So, it is quite obvious that I LOVE this book. It is SO well written and I can really understand why this is a masterpiece, because it is.
Many, many people are talking about the fact that King used way too many words for this story, that he has passages in his book that aren't of any value to the story. For sure, it has lots and lots of information. But for me, it added to the story, to my thoughts about the book.
The characters
Since the very first time I read this book, and watched the movies, I adored Richie and Eddie. Eddie is my favourite. I love his method of thinking and I can kinda relate to some of his fears. The friendship between all of the members of the Losers club is amazing and wonderful to see.

I absolutely adored this. Oh, and I finished my O.W.L.s with this book. So I'm an alchemist now! :p
Paul van Ostaijen zorgt toch wel voor een unieke ervaring als het gaat om poëzie.
Ik heb zeker niet alle gedichten begrepen, maar dat hoeft ook niet. Dit is bijzonder.
Spannend, spannend, spannend. Dit boek laat je niet meer los totdat je het volledig uit hebt en zelfs dan houdt het boek je nog in zijn/haar greep. Wauw, dit boek was goed!
Bedenk je eens dat een groepje hackers Nederland onder water kan zetten. Ben jij dan veilig of overstroomt jouw stukje Nederland? Dit is een vraag dat je je toch wel stelt wanneer je Het CARPA complot leest. Dit komt mede omdat Heleen het boek heel waarheidsgetrouw heeft geschreven. Ze draagt feiten aan over de waterkeringen en de dijken van ons kikkerlandje. Deze feiten zorgen ervoor dat je als lezer een onrustig gevoel in je buik krijgt, een spanning.
Tevens geeft dit boek je een angstaanjagend gevoel, omdat veel mensen bang zijn dat de dijken een keer breken. Dit onderbuikgevoel roept het boek al heel snel op.
De personages in dit boek zijn goed uitgewerkt, vooral als je kijkt naar het personage Quint Ruys. Dit personage is vreemd en intelligent en dat trekt de aandacht van de lezer.
Heleen heeft een vlotte schrijfstijl en dat is in dit boek goed te merken. Als lezer vlieg je door het verhaal heen, want je kan en je wil niet meer stoppen met lezen, omdat het zo spannend is geschreven. De schrijfstijl is niet heel lastig en door het simplistische van het taalgebruik lijkt het net alsof het boek de echte wereld is. Je hersenen kunnen werkelijkheid en fictie niet meer uit elkaar houden. Als een boek dit kan, dan is het werkelijk een fantastisch boek, vind ik.
Het CARPA complot krijgt van mij vijf sterren. Dit thrillerdebuut is fantastisch en ik raad iedereen aan dit boek te lezen als je echt de tijd uit het oog wil verliezen, als je even weg wil uit deze realiteit om in de realiteit van dit boek te ontsnappen.
Chapeau Heleen. Ik ben benieuwd naar alle boeken die je nog gaat uitbrengen.
Perenbomen bloeien wit is het meest emotionele boek dat ik dit jaar gelezen heb.
Het gaat over Kees en Klaas, een tweeling, hun vader, hun jongere broertje Gerson en hun hondje Daan. Al sinds dat ze klein zijn spelen de kinderen “zwart”. Een spel waarbij ze een doel afspreken, dan hun ogen dichtdoen en proberen om bij dat doel te komen. Degene die daar als eerste is, heeft gewonnen.
Wanneer Kees, Klaas, Gerson, Vader en Daan op een gewone zondagmorgen met de auto naar opa en oma gaan, gebeurt het ondenkbare ... Ze verongelukken. Dat is het moment waarop voor Gerson de wereld voorgoed “zwart” blijft. Hij kan niks meer zien en moet leren om hiermee te dealen.
SPOILER ALERT:
Toen ik erachter kwam dat Gerson het bos inging, samen met Daan, en ging zwemmen tijdens de onweersbui kreeg ik een heel angstig gevoel... Gerson kwam niet meer boven ... en arme Daan bleef wachten totdat Gerson weer boven zou komen ... dit gebeurde niet. Gerson kon het leven niet meer aan en beroofde zich van deze privilege. Ik heb tijdens dat deel van het boek zo hard gehuild en ik wilde de tijd terugdraaien naar het moment dat ze nog geen ongeluk hadden gehad en ze nog (grotendeels) gelukkig waren. ;-;
Door de wisselende perspectieven van Kees en Klaas, Gerson zelf en hun hondje Daan krijg je een goed beeld van hoe iedereen met deze conditie omgaat.
Het boek was erg ontroerend en ik raad deze ook zeer zeker aan, ondanks dat het een jeugdboek is.
Echt een heel goed boek. Ik heb het boek nu twee keer gelezen en nu vallen dingen veel eerder op. Ik begrijp het boek ook beter.
In short:
- Mirror, Mirror: three stars. Really enjoyed the first story. Had quite a unique take.
- An ax for the storm: DNF. This was my least favourite story in the entire book. I just couldn't get into it.
- Oh cruel darkness: four stars. Great atmosphere, good story.
- She's come undone: five stars. SO FREAKING GOOD!
- One last breath: four stars. Fun story!
- Once upon a storm drain: three stars. I just didn't connect with this story as I did with others. It was still enjoyable though.
- (Hair)suit: two stars. Not my cup of tea. Actually wanted to dnf (oops).
- Perfection: three stars. Loved the music vibes.
- Stay with me: five stars. SO SO GOOD! Loved every part of it.
- Whistle for me: three stars. Actually enjoyed this one! I didn't expect to like it tbh.
- The seventh crow: two stars. Just meh.
- Sleepwalker: two stars. I was pretty bored throughout this one. But still liked the ending.
So overall, I still give the anthology three out of five stars. It's a solid read and I loved the twist on the Old Wives' tales. The stories are short and fairly easy to read. Some definitely had scarier vibes than other stories, but overall it was a good creepy read.
If you like anthologies this is definitely a book for you!

