I haven't read any books about Reapers in a long time. This was refreshing to read because I have always enjoyed books about lonely guys forced to live in the real world as time goes by.
When Ari finally met Niko after liking him for years, it was quite cute in Niko's POV. He was proper and realized his attraction to Ari right away. The book is quite short so you notice that they fall for each other quite quick but it is cute. I feel so much heart ache for Ari near the end because well she looses people she really cares about. Then she looses a little bit of herself but love takes sacrifice. I am so happy this is a series because I can't wait to read the second one! Would recommend.
I have mixed feelings about this book. Not whether or not it was good because I was really engrossed in it! It was the story that made me have mixed feelings.
Casey is a very down to earth girl that works a lot to try and pay for NYC. I really liked her character but you can tell she has a dark background. At times she would surprise me because she sort of acted too innocent when it seemed like she knew more.
[SPOILERS]
I am usually all for love triangles also. Casey starts to date a wonderful guy named Toby and everything was going well. After Toby's assistant (and at the time the assistant was really bitchy) told Casey that he will never get over his ex, she started to lean toward Jared.
The ending was also a big shock! I knew Casey was part of something big but not this! I will keep an open mind in the next book that is supposed to come out sometime this year! Overall, the book was really well written and it made me happy that the author was not afraid to talk about sex. Sometimes in young adult books, talking about sex or doing anything past kissing is a no-no. I understand it is young adult, but this was great to see. Sometimes a little spice needs to be added to the relationships since most of the time they talk about how “connected” they are.
So this was the sequel to the first book I reviewed, One. Leigh Ann Kopans does not disappoint you with this entire book! I did get into a slump in the middle of reading this and didn't finish it till I went to work.
[SPOILERS]
Once Merrin and Elias get out after the escaped, they just go around to the different Hubs and hope someone can help them. There wasn't much action during this... they kind of just get away then go to another Hub. Then they are found and the Hub they're at blows up and they fly at supersonic speed to the most secure Hub. This is where they try to discover how they can help everyone and Merrin is still trying to become a Super through the tubes she stole.
Once the action started, I really got into the book and didn't want to be disturbed while I was reading it. The ending was really cute and I was happy for Merrin and Elias. I'm pretty sure there isn't going to be another book... it ended with a happy closing but anything could happen probably. I would recommend this series!
First of all, let me point out that I was given this book for review and in exchange to give my honest opinion.
With that said, this book bothered me quite a bit and it took me a long time to get through it. The main character, David, is this unlikeable character that doesn't have much going for himself. He is mad at the world, depressed, and barely doing anything to change. Throughout the entire book, he didn't seem to change. In the beginning, he was very much against any type of change. He would argue against it with his girlfriend, Carol. Then about two thirds into the book, he decided to play adult. Act like one kind of and do what Carol wanted even though that isn't what he wants. He seemed lost for pretty much the entire book. That was one sad character.
I didn't see any character development till about the last chapter of the book. The way he spoke also annoyed me because he never seemed sure of himself. There were a lot of “whatever”, “I mean”, “um”, “I don't know”'s after literally everything he said. It was very hard to read. The author wrote the dialogue like most people talk but that is not always the best for a book. For a main character, I would of liked to see a lot more of character development by at least half way in. He did somewhat but you could tell it was all fake. That he was just doing it for the sake of his relationship.
By the end of the book, things seem to be getting slowly better for him despite what happened to him. He had to deal with a lot of bad luck and it seemed like he would give up. He doesn't though and he gets some breaks here and there. He doesn't seem to do anything for himself though. Everyone is handing him all these opportunities and he is just like “ok maybe”. Like come on, do something about it! He had no confidence at all and I think that is what hurt him the most as a main character, an author, and a person overall. It was just a really frustrating character to read.
For the other characters, I would say that there wasn't a lot of description and background story for them. You just got about a paragraph of description and were back reading the present dialogue. I would of liked to see how Carol and David got together. They seemed to put up with each others problems too much to make me personally want to stick around in that relationship. The character development for the story is just what bothered me the most. I felt no connection for any of the characters.
Overall, this book was alright. I wouldn't of picked it up myself if I wasn't given it for review. I was excited to read about it and hoped that it would be a good book outside of my usual comfort zone, but I was wrong. Maybe it just wasn't the right book for me and what I enjoy to read.
