A bold introduction to both the Dresden Files series and Urban Fantasy as a whole. A private eye with access to magic, Dresden uses cunning, strength, and an ever present dry wit to combat the dark forces of Chicago, both mortal and supernatural. Though not the strongest entry in the series, it starts readers on a journey that will captivate them for years to come. Would've been 3.5 stars because some of the characters can come off a little one dimensional, but raised it to a 4 since they are new and quickly grow into fan favorites over the rest of the series.

An open love letter to Tolkien, this anthology takes all the best parts of medieval fantasy and warfare and weaves an epic tale that's impossible to put down. What starts as a simple story of finding one's place in the world, grows and evolves so organically, you'd swear you were the one it all happened to.

A post-apocalyptic novel told from the perspective of an peaceful housekeeping robot. Not what I originally imagined when I first picked up this book. Though it takes a while for the MC to come to terms with "his" new reality, the story does a great job of depicting how an A.I. can go from following it's programming to finding it's purpose. The naivety of the MC does seem a bit grating at times, but that is more a reflection on me thinking as a human than anything against the MC. The pacing is slow, but this doesn't hurt the conclusion of the story. A well written first book in what looks to be an entertaining new series.
