See allI can see why people would like this book, but it is not for me. The character was so selfish and flawed and I was bored throughout it. It is unique though, and it is a great depiction of severe depression and withdrawing from the world. I was most interested in her family life. She didn't seem to have any personality, but I guess that can be attributed to the fact she doesn't want to give any shits.
Does this girl not vomit? Or have really bad pain days? This book is alright but it feels unrealistic most of the time. There love did feel genuine, like it would when both your lives are on a string. But as a person with chronic illness and a bit of hospital stays, it feels.. too polished.
This book was a very nice adventure, though there are some tough spots and some themes that hit hard. The main character is very relatable and all the characters she meets are charming. I really liked the boys she traveled with.
.
Little bit of a spoiler.
The only thing that had me wondering was how they didn't find her sooner. Like what are these police for?
This book is okay. It was a nice, light adventure through space and pop culture. It feels like what it set out to be. Nothing more, nothing less.
What I liked
- the battles were really engaging and well detailed. You knew what was where and what was happening at all times.
- the friendships and relationships, besides the romance, were written very authentically. The mother seemed really cool.
- the whole premise was out there in a good way and loved the idea of training everyone with a game.
What I didn't like (SPOILERS)
- the love interest. He must be the smoothest talking guy around if he can land a girl how he did. It didn't feel nessisary to make her anything but a friend. Even in this climate.
- I wanted to know more about the dad. He seemed really cool, but then one dimensional. I wish I could have felt more for him before the ending
- the ending. Okay, so the guys who wants to protect Earth is the bad guy because he wants to fire a weapon? They just wiped out millions of people, destroyed so much. But he's bad? Also, hey we were just testing you here's some medicine to heal everyone, wel help now after we messed everything up and killed people you love. This might create some weird distopia but it's fine. Could have just not bothered your planet but hey.
This book makes the whole experience seem non fiction. Like it is really happening. It bases so much on science and flawed human ideals that it makes you feel like your there. The dinosaurs are on your heels, and your living the experience.
Excellent read. Much prefer over the movie.