Demi has everything she thought she would ever want. A cafe that she will take over one day, a boyfriend that is successful, an awesome family and friends. Her best friend Anna and her put together a five year plan for their lives. Demi wants to take over the cafe, have a lovely boyfriend and be happy. This all comes crashing down one day. Everything she thought she had has disappeared. Her father has given the cafe to her oldest brother and her boyfriend is not who she thought he was.
Demi made the decision to go to Italy to get away but also learn about her culture. She wants to prove to her father that she should run the cafe and come back with a new business plan. What she didn't expect though is to meet a cute Italian guy on the plane named Leo. She later finds out that he is part of the family feud between her family and his.
That was such a cute read! I know it is basically stating the obvious but it was so Italian with the family feud and secret love between the families. Leo was very charming and there were moments where I was hoping he wasn't using her to get between the family feud but he was genuine the entire time. Leo and Demi were so cute together and their love made my heart ache. I definitely feel like we were told about their love more than showed sometimes. We got lots of kissing but that was about all. I wish I felt more of a physical as well as emotional connection between the two love interests. I think that would have made me connect with them a lot more.
Overall, this was a very cute book that made the main character grow and mature even when you a bit older. It really showed that you don't have to have it all together by 25. I enjoyed the characters. They were all fun and colorful. I could hear the Italian accents through the dialogue and it made me smile.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited to get my hands on Curse Touched after finishing Shadow Touched in one sitting. Curse Touched picked up right where the first book ended and we finally got POV of Lochlan! I love when I get to get into the mind of the main characters love interest.
Curse Touched follows Kenna after the attack with her and her friends at the end of book 1. She has been taken to the school of witches where she meets the head mistress and Isla's brother, Noah. She is basically a prisoner there while she tries to learn about herself, what the head mistress wants from her and how she can get out to get back to Lochlan.
She learns more about her purpose, how she can control her powers a bit more but then she hears that Isla has been taken and needs to be saved. She breaks out of the school with Noah and meets up with Lochlan and Kade. I was so sad to see what happened to Isla! I hope to read more about her in book 3 and how they are able to get back to normal. I really enjoyed her and Kenna's friendship.
The entire book follows Kenna while she tries to understand her powers, work with everyone to try and break the curse but also get closer to Lochlan. I loved the little snippets into his mind, it was so refreshing to read about his past because as a reader, you are able to piece together more information that you would not get from Kenna. I loved how their bond got stronger and their love grew over the book.
The ending though! Curse Becky Moynihan for her cliffhanger endings! She knows what she is doing too with those author notes right at the end! I really enjoy this series though. I cannot wait to read book 3 but now I must wait probably over a year! :(
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was honestly better than the original HP books. I loved it so much and I have a new found love for the Dramione ship. This FF is 18+ and I would read up on the trigger warnings before getting into it. It is definitely a verryyyy dark romance. I plan on reading some of SenLinYu's other AO3 reads now!
This was literally the longest fanfic I've ever read. At times I got annoyed with the miscommunication and the whining but the story was beautifully written, very well researched and the plot just came all together by the end. The foreshadowing was really strong with this one. I almost put it down about 80% in due to it being similar to the end of episode 9 but I'm glad I stuck with it.
I was enjoying this till the end. The ending was weak. It really needed an epilogue to pull everything together.
I really like Emmitt and Michelle but honestly I skimmed this book. The plot is basically the same with little differences. With other authors male POVs you get different side plots and interactions but not really with these companion novels.
Cry of the Sea by D. G. Driver was a very interesting book about the mystery behind mermaids. It was structured differently than any other mermaid book I have read for the young adult audience. The story itself was quite realistic when it comes to this situation happening in real life. I believe that the people around us would act in this way.
The main character, Juniper Sawfeather (or June), is a 17 year old girl living in Washington with her activist father and lawyer mother. I really liked the connection that June had with her parents but mostly the connection she had with her father. The first few chapters made me smile as they joked around and had a tiny little wrestling fight before making dinner. June does not want to follow her mother's footprints and wants to be part of the dirty work when it comes to taking care of the environment.
This book is different when it came to the mermaids portion because the author didn't make them seem almost completely human. She described them as having webbed fingers, holes for ears, and gils on their necks. This gave me an interesting image as I was reading through the description of the mermaids. It made me see them in a more realistic light besides the normal way most authors portray them. I would imagine mermaids looking like this if they were real because they are an evolution from fish. Just having a fish tail isn't enough.
