Really fascinating take on Shakespearean history. Some of the dialogue gets cheesy, particularly the modern settings, but it still came together in a satisfying way, leaving me more interested in these plays than I was when I started the book.

The complexity of pain, of self hatred, the raw humanity of so many characters... It's a tough read that forces the reader to grapple with their own ease of judgement. And while not the sole point of the book by any means, the damage adults render unto children by not facing their own hurt is cruel and vast.

The descriptive style is so immersive, you can smell the Italian air, taste the food, hear the peaceful nature and community... Perfect first step for me to dip my toe back in to more fiction reading.
