Between the two twins I liked reading Rin's story more. But Sila is so interesting because he's so unhinged and remorseless. Bay and Sila are perfect for each other but they are both incredibly toxic in different ways. Sila falling to the category of “if you even think about leaving me I'll physically harm you” and Bay being “if you ever leave me I'll harm myself”. Also, the small plot twist at the very end with Bay's confession made several parts of the earlier book not make sense. If he was planning certain things out the way he claimed during his confession then in his own thoughts earlier in the book he was lying. And why would he need to lie in his own thoughts?! Overall 4/5.
I love tagging along on adventures with our little man. He's been through so much and is still brave and kind❤️ I am worried about his safety in the next novel though. There are foul schemes afoot and several people wanting to do Rosamund harm right now. I hope the Duke of sparrows is watching over him! Can't wait to see how the trilogy concludes.
Oh my god, what a great story! I'm not a person who can handle very scary things, but this book had the perfect amount of horror in it for me. I could read an entire book of Okiku exacting sweet, bloody vengeance on murderers and never get tired of it.
2.75 stars. I'm a Lily Mayne stan because of her Monstrous book series, but this book was tough to get through. Enjoyable enough but it does drag in the middle. And it's kind of depressing for my tastes. The main character Cody is abused and neglected by every member of his immediate family and it's sad to read through. I also felt myself getting more annoyed with Cody as the book progressed and I got tired of Nor's personality consisting only of “I love Cody”. HOWEVER, I'm so ready for a spin off book about Lau! Please tell me that is in the pipeline.
I love Chani Feener's dark books and I will read anything she publishes. Inject these toxic boys right into my veins but be mindful of the trigger warnings. Feener's books will make lots of people uncomfortable. 4.75/ 5 stars because of the spelling errors sprinkled throughout. I've said this for other Feener books I've reviewed but her books tend to need one more pass through with editing. For example, there are a few times where the name “Rin” is written but she really means “Sila” or vice versa. And when your book is about identical twins it's important to keep whose doing what straight.
I am a little bit sad about the ending but I know what happened was for the best. Loved the book regardless.
I love the movie Coraline with my whole heart but I had never read the Coraline book before today. I'm so glad I decided to pick it up. I listened to the audiobook that was narrated by Neil Gaiman and he really brought that extra something to the experience. I obviously knew what was going to happen because I've seen the film so many times, but the book is even more unsettling than the movie and I loved that. 5 stars.
3.75 stars. Cute story, easy read, I liked the couple. My biggest problem was that there was too much miscommunication and mistrust between the love interests. Yes they're enemies at first, but they are being paranoid of each other's actions well into their “lovers” phase and that didn't make sense to me. At the smallest problem all the trust they built would just get thrown out the window. meanwhile someone off page would have to tell them “hey have you thought it might be X or Y?” And then they solve the problem together. It took me so long to read because all the miscommunication twists were annoying me so it gets a lower star rating for that.
3 stars. I don't fully know how to feel about this one. On one hand, I love E.M Lindsey and their ability to write emotionally gripping love stories. On the other hand, this particular couple's story felt rushed to me. There were some very sweet moments in here but there were also things that bothered me. Like mention of SA against a minor that I felt was 1) rushed and 2) handled a little poorly. Not EML's best work but it was a fine book.
I really wish the summary mentioned that this book is a prequel to Six Crimson Cranes. I haven't read SCC and I didn't know these stories were connected so I went in 100% blind.
Let me start by saying that for about 75% of the novel I was thinking of rating 4 or 5 stars. I enjoyed the fast paced plot, I liked Channi, the world building was decent. But then I got to the ending...and I was so deeply offended with how the author wasted my time that I'm dropping my rating down to 2 stars. The ending legitimately made me angry. Even after ranting about it to two friends and my husband I am still mad about how it ended. I will never stop being mad about the ending. Justice for Hokzuh!! The author did him totally dirty!
I wasn't ever that interested in reading Six Crimson Cranes so I have no idea if that series is much better or about the same as this one. But I do know that the author has totally lost my trust and I'm so upset by this ending that I might never read another novel from her again. I feel like I can't trust the author not to pull the rug out from under me again.