[ WARNING THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS ]
When it comes to the story, it was very good. It starts out with June and her father needing to go down to the ocean because there has been an oil leak thanks to an oil company called Affron Oil. They have leaked oil into the ocean and they will need to go down to report this happening plus help out the animals. This is where they find three mermaids that they need to save. Two die pretty quickly but they transfer one to the Aberdeen Sea Mammal Rescue Center. A young man named Carter Crowe comes to help them transfer fish back to the center. You can tell quickly that June and Carter have a connection and that was a good connection to keep me wanting more of them. He seemed perfect for her considering his background and the fact they have a lot in common.
The conflict concerning the mermaids started to become suspicious when two Affron “spies” came to check on the center and they seemed to be looking for the mermaids... as if they knew they had them. Afterwards, some conflict happens when June sends her best friend, Haley, a video of the mermaids. She ends up sending the video to the mean girl, Regina, and she gets it to become viral. This causes June's life to become more hectic. The most annoying part of this was Regina and her friends. I wanted to shake them and tell them to go away because they were not wanted.
The last portion of the book was about June trying to figure out Affron Oil's secret. It was obvious that they knew about the mermaids before June and her father found them. So what were they doing? What do they want with the mermaids? It was interesting to find out that they secretly had 100s of mermaids in this tiny tank! I felt so bad for them and choked up a little when some of them died.
Overall, this book was pretty good and I would recommend it to people if they wanted to read about a mermaid story that was more realistic. I enjoyed the cute romance and I wish I could read more about them. To see what June actually decides to do. Possibly stay in Washington with Carter to try and find her mermaid? I would also read a novella by this author about the mermaids and that land.
I'll be honest with you, the reason I picked up this book was because I was in the bookstore randomly looking for new books and this one sounded a lot like my favorite show LOST. Nil by Lynne Matson is a little bit like LOST but not really.
Nil is an island that no one can explain. It isn't on a map and no one can find it outside of the island. Sound a little familiar? Now listen to this, how you get to the island is different though. You can't be brought down by a plane crash or anything. To get to this island, teenagers (13-19 years old) see a shimmering portal and get sucked through it if they're close enough. Sounds a little crazy, huh? When you get sucked through this portal, you are transported to the island Nil where you are completely stripped of your clothes and put somewhere on the island.
[ WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS ]
The main characters name is Charley and she was out returning some skirts that she bought right before her senior year of high school started. In the parking lot of Target, Charley spots a shimmering light as the sun passed it. She is then sucked into it and transported to Nil where she has nothing on her, not even her clothes. Charley was transported to a red desert like area on Nil and quickly finds some clothes on the ground. She spends a total of 12 days trying to survive before she accidentally spots some people on the beach she found and decides to reveal herself to them. This is when she spots Thad.
Thad has been on the island for over 200 something days and counting. He has become somewhat of a leader of the Nil City, as they like to call it, where the teenagers are some sort of a society. They pick their skills and contribute to the community while they can. Nil is pretty much a ticking time bomb though for peoples lives. They can only be on the island for 365 before they will die. How do you get off, you say? Well how you got in. You will have to find another shimmering portal to get yourself off of Nil.
Now the book follows two point of views, Charley and Thad. The reader gets to experience what it is like to be a new comer on the island and someone who knows as much as they can. That was really interesting to read because Thad would of explained something earlier in the book and when Charley was beginning to experience that thing, you would know the answer.
I think the best part of the book was when Charley got a theory of how the shimmering portal actually worked. I found it hard to believe though that there wasn't some scientist kid in the past trying to figure that out himself as well. Who doesn't question that sort of thing? Would you just be like “Okay... I just search around this ENTIRE island and I could possibly find a portal.” That is sort of silly. Of course there is a science behind it.
So Charley's theory turns out to be somewhat right and she corrects it later down the road. People were able to go home easier. I found the environment kind of boring though. Most people lived in peace? And there weren't many fights, accidents, or dangerous activities around. Of course there were a few, but not as much as you'd think. I guess when you know there is a way off this island, it is easier to live in peace. It is sort of like life... you do your thing and I will do mine with no killing for the most part. Most peoples priorities seemed to be on getting off the island.
This book was actually pretty predictable but I enjoyed it nevertheless. [Spoiler alert] I pretty much knew when the time would come, Thad would shove Charley through the portal instead of himself. I just knew it! I read that and closed my book screaming, HA! I KNEW IT. But everything worked out. The ending was actually really sweet and I thing Matson could end the series right now if she wanted to but nope! We get a book two!
I would recommend this book to anyone that is a LOST fan and a young adult fan. There isn't much of a mystery and there is still a lot of unsolved mysteries about the island that I hope we will find out in book 2. Maybe Thad and Charley will go back? Who knows. I gave this book about a 4/5 star rating. It was enjoyable.
