See allIn a small mountain community decimated by a mysterious virus, three strangers with little in common are brought together by their desire to see a better future. Engaging and suspenseful from start to finish, we are witness to a world where the rule of law has been thrown out the window, food supply and air quality have been compromised, and something strange has been unleashed jeopardizing humanity’s very survival. Told with a sharp eye for detail, the characters are each fully drawn, and the setting is both familiar and eerily unrecognizable. As we watch these three unlikely friends struggle against all odds, we can’t help but cheer them on as they retain everything that’s good about mankind. Merilyn Liddell’s story is a captivating tale and one that offers hope, above all else, in uncertain times.
What do you get when a small town girl with an open heart and a welding truck takes to the road in search of quantum mechanics, an unusual artist, and "the unexpected and the unknown"? Tyler Trafford's free-spirited Analiese Drucker takes the reader on a journey filled with imaginative, witty and thought-provoking characters who will stay with you long after you finish the last page. A wonderfully fun book that captures small town Alberta and leaves you hoping for more of his writing.
Captivating and heartbreaking, this story of Mennonite colonies in the part of Russia known as Ukraine, is told with empathy and compassion. The story revolves around young orphaned siblings as they journey to find safety and the story of several Mennonite families caught in the turmoil of WWI and the horror of the Russian revolution that followed. Beautifully written with well-drawn characters, descriptive settings that allow the reader to really see the scene, and the promise of a hopeful future.
A fast-paced adventure with a wonderful sense of time and place, this book turns the hero myth on its head with female characters tasked with the ultimate responsibility to save their world. The story also had an interesting political statement regarding racism that made the book more interesting to me. Or I could be reading more into it than intended. It could just be a good story with wizards and magic and love.If you’re a lover of fantasy and looking to get lost in a battle against evil where all that’s good and right is clearly set before you, then Alban’s Choice is skillfully told.