This was great! It's a bit slow for the first 30% of the book but I didn't mind because we get backstory and the daily lives of our titular Golem and Jinni as they try to fit into human society. The story really starts to pick up after the two main characters meet. There are several different perspectives and all the characters we follow in those chapters play an important role in the larger story so I was never confused or feeling like certain viewpoints were meaningless. I loved the intermixing of both Arabic and Jewish mythology and felt like I was learning some interesting things. I wouldn't call this first installment a love story because there is very little romance in this book, but I think the second novel is going to focus more on the relationship between Chava and Ahmad.
I love E.M Lindsey's books because they always do such a great job with character development. Everything comes from the heart and everyone is so sincere in their novels. This one is no different. I love Noah and Adriano and I think their relationship was wonderful and beautiful. I enjoyed their story from start to finish.
This book was surprisingly soft for a story about a psychopathic vampire who finds his mate. Considering we are introduced to both Eric Monroe and Wolfgang in the worst light possible in the other novels both of them were delightful to read about. I thought Wolfe was very funny in his own way and I honestly agreed with a lot of the things he did/ said. He was very reasonable and much less crazy than Lucien used to be. Eric was actually similar to Gabe with his feelings of anxiousness but he also had a lot of self doubt that made him endearing. The third act “twist” of this novel was definitely weak compared to the others of the series but it allowed us to be introduced to more fun characters.
I think I've found that short story collections aren't really for me. I only read Charlie and Moth's stories as well as Hunter and Edin's story and then the book sat on my kindle untouched. I have to be honest with myself and know that I will just not be reading the other stories because I got what I wanted. Which was mostly more of Charlie and Moth. And snippets of a few of the other couples. And I'm incredibly satisfied with leaving it at that.
5 stars! This book is wonderful. I loved every single character (especially Fermin) and I thought the villain was great at making me hate him. The romance was less interesting to me because it's written from the perspective of a teenage boy and seeing as I have never been a teenage boy I found it hard to relate to Daniel's feelings sometimes
2 stars. For a book about the Italian mafia and recovering from the trauma of sex trafficking this was boring. I gave it a good +30% before deciding to just skip to the end because there was no way I was going to finish it otherwise. The main couple is okay but I prefer the couple from the first novel. Gin is Wacky, Ashe is sweet but needy and they love each other so good for them. I only picked up this one because I wanted to read the third novel but honestly I think I need a break from the mediocrity of this series.
DNF@ 20% It's not that bad but it's leaning a bit too close to erotica for my tastes. The amount of times the word “cock” came up in the few chapters I read was enough to let me know that it wasn't for me.
A fun enough read with an interesting enough plot. I wanted it to be a bit more scandalous considering the subject matter but it was pretty tame.
This book was so pointless, boring, and full of plot holes that I had to skim my way through it just to make it to the end. I didn't hate it but I did not have a good time reading it at all. Both Belle and Colt are bad communicators and they both make stupid decisions throughout the novel. For a book that's supposed to be about werewolf cowboys and has a vampire army threat nothing exciting or interesting really happens.
Maybe a 3/ 5 stars. I really liked the message in the beginning but after the 60% mark it felt a little bit like we were playing trauma bingo. So many traumatic things just started happening! I felt like some of the message of accepting yourself for the beauty on the inside was lost at the end. Overall, it was an easy read and I did like Chris and Ashley as a couple.
This book was so different than the first novel in the series but I loved it. Remiel and Phelan have a toxic love situation going on, but honestly good for them. They're still perfect together. Remiel is a new problematic fav for me. He is an ancient demon and his behavior matches that. He did/ said many reprehensible things and I still love him because I'm trash.
This and Eric A. Craig novels are probably the closest I will ever come to reading horror. This book explores the dark, malevolent side of magic that's usually seen in horror stories. Be warned if you're an animal lover, there are multiple, graphic descriptions of rabbits being killed or showing up places dead in this book. But at it's heart it's a story about a mother who made a very dangerous mistake when she was younger trying to protect and also relate to a daughter who knows that her mother is not all she says she is.
