This is probably my favorite read of the year so far.

A story that is so beautifully written and romantic. You may not agree with the actions or thoughts of characters, but you understand them. The author understands his characters so fundamentally and is able to bring them to life with just words on a page. Sure having seen the movie helps bring to life the characters you do know, but there are different aspects in here and they were just as clear in my head as if they had been in the film as well.

My favorite thing about this novel is definitely the writing style. It matches so well with the lyricism of Sufjan Stevens, that I was able to throw on any album of his as I read this.

Truly a wonderful read that enhances the movie in my eyes as well.

A Sci fi Romeo and Juliet told through alternating chapters of action and letters.

The letters are by far my favorite part to read. The Sci fi action of it all, although seemingly good, just isn’t exactly for me.

Overall though, some truly great writing is in here, along with some parts that I’m ok on.

Finally broke through my reading slump. Might've been with a book I was slightly disappointed with, but it was still good.
I do appreciate how it ends, but my interest was just so in and out of it unfortunately.

This is definitely something I need to collect my thoughts on.
But to grow such an attachment to these characters. To actually feel them as real. It's just so personal and honestly wished that the final chapter just had a few more pages.

This is actually a 4.5 btw.

Would be a 3.5 with room to grow into a 4.

First book I've read front to back in a hot minute. But anyways, a great read for anyone at any stage of their filmmaking journey.
Lumet is a great director and to read his voice and takes on the art form as he takes you through the filmmaking process is wonderful.
He doesn't talk down to you from a high pedestal, but rather this just felt like a conversation from a mentor.

Great first book of 2024!