Wauw!! Wat een boek! Ondanks dat het in het begin moeilijk was om in het verhaal te komen geef ik het 4 sterren. Toen ik eenmaal in het verhaal zat wilde ik niet meer stoppen met lezen. Het was spannend, het was vies, het was modern en het was UNIEK.
De schrijfstijl van Thomas is fijn. Het boek las makkelijk weg.
Het boek gaat over het dorpje Beek dat in de greep wordt gehouden van de Wylerheks.
De Wylerheks is een vrouw uit de zeventiende eeuw en ze heeft dichtgenaaide mond en ogen.
Iedereen in Beek weet dat je nooit de ogen van de heks mag openen.
Dit boek heeft veel spannende momenten waardoor je niet meer wilt stoppen met lezen.
Het heeft de nodige plot twists en duidelijke inleiding en een eind van heb ik jou daar!
Ik raad dit boek aan iedereen aan.
Okay, I wanted to post my review YESTERDAY, but my messy brain is just plain stupid and I totally forgot to upload the review.
Okay, so before I officially get in to my thoughts on this book, which are insanely positive, because I loved every part of it. I just COULD NOT stop reading. I flew through the book.
1. PLOT
The characters have ‘weirdness' in their blood and this plot was kind of weird at times, but in a good kind of way!
When reading the book we follow our two main characters: Quincy and Lily: the Swansong twins! The world has changed, so much, you won't recognize it. The changing happened because of a obelisk with an inscription written on it in the midst of the dessert. It is a message from Deus (God). God is really disappointed in humankind and he no longer wants to be apart of the world as it is right now. He left humankind to rot. (I can actually totally understand if this would happen in real life, because the world has gone to shit).
So basically after God left the world has grew even more shittier! Creatures that wouldn't dare to walk on our planet came from the darkest places. Imagine vampires, ghouls, demons and more being a part of your everyday life, for the oncoming three years. (Sounds like a great place to live, right?!)
Then we learn that there is a legacy: The Swansong family! Yes, our beloved main characters are important, luckily! The twins will have to solve the riddles and face many kinds of danger on their path to seek redemption for humankind when also trying to figure out if certain characters are their ally or their enemy.
2. THE CHARACTERS
I loved all the characters! They felt like a human being, a real person. They are intelligent, funny and very, very brave. They have a full personality! It's refreshing to read a book with great plot and great characters! <3
Even though we follow Quincy and Lily we also get to learn secondary characters, whom have a personality AS WELL! (Freaking amazing, right?!)
3. THE WRITING
Okay, I may have spilled already that I LOVED the writing style. It really sets the tone of the story and just in general of how good this book is. It was so much fun to read the story and to connect with the narration style.
4. CONCLUSION
It may be clear, at least I hope so, that I freaking adore this book. It's definitely one of the best books I've read this year.
The author can be so proud of himself for writing a story that won't be forgotten soon. It lingers, which is great! I personally love when I read a book and it stays with me forever. :)
The Swansong Conspiracy will definitely keep readers on the edge of their seat until the very last page, until the very last word, until the very last dot on the last page. It was so insanely good.
I highly recommend reading this one! :)

Even though it doesn't (really) have a plot, it's so enjoyable.
I enjoyed the beginning of the story so so much! It was great, had a bit of tension and some funny parts, but the ending bored the crap out of me

I really enjoyed it! For a debut novel this was just perfection. The characters are INSANE. They are so well written. It can be really intricate as well, but overall the characters are exactly what I hoped they would be!
And then the world building: chef's kiss. I loved the world building in this book. It really gave me a clear picture of what the author imagined what the world should look like. The world definitely added to the setting of the entire story. It was perfectly done in my opinion.
Lastly ... the writing style. Again, phenomenal. The writing style is really beautiful and it really made me want to keep reading on and on and on. I could not stop reading, because of the gripping writing style.
Overall, I think I would lie if I'd say I liked it. I did, but I liked the book more than just ‘like', I LOVED it. I can't wait what else is to come in this world.
