The book would be better if it didn't have so much crap about every woman wanting to sleep with the MC, not only is it kind of ridiculous (and it adds nothing useful to the story), but it slows down the progression of the better parts of the story to a crawl. It starts to get to the point where I have to work to keep reading and not give up on the book all together. I much prefer the part of the book that switches to a woman MC because it doesn't have all that crap.
Once again, he wrote a great book that leaves me wanting more. The overall story he has created has an endless amount of directions it can go. This series is definitely a favorite of mine.
Second book didn't get any better, I don't know how much of it was this series translation, but the author seemed all over the place, things didn't connect up very well.
Authors favorite and most used words: Ding, rolling, dumb, stupid, and retarded.
Everything written sound like it's coming from a young teen, except for a few things that sound like it's from a troubled older teen.
All though I would rather it not end in a cliff hanger, I think some of these reviewers are being a bit dramatic... Still deserves 5 stars in my opinion.
I really don't understand why some people are giving this a 1 star. Just like the last book, when I got to the end, I wanted more. Great book. Thanks to the authors out there for taking a thought and building it in to a world and all the complexities that come with that. It's pretty amazing! It's sad when people can't appreciate how much goes in to it all.
It's a good book, I enjoyed it. The problem I had with it, way more character building then plot progression. In relation to the character building, it was only a tiny tiny bit of the book. I like books with a good amount of character building but it needs to be balanced. It was still a worth while read though in my opinion.
What do I ask for in a book? For it to be entertaining, but what does that mean? At the end, this is what matters to me:
• Have some kind of logic behind things.
Can have a few things happen that can he revealed later but not too many seemingly random things that can't be put together in some way.
• Have at least a few unique aspects to how things work.
Which can get more and more difficult in a popular genre.
• Don't make it too easy for the MC.
• Don't be too repetitive with anything.
• Don't be too predictable.
• Keep my interest throughout (don't have too many slow, boring parts).
• Make me want to listen to more without feeling jipped.
This can be tricky. Needs to still have a full story with a bit of depth, so if you're going to have clif hangers, just don't leave me feeling like it's nothing more than an unfinished book.
So, for this book...
It kept me entertained, had some unique aspects, and even though there was some cliche parts (which can cause those parts to be predictable), I can't say I felt bored in any part of the book.
The author did make a lot of dumb names, which can be funny and I really don't have any problem with dumb names (when their funny and/or simple and to the point), but he had the MC focus on them a bit too long which kind of touched the limit on being repetitive. Also the MC was a bit too quick to anger from small things at times.
Still, over all I liked it and it checked enough of boxes to keep me wanting more.
I think quite a few of the other comments were overly critical.
I like his books I just wish he didn't lay it on so thick with extra wording in the beginning of his book.
This is a great book... For kids. It's a bit too simple for most adults. If I would have known it was written more like a kids book I would have skipped it, however nothing really indicated that it was a kids book.
I liked the story but I didn't like the authors political lecturing, it's like he got in an argument with someone and wanted to vent all his believes in to his story where no one can argue back. Yet the only way his believes actually work is in this fictional story, where you have machines that can know when people are lying, little nanites that can take out the terrorist and people can easily vote using their implants.
Great story, a bit long winded, looks like the next books will even be more so. Which I don't mind as long as I enjoy the story. No real lead up, the bit there was kind of fizzled out without much happening directly related to it, what did end up happening kind of came out of no where.
Even though some things didn't quite flow the way that is expected in a book, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
