Great audio production. I didn't like it as much as some of her other books, but the plot was solid and one of the twists surprised me.
This was a really striking novel in verse focused on a queer community in Berlin during the Weimar Republic era. You can't help but hope for a happy ending! The setting was interesting, the verse was expressive, and the characters were indeed dazzling. Would definitely recommend.
Thanks to the publisher and Libro.fm for the alc!
I think I actually liked this one more than the first one! Also, my hunch was correct smirks.
I'll definitely return to this world to see what's next for Winnie and Jay.
Loved the message! I think it's important for young people to realize that you can follow your dreams,
AND change your mind if the reality of your dream turns out to be different than you thought.
This one took me a while to get through, not because I wasn't interested but because it was emotionally heavy. I really cared about these characters, so it was difficult to see them go through so much hardship. I thought it had a great structure and pacing, and I thought the ending was great. Excellent audio production.
This was a sweet, romantic, magical, and weirdly realistic high school tale (despite the magic). Engaging art with a lovely and diverse cast of characters made this a win for me. Would highly recommend!
Many thanks to Libro.fm and the publisher for the arc!
There were some great characters and lots of action, magic, and political intrigue with time to spare for a swoony and complicated romance. I would def hand this upper YA to fans of Maas, Armentrout, Garber, Kemmerer. I will keep an eye out for the next one!
Really interesting concept! Steampunk Frankenstein in Mexico? Very original. I liked it, but I did feel like it skipped around too much, and the art wasn't as engaging as I'd hoped. Would still recommend.
Yessss give me a heroine with a mission and a tortured prince in a moral quandary any day. Exciting, heroic, swoon worthy.
An interesting mix of mystery, sci-fi, and horror that doesn't completely deliver in any of those spheres. I like an unreliable narrator and there was some great psychological suspense, but I spent a lot of this book having no idea where it was going. It did wrap up nicely, if at a break-neck pace.
I loved this interpretation of the pantheon! The art was engaging, the modern twist was appealing, and the story was romantic and intriguing.
I think a young teen who has an older sibling or someone in their life struggling with addiction could really benefit from this story. It was lovingly and realistically told, and I appreciated the ending.
I really liked the art and I thought it was a good fantasy story. I think a little more time on the world-building or characterization would have gone a long way to make the magical combat less confusing, but I thought the concepts were intriguing. It ended on an unexpected cliffhanger, which kind of dampened my enjoyment at the end. If it was longer/more complete it would give me major Shadow & Bone energy. Overall, a solid pick for high fantasy GN enjoyers.
Engaging art, relatable characters, and typical Jason Reynolds brilliance and humor. No complaints!
I did really like the vibe of it, and I thought the story was interesting. That being said, some of the panels left me confused and I thought the ending seemed a bit rushed.
Many thanks to Oni Press for a digital arc!
I loved it. The characters and the art were so engaging and I thought the “moral of the story” was highly satisfying. It may have been a little simplistic at points, but fans of Zelda and/or fairy-tale retellings will appreciate the plot.
This was actually a lot heavier than I thought it was going to be, but I really appreciated the honesty and the messaging. I think teens could use this as a reminder that uncomfortable situations don't last forever, and that many people are probably feeling similarly to you even if they don't say it out loud.
A beautifully told modern fable. I was invested in Lizzy and her quest, and I would definitely read more of her adventures. I really enjoyed the art for the most part, although I thought the combat/magical panels were weaker than the others.
There was a great spooky atmosphere that kept me going through most of it, but I didn't love how it all resolved. Definitely worth a read if you want an atmospheric psychological sapphic horror story! I liked it, but I didn't love it as much as TRHT.
I think I liked the concept more than the content of this one. Four distinct young women with their own problems, ambitions, etc. come together to pull off a grand heist. Sounds epic and the cover is really eye-catching. Unfortunately, I didn't think the meat of the book stood up to what was promised. The heist part was a little underwhelming, the drama of the actual Titanic sinking read kind of strange for me, and I think the characters could have benefited from a little more development. A fun quick read, but not as gripping as I had hoped for based on the description.
This was so interesting and weird and original and I don't really know who else to give it to, but I'm here for it.
