See allThis was so dry and boring for the most part. I could not connect or care about the non-human characters or their biology and evolution. I also found weird that their society evolved so similarly to human society in so many ways. I don’t think I’ll continue with the series.
Very repetitive and formulaic, in ends the exact way you'd think it will. No surprises here. I was mostly bored, sometimes rolling my eyes at the insufferability of the main character. Nora would declare “I hate being in the spotlight” and immediately decide that she wanted to be famous.. humm okay then. Various contradictory decisions.
The books ending improved it some for me but I think its still more like a 2.5 star read. There was a general lack of nuance both in the characters and in the message.
Most of the male side characters were just plain bad people with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Their internal thoughts were “women are dumb and let me teach them a lesson”. It got old fast. The main character never missed an opportunity to beat me over the head with speeches containing messages about feminism, inequality in gender and race and how we need to fight the patriarchy.
I approve the messages but the manner in which they were delivered felt forced and preachy, like the writer didn’t trust me to understand on my own. It irritated me to be honest. I almost DNFed it but decided to see where it would go.
I enjoyed Razorblade Tears. This book is revenge porn at its best. It does contain some graphic descriptions of violence, so reader beware. SA Cosby manages to weave discussions of race, gender, lgbtq and minorities beautifully with the story without ever feeling forced. I specially enjoyed the conversations between Ike and Buddy Lee.
The narrator Adam Lazarre-White did an excellent job bringing unique voices to the different characters. I think he elevated the book even more. I also enjoyed his narration of All the Sinners Bleed, so he’s 2/2!
Urghh talk about overstaying your welcome! This book dragged on, it could have been 20% shorter and have the same effect. I didn't like the villain at all, but that was just personal preference. I was just annoyed when I got to 75% and wanted it to end.
