See allI felt like the relationship was rushed and I didn't get any chemistry (aside from sexual) between the main characters. I'm not a fan of women being treated like fragile children that need protecting. Wasn't the right vibe for me.
While the story was pretty good, I don't care, or know, that much about video games and that part of the book started to feel tedious to me pretty quickly. I also didn't like the main characters very much and was very frustrated by their lack of communication and sheer selfishness. I did like how the book dealt with real life issues and the nostalgia of the video games I played as a kid.
While I liked the overall story, especially Ruby's, I felt that this book was poorly written. There was so much fluffy, unnecessary language and a few times I thought to myself that no one would ever talk that way in real life. To me it seemed that the author was trying way too hard. I also felt like Cricket's character was all over the place and not really thought out.
I thought the premise of the book was really interesting but I found it to be too long, boring (I would tune out if the audiobook often and still know what was going on), condescending and had flat, one dimensional characters. It was not for me.
