I have read and loved the series. I felt the characters lacked depth and development, likely depending on the actors to show that emotion and nuance. 3.5 stars, 3 for the story and 4 for knowing more about some of the myriad of characters.

Wonderful. The best book I read in 2008.

Why do authors write trite predictable “fillers” in their series books?! I will skip the next book that is written to get the detective out of prison and back on force. Gahhh

No stars. Finished 2 chpaters and put it down. Too many other books to read to waste on this.

I tired of this book about a third of the way through. I really felt that Bryson was repetitive.

I this this might be the rare book that would be better as a movie. Storyline was excellent, language/writing was spare and the actors could give it so much.

Fun murder mystery that takes place in a big city newspaper. i.e. NY Times. Quick vacation read.

Fun! One of my favorite mystery series. New one out soon and this one has several story threads left unfinished.

So dated and plodding.

Wow. Quite a compelling read. The dirty little secrets hinted at in the reviews leave you unprepared. Tightly plotted and well paced.

Slow to develop? No, just the pace of the book.

This is the second book I've read by Erdrich. I liked the Painted Drum better. I have this on my Kindle and I tend to have larger gaps of time between reading on it. Hard to keep track of the many characters and moving forward and back in time.

Relationships within a large Irish family are examined. The suicide of one of the brothers brings the family together. Narrated by sister with a look back into childhood.

Implausable plot but a fun read. The ‘other' woman has the married man leave his wife and move in with her. Be careful what you wish for is very apt.

Left me with much to think about. Not a typical dystopian novel.

Author took a year to ‘find' herself and God. She had a book deal to do this. Spent a third of the year in Italy, third at a yaga retreat house in India and the last with a ashaman in Indonesia. Like the first two thirds much better than the end. Ending a bit trite.

Tough read but important to know this information. The politics that went into the design of the food pyramid is startling.

Sorry I missed the night my book club discussed this one!

Light and fun, but smart too.

I haven't read P.D. James for a while. The methodical murder procedural was a lovely change. It is no wonder so many of her books are filmed.

A little too predictable but still compelling.

I knew the ending, the plot arc and who would be the bad guy by the end of chapter two. Nothing new here. Skipped and skimmed my way to the end.

This was more than a summer read. Some laugh out-loud moments.

Started reading this series years ago. Starting over