“Touch me. “ Zane said. “I'm not untouchable. Not to you, Desiree.” Squeeeeel. Untouchable Zane is about a hot famous actor in California named Zane. He has been dreaming about the same girl since he was 15. Nice dreams about waking up next to her and spending time together but it's always been a dream, right? Not till one day at the gym he see's her... Desiree. He must talk to her and make her his because he is the girl of his dreams.
Desiree is in the process to moving to California after her life went down the drain. She is a 43 year old woman that is basically restarting her life after her boyfriend died. She's going back to school, trying to start her own business and just wanting to have a normal life. She isn't ready for love. She's been burned too many times. All her boyfriends have been either losers or alcoholics. When she meets Zane, a 26 year old actor, she didn't think much of it but she was attracted to him. She felt this pull to him but she can't be with someone else. Especially someone with his lifestyle.
Overall, I did like Desiree but she was a bit annoying at times with her inner monologue. I know she's been hurt and burned by guys. The big age gap defiantly probably made her feel like a cougar. It was just a bit much. Low self confidence and whining about how she was attracted to Zane but could never trust him or be with him.
Let's talk about Zane. Love the guy to death. He was always there to talk to Desiree, make her or take her out to dinner, offered rides, and wanted to mark things off her bucket list together. I was rooting for Zane. I wanted him to get the girl. Near the end, I was sad to see how much he deteriorated when not having Desiree around. He felt strong but I guess it was a facade.
Overall, this was a cute story. I find it hard to find a love story where you actually see the characters get to know each other. I guess this is why this is a slow burn, duh. The writing was well done. Well written loved characters and descriptive scenes with lots of vividness. The spice level was very minimal (if you're interested). Not a fade to black but very minimal description for the act. I recommend this if you're looking for a book focused around mental health, substance abuse recovery, self growth and a slow burn romance.
Thank you Debbie Cromack for gifting me this book in exchange for my honest review!
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline had me hooked from the very beginning. The atmosphere of the book, world, and characters were overwhelming and had me on the edge of my seat most of the time. The history of Oasis and the creators brought light to the virtual reality world. The hunt for the Easter Egg brought excitement to the book but the real purpose behind the story was to stop the organization IOI from taking over Oasis.
I really enjoyed this book and it kept me interested constantly with all of the different pop culture references. I loved that I knew a good amount of them but the others gave me a reason to look them up and learn about new movies, songs, and games to be interested in.
The characters were very well done and interesting to read about. I really enjoyed the main character, Wade, because he was very believable and seemed like the type of stereotype that would be obsessed with video games and virtual reality worlds. Art3mis was badass and I really enjoyed reading about her character because she brought a new spunk to the table. Aech was the funny friend that everyone has and looked out for Wade a lot. All of the main characters were very smart and knew a lot about Halliday.
I liked that there was a villain aspect in this book and that it wasn't completely revolved around getting the Easter egg. There was another purpose to finding the egg first for the characters. It was a nice addition and helped keep the book/game balanced.
Overall, this book had a good balance of humor, knowledge, references, and video game aspects to please even the smallest portion of a geek/nerd. I geeked out during this entire book and the ending had me screaming about foreshadowing I noticed and things I knew would happen. It kept me entertained and that is something I haven't had from a book in a while.
I would recommend this book to so many people and I already have! Anyone that is even remotely interested by the synopsis should pick up this book. If anything, you will get a fast read that will keep you entertained. The best will get an experience that they can live through the eyes of Wade.
Book discussion video where I discuss the whole book! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESbHFsRyqo8
Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout has been sitting in my Kindle library since 2012 and I just got around to reading it! I picked up an actual copy and that is what made me read this book. Jennifer L. Armentrout is one of my favorite authors so I don't know why it took me this long to read this series. I would suggest picking it up.
Half-Blood is such an addictive book. I was sucking in almost immediately and kept reading until I was interrupted.. then read some more. I have always enjoyed her writing and also her love interests. The connections with all of her characters just makes me all gooey inside. I really enjoyed her main character, Alex, she was strong and went through so much during this book. I was worried times about her but she seemed to snap out of her problems pretty quickly.
[ WARNING MAY HAVE SPOILERS ]
After her mother has died, Alex is sent back to the Covenant. This is where half and pure-bloods train to become Guards or Sentinels. The dean is Alex's uncle though who is not very fond of her. He wanted her to work for the pure bloods instead of training to be a Sentinel. Alex is very against this and finally Marcus cracks and introduces her to her new trainer, Aiden.
