Reads like a long short story. There were a lot of fun ideas. There where also aspects of Prince Ruby's development that felt forced and unrealistic. Vocq on the other hand was the Ahab that we all wished for.
I am torn on this book; it would be more accurate to say that some chapters are 2's(name dropping, boring, superficial) and some are 5's (want to share with everyone, changed the way I think about the world, myself, and humanity).
The idea of looking at our current situation from the lens of deep time to give context and hope for our current environmental crisis (and other existential crisis).
I really wanted to like this book more, but the author kept telling me things instead of showing me anything.
I was torn on whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. I had already read Thaler's other books so much of this was not new. That said I would recommend it to someone who had not yet read his work, particularly if you are a decision architect.
While a compelling plea for using a checklist and a good read, most of the learning seem to be superseded by Agile. If I had read this 5-10 years ago I think it would have been more powerful.
The problem with high expectations for an author I love is sometimes I am just a bit more critical.

This book and Non-Violent Communication, have been the most personally impactful books I have read on communication. I gave it 5 stars for that reason, not because of how or how well it was written.
It is a radio drama of The Sandman. They did in soundscape what the artist did with drawings. Thought it was not the complete work.
I Like Door of perception. He write beautifully on his use of Mescalin. The second book was slow though I do love his thoughts on shiny things and the other world.
Wow. Read this book. The ideas are clear and clarify, a true paradigm shift in that I can't imagine not using Wilkerson's frame work for understanding american history. She is not only insightful but a gifted story teller, breathing drama and tension into her work of nonfiction.
There were parts that were quite thought-provoking, but both as a book and a process for how we get to that future it was underwhelming.
I read through this book quite quickly and enjoyed. I then for the next 25 hour I could not stop thinking about it. The book can be read as a simple magical coming of age story. Or about overcoming predgidous. Or as a fantasy adventure. It can as be read as a critique of capitalism and castism. It has all the appeal of HP but without the sexism and morality tropes. While it has shade of dark like Garth Nix, Novik maintains her delightfully unique voice. I am greatly looking forward to the sequel.
I gave it three stars because so of the ideas were truly new to me. HOWEVER, He routinely made sweeping and unsubstantiated claims about the benefits of a capitalist system, even as citing counter examples. This drove me crazy.
If you pick this book up, read it with a VERY critical eye.
While it is a book on sex, it just as much a book on psychology and the human experience. It seems to be written for women but since so much of the book is about introspection I would recommend it to any man, or non-binary identify person. If I ever have kids this book would also be the centrepiece of a conversation around sexual expression.
I loved Spinning Silver, read this immediately after and found it not nearly as satisfying. I think reading them in that order and proximity did Uprooted a disservice since without that context I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more.
Stunning short stories. Chiang plays so elegantly with belief, loss, religion, science, and wonder. I was utterly captivated.
This book is a light read that asks you to dive into your soul or self-identity, and divine what you find.
It felt a little rush and at times he seemed to use pop interpretation of cultures, mythologies, and their gods. I love the vignette scattered through out the book.
Got about halfway through before I realized that I wasn't going to start liking the character. A very plot-driven book. The setting started out interesting but turned a little cliche.
A fascinating read if you are casually interested in the work and drama of trying to build out clean energy infrastructure.
