I understood the ending, why the pacing is so slow, and why it feels so open-ended. Yet I don't think that this is the type of book and story I like that much. The world building is truly spectacular, but the pacing is too slow for my liking, we never get to know the characters and feel “connected” to them, and the plot never develops much. There are just some revelations on top of other revelations about the world of the story, yet the whole plot and central “why this is happening” is very vague and, at the end simple.

The book was fine.. but that's probably the extent of it. The characters, the pacing, the writing, the world building, all of it was great, no complaints there.. but the story itself is simply boring.
I am sorry if some do enjoy this, but the only logical reason I see someone might enjoy this story is because it has werewolves.
The romance is kinda insta-love, as usual, and though there is some tension between the characters, most of it is because they are awkward around eachother.
Also, sometimes the dialogues are super cringy and unnatural, and there are even times where the interactions dont make sense (I still dont understand why Olivia is so mad at Grace in the beginning when she thinks Jack was turned into a werewolf, and I don't understand why Grace is so mad at Olivia for saying that she has an obsession with wolves when she clearly does and even states that fact later on).
I don't see how a book where the main problem is that the love interest doesn't want to be a wolf anymore, is exciting or interesting in any way. Sure, there is a subplot of Jack who doesn't want to be a werewolf and demands the characters find a cure (didn't read to this point this is just info from the internet), but it's not enough in my opinion.
I cam read these books over and over and if there were a 1000 books in the series I would read them all and never get tired
Have cried too many times while reading this book. It doesn't make any sense to me why, probably just the topics of the book.
I like that there is a lot going on besides the romance. The main romance interactions feel quite natural and the dialogue is SO WITTY I loved it so much I found myself giggling in some instances.
Overall a really great book
Thank GOD it's finally over. This was pure torture it never got better it just got shittier and felt so fake istg
I don't know why people are so upset. This book fulfilled it's role as a filler very well, and acted as an epilogue of sorts for Rhysand and Feyre. It wasn't supposed to be plot heavy at all, so it's unfair to judge the book for the lack of it.
4.5
The book overall was great; the pacing, the writing, the world building, the characters. Nonetheless, I had a few issues with some behaviors of the characters that I couldn't understand until the very end.
The book has great writing and natural dialogue. The whole premise is very interesting and the world-building is very good and encapsulates a lot of versatile subjects and fields (hunting, butcher shops, pets, abandoned animal residences like zoos, scavangers, the whole bird premise, etc.). Nevertheless, the plot never actually gets developed - it just feels like a long description of this new world after the transformation and of the backstory of the main character. After beginning the book and getting through the exposition, I began thinking, “What is the message? What could be the ending to this book? What is the goal of this piece of literature? Is this whole description for nothing?”.
And let me tell you: The ending failed to redeem the shortcomings of the plot.
Such a weird plot twist, contradicting everything that we've been told about Marcos until this point. Throughout the book we are shown over and over how he is not indifferent to the horrors of the new world, how he still cares about those “heads”, and how he takes care of his demented father (which is the opposite of his sister). We are shown how he is patient with his wife and how he tries to stay strong despite his tragic circumstances.
And yet...
In the summary we are told that he starts to see the “female” as a human little by little, while reading we see how he slowly starts to treat her better, how he tries to teach her manners... and even after all that he simply kills her in the end; Without even letting her hold her own baby - removing her completely from the equation and the process that gifted Marcos his new child.
Of course, throughout the book we see that he still keeps her locked in the house or installs cameras to watch her and other things, but it still seems that things are getting better for Jasmine gradually... Until we realize at the end that that was never the case at all, which makes Marcos not any better than the other psychos and sadists in the book, in my opinion.
In conclusion, great story-telling abilities, but seems that the story itself was a little half-assed and not entirely thought through.
The MC is really self-absorbed in my opinion and in general I didn't like his point of view that much.
I was hoping at least the romantic interactions in the book would make it bearable to read, but instead I realize I've come across an insta-love story with a little bit of tension between the characters.
Sorry, but this is not for me
This book has been an amazing read. Alice Oseman's ability to create natural dialogue and characters with depth and real lives is truly wonderful. Really liked that the book really emphasized the importance of friendship and overall I just felt seen and understood by this book
This book has been quite a ride. Never read a book about philosophy and psychology that is not purely story-telling. There was a lot of terminology I was not familiar with but enjoyed nonetheless. Overall very inspirational and motivational.
I gasped.
This book was an amazing read, truly captivating. It's plot is really complex, with carefully thought-through characters amd a rich world surrounding the story. My review can't possibly do any justice to this book.
Psychological thrillers >>>>>
I thought the story would take a positive turn at the end. But I was mistaken.
The last 4 chapters left a void in my heart eventhough I have kind of foreseen the events that took place.
Truly a very unique and emotional read for me. A piece of fiction where I expected an explanation (for the disappearances at least) but didn't get any and had to adjust my thoughts about it accordingly - just like the characters in the book had to adjust to the disappearances on the island.
Circe is such a unique character - she is a goddess who despises her immortality but makes use of it for the good of others (most of the time), as opposed to the other Greek gods. The writing style is awesome and I like the way Madeline Miller describes situations and scenes. Overall, although I disliked the fact that Circe goes on to marry Thelemacus (In my opinion a mother-son relationship would have fitted better.. With Circe always searching for a stable connection with someone and just losing her son and all that.. but it's the original story of Circe sooooo) the whole retelling was very well written and I'm impressed with the way the author makes me like characters which are always portrayed as heartless and cold in the original stories.
3.5. The stories are really good and the writing is very unique, but it was hard to read for me and overall not my perfect read
The book was alright
But the ending just earned it another star
Not the writing style I prefer but it was quite enjoyable
Good idea. Brilliant even. Bad, awful, disappointing execution. While reading I felt like I couldn't follow the plot and was just getting bored. Too slow paced in my opinion.
I am shaken to my core. Can't believe a book actually succeeded in disturbing me that much... And such a short story at that. Horrid and revolting.
Read about 50% of the book and read a summary, and I think I understood the general and the way the book is written in general. For me personally, it was a little difficult into the story, the writing was unique and a little complex (not surprising, considering it's a literary classic), but the premise was interesting and the story itself unfolded little by little uncovering a wonderful piece of literature. Couldn't finish though because I felt there were a lot of side stories that bored me, although some werr important to the story.