Now it wouldn't be an Armentrout book without some type of romance. Our lovely contester is Aiden. He is a pure-blood that is a Sentinel that is hired to train Alex after she has gone through an unfortunate event. They spend a lot of time together while training and the readers start to understand him more. He seemed like some boring and stiff person on the outside but was warm on the inside. I never got that feeling though since the moment he was introduced into the book. I saw how he cared for her when he first found her outside being attacked by a Diamon.
Another person we are introduced to is Seth. He is a Apollyon which means that he controls a lot of the elements or senses in his being. He is a cocky and somewhat rude person. Alex does not really like him and tries to ignore him. Until they have realized they have a fate together. Alex will become an Apollyon also and is actually his second half! What?! Love triangle maybe? Near the end of the book you get a feel of that type of love that may bloom in the upcoming books. I cannot wait personally. I love both of Aiden and Seth.. I wonder what happens.
Overall, I loved this book. It made me smile, laugh, and get serious. I loved Alex and everything she stood for. How she is able to take care of herself and others at a small consent. She does have a lot to learn and needs to get over her stubbornness and ask for help once in a while but that is why there is a thing called character growth! I know Jennifer will do her justice and I am about to jump into Pure!
I have been waiting for Isla and the Happily Ever After for the longest time and I was so excited when it finally showed up on my doorstep after pre-ordering the lovely signed copy with all the cute goodies. I drove straight into it and every time I would get interrupted, I wish I didn't have to stop. I've always loved Stephanie Perkins books and I have read all three of the books now. The one thing I love is how all the books have intertwined with each other and how your beloved old characters would show up in the next book you read. Isla was no different.
Isla and the Happily Ever After follows the seniors Isla and Josh at the academy that you know and love where Anna went from Anna and the French Kiss. The book is about their adventure of their last year in high school, their future, and of course their love. Isla is a red head freckled cute girl that has had a crush on Josh since freshman year. The summer of their senior year, Isla runs into josh at a local shop in Manhattan where they both are from. They finally get to talk and spend some time together where they flirt. Isla hopes to see him again there the next day or later in the summer but there is no luck so she goes back to school in the fall wondering what she did wrong.
Josh comes from a family of well behaved people. His father is running to be a senator and Josh has to seem like a well put together child. Josh goes to the academy in Paris as well as Isla and he tends to act out a little. He is a wonderful artist that will go anywhere to doodle people, work on his art, and write his memoir.
I really enjoyed the entire book and I thought the relationship between Isla and Josh was really cute and realistic. I enjoyed reading about the happy moments as a couple and also the struggles they had to experience. I think Stephanie Perkins did a really good job of wrapping up this series and I think she probably made everyone happy with how it ended. I don't want to give anything away because I think this is a book that should be read without spoilers because you will enjoy it more. I just loved the ending and also how everyone from the pervious books that were important ended up together at the end. It was a lovely thing to read.
Thank you Stephanie Perkins for all that you do and I couldn't help but want to cry when I read your acknowledgments! I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys contemporary reads that make you attached to all the characters. I would say that you should read all of them in order though to get the full affect and get that same enjoyment of seeing all of the characters grow through each book and end up together.
To be honest, I was annoyed with the main character, Harper Price, in the beginning. She came off as this super popular, annoying, girly girl that got everything she ever wanted. School president, popular boyfriend, and soon-to-be Homecoming Queen. This all changed though when she was at her Homecoming dance. She gets locked in a bathroom with her janitor, he “kisses” her, and she all of a sudden has the gift of fighting. Now Harper is a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts. She is now supposed to protect a boy named David.
Now don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this book. By the end, it had me smiling pretty much every other paragraph. Rachel Hawkins creates a world that is a bit different that I thought it would of ended up to be. It isn't a unique world, but it was a nice addition.
Harper Price grew on me over time. She started to realize that not everything was about her and that some people outside of her bubble really mattered. She still was a little bit like her old self near the last few chapters but once the ending rolled around, you saw her true colors. She changed through this experience that she had to encounter in the book. It was a really nice character growth transition and it was done pretty well. It wasn't a quick transition like a lot of other books I have read. It gradually got there and in the end, she may of still thought a little bit like her old self. That is completely normal. It was nice to see a slow transition for once than someone that changed over night. Sometimes I feel like young adult books are keen on being quick. Like everything has to happen in the first half of the book.
