I liked it! Definitely predictable, but still held my interest. The voice actress was decent except the “English” accent of Hugo seemed more Australian to me.
I enjoyed this book very much. It made me want to get on a plane to visit Vera Wongs tea shop. It was a bit predictable, but overall a very good book.
I made it to 50% before throwing in the towel. It was just “meh” and I found myself being bored and my mind wandering while listening to it. I'm usually a fan of historical fiction, but at 50% I felt like I'd learned all I needed to about the Booth family.
This book is delightful- perfect for a family road trip. Kids 5 and up will enjoy it as much as their parents do.
I just wasn't into it. At 30% I was a little bored so I paused and didn't come back. Might just not have been the right time, I may revisit later.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book. The narrator was excellent! Storyline dragged a bit at times, but I liked the main character enough to want to read the sequel.
I enjoyed it. Audio version is phenomenal. Look forward to the next book, but didn’t rush to start it.
It was fine. I kept listening, so it wasn't “bad”, but I found my mind wandering and had to repeatedly look up summary recaps for chapters because I couldn't keep the people and storylines straight. It seemed like the author kept adding more and more lore and history just when I thought I'd got things organized. I liked the diversity of characters and strong women, but the story didn't draw me in.
I had to look at the publishing date because I couldn't believe this was written recently due to the Fat-phobic storyline and use of the R-word multiple times. I put it down for several months because I was bored, then got the audio version and decided to stick with it. It didn't get much better. The audio version sounds like Siri or Alexa is reading it- strange inflections that don't fit the phrasing.
Honestly I think I would have liked the book a lot more if the narrator wasn't so terrible. She did character voices for everyone and they all sounded like high-pitched fairies or goofy dwarves. Even the bullies sounded like Steve Urkle. The story interested me enough to keep listening, but I wouldn't recommend the audio version to anyone.
I loved this book. It's beautifully written and I loved the insight that the narrator interjected between the parts that moved the story along. The audio version is stellar, I may have found a new favorite voice actor.
I just finished this YA Mystery series and loved it so much! Not only is a great story that has you trying to figure out the mystery along the strong female lead (who is very upfront about her anxiety), but it also has characters of varying genders and abilities woven in, without making any of it a big deal- how it should be! Highly recommend!
Definitely more spice than I like, the whole second half of the book pretty much, but by then I was invested in the storyline and really liked the main character. Audio version is exceptional.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book while I was listening to it, but also found myself forgetting about it as soon as I was done. Still, I'd like to keep reading the series.
