I picked this book up because I collect rubber ducks, expecting a meme of a book and a few laughs. What I wasn’t expecting was a full fledged LitRPG story with diverse characters, well done tropes, and a solid (albeit silly) storyline. If you’re looking for a chill time reading about a rubber duck dungeon, then this story is for you.
Fated mates, monster/demon romance, and love at first sight are all terms I would use to describe this book. I read it in a day, after hitting a massive reading slump out of nowhere. Books like this seem to break slumps, or at least this one did for me. So props given! Smooth read, I enjoyed my time.
This book seems like it’s be good for middle schoolers or high schoolers, but I (as an adult) still found the book enjoyable. Without spoiling anything, the book follows an unusual monster on their journey to become an adventurer. Along the way they learn more about the world, leaving some great life lessons learned along the way.
This book did make me tear up, but mostly because of how cute it is. I love Shrubley. This book has earned its place upon on my physical book shelf, which is a very rare occurrence.
Alert: This book ends on a cliffhanger! Be ready with the second book (which isn’t out at the time of this review), or skip over all together if you hate cliffhangers.
I came into this book with expectations on the ground, since this is a smutty book and those typically don’t focus on the plot. This one did! Not enough information was given, but the quick flow of the story had me okay with that (until the ending). I finished this book in two sittings and it kept me enthralled the entire way through despite its downsides.
I recommend this book if you enjoy reverse harems and paranormal fantasy.
This book is inthralling, witty, lighthearted, and most of all: fun to read. The writing style and relatable characters kept me coming back to this book. The pace felt right, if a bit slow at times. Overall I cheered for the main characters and wanted them to thrive. This was a refreshing read, like a sip of cool water on a hot day.