Now onto the main man of the novel, David. He is this smart-ass, know it all, nerdy guy that has been competing with Harper since they were little. In the beginning, I saw him as this rude guy who was out to get mostly Harper. (I was sort of on Harper's side even though she was annoying in the beginning). Over time, you got to see him as he truly is. I really liked the friendship that David and Harper started to grow together. By the end, I was happy with where they ended up.
This book was a quick read and it was a nice step away from the complex worlds I have been reading lately. It has a lot of fighting (physically and verbally), banter, humor, love, heartbreak, friendship, and lessons to learn. It was easy to get into the groove of Harper and David's prophecy. I am interested to see how the next book goes with that type of ending. How they will be able to go on with their lives or not. I can't wait to see how the three of them work together. I would recommend this book. It was a easy read and I really liked the narrators voice (Harper) throughout the book. It made it seem more like a journal than a story.
To be honest, I read Halo when it came out in 2010. It was amazing and I remember loving it a lot. I re-read it because I bought the whole series a little over a month ago and I didn't remember much about it.. because its been four years. I enjoyed learning about the author, Alexandra Adornetto, because her writing was so wonderful for someone her age. I remember thinking in high school that I wanted to be 18 with my own book. She is just wonderful.
Halo by Alexandra Adornetto is a beautiful book with beautiful words inside it. I personally love the main character, Bethany, she is so pure and is learning so much about the human world. It is a journey going with her through this time in her mission because so many things are happening. She wants to keep true to the mission but human things are getting in the way! Especially someone named Xavier Woods.
[ WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS ]
Bethany and Xavier hit is off pretty much immediately. She doesn't for the most part reject their connection.. she just knows that it is not the reason she was sent to Earth. Oh well! They are cute together and Xavier is very sweet to her. They are spending time together and already love each other. Once she realizes that, she knows she has to tell him the truth.. that she is in fact an angel. It was really funny in that scene because Xavier is all concerned about her being too high and wonders how she got there. Then she shows him and it is really sweet. I loved the part where he gracefully touches her wing.
Hands down my favorite part of the book is when Bethany goes to the nursing home to visit Alice. It was so loving how Alice knew who she was and could only see Bethany's light. She asked her what Heaven was like and if God would forgive her sins. That was a part of the book I shed a tear. It was so nice to hear and lovely to see Alice's soul as it goes to Heaven when she passes.
Of course there is a villain! Jake is supposedly an exchange student from England. The readers can obviously tell something is up by him. I pretty much knew he was a demon the second I read about his personality and then his dialogue. Bethany doesn't know though and she just thinks she needs to help him out through a hard time. He is a smooth guy and seems to get a lot of the ladies but this is him recruiting people for his side.
Xavier gets into an accident when he was in a game and ended up hurting his angle and got a concussion. Jake offers himself to take Bethany to the prom since Xav cannot... oddly he says it is okay RIGHT AWAY. That was sort of annoying. You'd think he wouldn't want anyone going with her but he is against it being Jake. So they go to the dance and Jake tells her that he wants her then tries to kiss her. Someone takes a picture of them and Xav sees it thinking she pretty much left him.
When Bethany rejected Jake, he pretty much put it out there that he was a demon and he wanted her gone. This is a threat that she tells Gabriel and Ivy. They try to come up with something to get rid of him.
Overall, wonderful book. I loved reading it again and I am going to dive into book two next!
I learned so much about Britney in this book. The writing felt off though. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it but it all felt short and quick to the point sentences. I'm glad she was able to get her story out and I hope it will help a lot of people to see how restricted she really was.
I kept seeing the author post about this book and was super interested in the premises just based on quotes alone. Of Mist and Shadow was a super fast read and I read it in one sitting. The main character, Tessa, is brave, strong and would do anything for her family. She has been chosen to be the fae kings bride after being caught stealing from him to break the Mist King's curse on the world.
Overall, this book was a really good starting point for the series. The characters have room for improvement and I am interested to see how the story continues. It is pretty predictable but I feel like most “captured by the fae king” books kind of are. I really like the Mist King but I wish we got more POV chapters by him. They were super short and sort of pointless since they didn't give you too much information that Tessa didn't already know.
If you're looking for a new fantasy fae book to pick up, I would pick this up but I wish I knew when book 2 came out! Thank you NetGalley for giving me this ARC for my honest review.
I'm definitely going to pretend that epilogue didn't happen... mostly because I loved the story of Eliza and Silas. It is a really cool way to end a stand-alone though. I saw the author wrote another epilogue though... I need it
