See allI really loved this book, but if I'm being objective the writing isn't the best. Usually I'm fine with letting my emotions cloud my ratings but even I couldn't justify more stars on this one... I'd still recommend it to any other fervent “books about books” aficionados out there though!
The characters and the story were all nice and cute, which is exactly what I was expecting from this book. I do wish I had read some Austen more recently to really get more out of all of the analysis of her work because there is a LOT. (You will definitely be seeing some of her work in my “currently reading” section soon
I kind of want to give it 1 star for Miryem, Wanda, and Irina not running away to live in the cottage together as witches, but whatever this ending is FINE I GUESS.
This is one of those rare times i think “this would make an awesome movie” I liked the story, the plot, the characters, but there was just something... off about the writing... i think it was a little boring maybe? Not the story, the story was anything BUT boring... but something about the way it was written was....a yawn. I think maybe it tried to take itself too seriously or not seriously enough? actually I think this is a YA book trying to disguise itself as an adult story. It should have just embraced the ghosts!!! And ditched the coming-of- age-ness of grown ass adults covered up with stuffy language. I really did enjoy reading it though! Also something about the witty banter (so good!) makes me think the writer is made for screen writing instead of novels.
Bradbury's work continues to transcend time and provide painfully relevant and thought provoking material.
