, put speed on 2.40 even just to get through it. Also I so didn't like the Heroine, in the end I just wanted to slap some sense in her. This series isn't as good as Virgin River. As others have said, barely any romance in this book until past half the book.
