The book takes place in 2065. The word has been taken over by an alien race called the Kurians. They need to devour blood and auras to live longer. They have bred Reapers to collect these for them. The world is in shambles and a some people team together to try to fight them. David Valentine is a young recruit who wants to avenge his parents death at their hands but also winds up wanting to avenge others like him. In order to succeed they get extra powers “wolflike” to help them in this pursuit. The Lightbringers who are also from the Kurian race help them when they can, mainly by giving them these powers. Not everyone can handle them. There are a couple of different types that are made Wolves, Cats and Bears. David is a wolf and moves up in the ranks of the militia that is formed to combat the Kurians.
I enjoyed the beginning of the book but it dragged a little in the middle. Too much military stuff for my taste although I understood its significance. But by the end I really enjoyed it. I will read the next book in the series.
Considering this a young adult book it was really good. It was a different type for the younger kids, clean and not too scary. I'm going to recommend this to my niece.
This was a wonderful book. So much imagination. I'm going to go get the next book in the series.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable book. It is set in 1860's England and Veronica Speedwell is a feisty heroine who won't let any one get the better of her. Stoker is a perfect partner for her. I am really looking forward to the next adventure in the next book. Very reminiscent of Parasol Protectorate but is not steampunk at all. Just the tone of is similar.
This was a really good story. Dealing with many supernatural elements the main one being ghosts. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
The drawings are beautiful and the story is intriguing.
This story continues with Maiko trying to escape the Inquistrix but comes back to protect Little Fox and the human woman. Maiko has a vision of her mother who we find out her name which is Moriko. Her mother whispers a name to her but we do not find out what it is. Maiko continues on the run with Little Fox who tells her she is afraid of her and Maiko states she is afraid of herself as well.
This was provided to me free from the publisher for an honest review.
This is a short story I listened to on Audible. I loved it. I now need to read the rest of them.
It is a story of timetraveling, this time to Christmas Day 1066. They are there to not change history but to observe it. Not to interact but when a family is found in need of help, they cannot ignore the people. Will this change history?
This was good. I saw the movie first and resisted reading the book. It refreshed my memory on the storyline from the movie but it had a few differences or should I say clarifcations of the characters basic natures.
Rini lands in a pond behind Home for Wayward Children. She comes from the Land of Confection. She finds out that her mother Sumi died in this land before she was conceived. That is why she is starting to disappear. She must race to undo her mother's death so she can exist. This was such a fun episode in this series. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Maika has escaped and is trying to get to safety. She escapes just before the Mother Superior's Inquistrixes arrive to claim her. She is traveling with a human, one of the other alien hybrids and Master Ren a cat who can talk and has two tails. I assume he is another type of alien?
The drawings are really well done and beautiful and grotesque sometimes.
Looking forward to finding out what happens next.
I was given this book free from publisher in exchange for an honest review
Oh boy this one was chock full of surprises right up to the end. Mac is in trouble again. I cannot wait to read the next one to find out what happens. The end does not wrap up the story and leaves you on a cliffhanger so have the next book ready.
This was great. the series is still going strong. I think I enjoyed this more than the previous book.
This was a strange book. I almost gave up approximately 20 percent in. That's when stuff started to be more cohesive.
There is a guy who is called Father who has a lot of adopted children, and he has a library section for each of them to learn. Carolyn, who is the main character, is a bit off the wall which we learn why later. It turns out that Father made them immortal, and he is a supreme being of some sort. Carolyn gets Steve involved in her schemes and weird stuff happens. I can't tell too much or it will spoil the book.
I loved this book. I wasn't sure about the beginning because it was a bit off putting at first. But I wound up loving this world. I am looking forward to reading more about it.
This is a cross stitch book centered mainly on the theme of crafting but with side geeky tangents. Most of the patterns are fairly simple and straight forward. I didn't find anything improper about it but then I am not easily offended. I have quite a few patterns earmarked to do soon.
This was an amazing book. I cannot wait to read the sequel.
Mia is the daughter of a hanged traitor. Her mother and brother are in jail. They try to kill her but something strange happens and she gets away. She has gifts that no one can image. She travels to join the Church of Blades and become the killer she has to avenge her family. Along the way she has to make many hard decisions.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this book but even though Mia is a killer you will still root for her.
Even though I started with the 3rd book in the series I don't feel like I missed too much of the main plot points of the past two books. Lila Sterling Merriweather lives in Cloudburst Falls a tourist town famous for its “monsters” like the Lochness that lives in the river, it seems its like an octopus. They never mention too much about other monsters except for Copper Crushers which is a type of snake.
There are magical families that run Cloudburst Falls who are constantly warring with each other. Lila has been taken in with the Sinclair family and whose boyfriend Devon is a part of. Victor Draconi is the head of that family and is intent on being the only Family in charge no matter what it takes.
The characters are very well fleshed out and the world is glossed over a bit (probably because it is the 3d book and that would have already been addressed) I enjoyed this book and wish I had started at the beginning.
This is a good book for a young adult reader as the most the characters do together is kiss.
I received this book free for an honest review in return from the publisher.
Thomas Khatt is just minding his own business when his neighbor who dies in his arms turns him into a mountain lion. Now Thomas has to figure out this new world involving animals who can talk and become familiars to witches and wizards. There are quite a few funny characters in this book like a pyromaniac squirrel. Everybody seems to want Thomas for their own reasons and he has to try to figure out who is being honest with him and who is just trying to use him.
It was a fairly quick read and the world was pretty well fleshed out. I hope to read more of the series. This was a good first book for a series. I can see where they might want to go with the storylines.
Strange book. Hard to grasp at first. The beginning was tough but towards the middle I was enjoying it. Not best book I've read but was good.
Ivy Kincaid is being sent to Nocturne Falls to marry Hank Merrow from a rival werewolf clan. Even though this is an arranged marriage to help call a truce between the two clans, both Ivy and Hank decide to make it work. Ivy has a secret though and knows this will all blow up when Hank finds it out.
They get along wonderfully and are very compatible. Ivy is as honest as she can be with Hank and tells him stuff her father told him not too. I really enjoyed this story. It is light and fun with some sexy times in it as well.
I really enjoyed the world that is introduced. Children fall through doors to other worlds and then when they get back to the real world they miss the old world. They are put into a school that is supposed to help them readjust to regular life. Their parents don't know that the head mistress of the school understands them better than they think as she has done the same.
Briddy Flannigan is thrilled when her boyfriend Trent wants them to get a new technology implanted that is supposed to bring them even closer together. But when she starts hearing someone else instead of Trent she is very confused. Does it mean that Trent is not her soulmate? Is it the other person. Along with add her very intrusive Irish family who bug her constantly at work, at home. She cannot think straight.
The first part of the book seems a bit slow but around the 1/3 mark it picks up and then I really enjoyed the ride.
I enjoyed this book. It was a bit slow starting but gets more complicated and interesting from the middle to the end.
