Stunning. Absolutely fantastic. What a dark and grim novel with heart and amazing characters. Really outstanding
100/100
An amazing accomplishment. This book was a great read. I was really worried with the structure and the decision that the author made to the structure and overall mini plot points but she somehow managed to tie everything together to create an epic narrative.
And can we take a moment to appreciate how beautifully written it is and I feel like the translation did an excellent job. Mariana Enriquez has an incredible imagination and knows how to draw up a scene and make you feel like you're in that moment. I have highlighted numerous sentences to go back because their can be so much to unpack or they're just so well delivered.
I'll be honest I was worried about 70% of the way through that this story had dropped a lot of what made the first quarter really great. But I kept on and the author really had everything placed with purpose.
This won't be an easy read. It's long. It is a slow burn at times but that pay off is worth it and you should check it out. I know this will be staying with me for a long time.
Solid 8/10 read. Strong world with awesome and unique magic system. Didn't love the structure of the book and felt lacking in some departments. But it's a good time and I'll be continuing soon
80/100. Really solid story. The highlights are the folklore, the imagery given by Broms descriptions and a great protagonist. The story is one of revenge and it's a delight when it happens. Solid read. Check it out
3.75 pretty fast read. Has some great moments of suspense and a decent mystery. Wish we had a bit more meat to the characters and backstory but for a 250 page book it's a great fast read
Another fun and interesting story set in this universe. It still has plenty of problems but they are entertaining and the mystery still compels me to continue whenever a new book is available
8/10 very sweet and endearing story and has a great finish in my opinion. I will say the magic system and structure faltered for me personally.
Perfect. Loved it. Want/need more of this world. Such a great novel. Loved how pov of the narrative and how it's framed
7.5/10 direct continuation of Empires of Death but this book feels extremely bloated at times and pacing is an issue. The story is fantastic and has some amazing moments.
90/100
I really loved this. It has great characters, a unique idea and great execution. I'm left wanting more of this world though. I do think she could've made this a trilogy to fleet out the school, teachers and students more so the events have more impact. But for a novel under 600 pages. The author accomplishes a lot and it's so damn good.
80/100
A very solid haunted house story. I can see why people have complaints about the characters being unlivable and while I feel some of this was a tad forced and on the nose. We do get character development as the story goes. I do wish we got more back story to have the heavy moments towards the end be more impactful but I found this book very touching. And while it's not the most philosophical book to take on death and grieving. It does have something to say which I do appreciate. Just wish the themes were explored more.
7.5/10 I need to brew on this one. It's got some great moments and I'll be honest. I don't know the original story so maybe after some context I'll appreciate it more
7.3/10 a ground and pretty good story overall. I liked the setting and characters. But I do feel left wanting more. It's more grounded in its story than you may think also.
3.75/5
This book was a really fun surprise to read. Picked on a whim and had a great time reading it. My favorite parts about it are the dragons and the unique spin the author puts on them. I also enjoy the world building in this book. The character POVS I enjoyed the most are Fenn, Torston and Apollo.
The book is fast paced and each POV is enjoyable to read and manages to keep the narrative going at all times and never drags the story.
The weakest part in my opinion is Calidra. She's extremely frustrating at times and while it's never bad. Her outbursts and anger towards anyone besides her partner is kinda feels purposely placed to create conflict. It never feels quiet organic.
I'm very excited to follow this story. Theirs a lot of promise and I'm very interested to see how the story unfolds
Quick read, pretty superficial in its story and characters. Theirs some intriguing concepts so I'll continue the series. Not scary or creepy. Leans into a YAish horror novel
Really interesting and conceptually appealing manga. The artwork is top notch. I will say I did fine the story rather underwhelming when we got to the conclusion. But. Maybe that's the point? It may grow or me. But right now I'm feeling a 6.5/10
8/10
Great read. I have not dabbled much in the fantasy like this. But it was so much fun. I do wish we got a bit more character dialogue between the companions. At moments I wish I cared more about the characters but they felt a bit wooden outside of our lead protagonist. Who is a joy to read and listen to. But it makes the other characters kinda bland. What I do love is the world building and the mythos of this world. It's so good. And I cannot wait to jump back into this world.
It's an interesting premise and I understand im supposed to not understand some stuff. But it definitely is a challenging read. I do love the first half more than the second book but I'm definitely wanting to continue on and see where this goes.
Loved coming back to Crispin. I have hope this ties into later books. His character growth was cool to see
95 out if 100.
Quick, engaging and oddly poetic in the most macabre ways. I love how tightly written this is but gives you enough more and story it's worth revisiting. I really enjoyed Clive's writing style overall. Read in one sitting too.
