Jake Green received a package from a mysterious stranger. He made the mistake of opening it. It contained a severed finger. Now, a grim reaper is after him. His only chance is to get to the Embassy of the Dead to plead his case before the reaper catches him.
I loved this. It has the perfect spooky vibes for this time of year. The characters are fantastic and I want more.

Romy is a courtesan in a land where magic is forbidden and its use will get you killed. She isn't just any courtesan, she belongs to the Shadow Lord, a man trying to bring the comforts of life to the poor as well as the rich. Romy truly believes he can make the world a better place.
Until her brother uses magic to steal. Her relationship with the Shadow Lord is the only thing that can save him. But it will cost her everything.
I loved this! Forbidden magic is a trope I am always ready for. The characters are great and I'm excited for the next one.
Fable's mom died four years ago. That's also when her father abandoned her on an island full of thieves. He told her that if she could find her way back to him, then he would give her what belongs to her. She almost has enough stashed to get back to her father, but on an island of thieves nothing is safe for long.
I was really surprised by how much I loved this book. I usually go for books with a lot of magic. This isn't magical, but it is fantastic. I loved the characters and I loved the story. And with this ending, I can't wait for the next one!

During the Napoleonic Wars, the HMS Reliant captured a French ship. Captain Laurence was stunned to find a dragon egg on the ship. Dragons have been used to aid aerial combat in the war, and are very important. Captain Laurence has limited dragon knowledge being a Naval Captain and is not quite sure what to do. He will just have to get the egg to the Aerial Forces before it hatches. Unfortunately or fortunately, the dragon has other ideas.
I really enjoyed this one. I have read so many back list books this year and wondered why I waited so long to read them. This is one of those gems. I love Will and Temeraire. I love all the dragons, and the crews. It's definitely a series I will continue.
This book is amazing! I loved it so much.
Nine years ago there was a bloody revolution that left many orphans behind. Two of them grew up together in an orphanage and mourned all they had lost.
Before the revolution, only Dragon Lords (highborn) could be dragon riders. In this new world, any class can test to become a dragon rider. Lee and Annie will never forget the day they lost their families, but becoming dragon riders would allow them to help protect this new world they believe in.
I loved the characters, the dragons, the politics, and everything else about this book. I am very sad that I will have to wait until March for the next one.
If you're like me and love fantasy and aren't a romance fan, this is for you.
I was so excited when I heard about this book. The Iron Druid Chronicles are one of my all time favorite series. I was really happy to return to this world. At the same time I was skeptical since it's different characters.
I ended up really enjoying it. I love Al. He reminded me of Owen. I love this world and the magic. And I love the humor. I tend to avoid humorous books. I prefer morally gray characters in my fantasy, but Kevin Hearne does humor so well. I need to listen to this on audio when it comes out because I think it would be even more amusing.

Soraya was cursed at birth by a demon. She has poison running through her veins. She will kill anything that she touches. She must stay hidden with only her garden for company.
News reaches her that a demon has been captured and is being held in the dungeon. Could it possibly know how to cure her?
I loved this book! I loved the characters, the story, all of it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I guessed right away who the villain was.
Nikki Massoud is an amazing narrator. I would love to hear more books narrated by her. She made this book even more enjoyable.

3.5 stars
Rosemary and her sister Lois live with their parents and four witches. Everyone in the family can see the witches except for their dad. Rosemary thinks it's because he doesn't believe in magic.
Life has been going good until their mom finally lands an acting job. She's away from home a lot, their dad is always at work. When he isn't at work, there is a cloud hanging over his head. To make matters worse, one of the witches has disappeared and Rosemary thinks it's somehow making her dad worse.
Things have gotten so out of control that when Rosemary sees her mom and the witches pass right through the wall, she knows she has to figure out a way to get through so she can help her family get back to normal. She enlists the help of her sister and her friend Adi and they set off on an adventure to set things right.
I really enjoyed this story. It's a lot of fun. The characters are great. I laughed out loud a few times at Lois' “problem”. You'll have to read it to see what I mean.

This book has been on my radar for quite a while. I am so glad I finally picked it up!
This story follows Lonan, a young man who lives in a village that hates him. He was wrongly blamed for the death of some villagers years ago, his father being one of those that died. Lonan could leave, but it is not safe to be out at night and there are no villages close enough to risk it.
He stays in the village hoping that one day they will realize what really happened that night. He watches his lost love, he forages for plants for the healer, and then at night he barricades himself in the cellar because he wants to live to see another day. He dreams.
I really enjoyed this book. I saw a lot of mixed reviews, but I thought it was really good. I loved the story, and I also loved the folk tales in between chapters. I will definitely continue the series.
Cara is a traverser. She travels to different versions of Earth to collect data. She can travel to any other Earth as long as she is dead there already. Cara is unique because she is dead on 372. She only has 8 doppelgangers left.
Most of the worlds hold a different version of her life of hardship and suffering. But, they are mostly the same. Except for one. One of the doppelgangers dies and Cara can't help but think something isn't right. She sets out to find answers and finds more than she could've imagined.
This is a great book! There were so many plot twists that I didn't see coming. When I could find time to read, I didn't want to stop. This was such a breath of fresh air! So unique, so well written. I just really enjoyed myself.

Kate and her little brother are bored. Their parents are boring. They are sensible to the point of being just plain dull. Who isn't dull? Uncle Herbert. Apparently he's very irresponsible. Filthy rich, but irresponsible. Kate has never even met him. But, with her 11th birthday approaching, she decides to write him a letter. She's hoping he'll spend some of his riches on a fabulous present for her.
Needless to say, she is completely stunned when he sends her a steam train. Not a toy train, a real train. Her parents are furious, but she needs an adventure.
This is a fun, whimsical book that also has an important message in it. Want to know the message? You'll have to read it.
I really enjoyed the narrator. I think middle grade books really need an engaging narrator given the target audience. I loved the voices for Kate, and the animals.

Maia is back from her journey. The kingdom is close to war. Edan is gone. Maia can feel the changes in her mind and body. She knows that she will eventually become a demon.
I really enjoyed this duology. This ones starts off action packed and stays that way throughout the book. I loved the characters. I also loved the way this one wrapped up.

Immy and her family are moving to a tiny village in England for a couple of reasons. Her mom has a job there, and they are hoping that being away from the hustle and bustle of city life will help her father deal with his depression and get back on his feet.
Against the advice of their realtor, Immy's parents sign a one year lease on the Lavender House. The villagers claim that the menacing mulberry tree in the backyard steals girls who live their on their eleventh birthdays. With Immy's eleventh birthday coming soon, they plan to prove to everyone that trees don't steal children. It's all nonsense.
This is both creepy and heartwarming. I really enjoyed it. Perfect for middle grade fans.

Kate and Curran are tired of watching pack children die. If they can't learn to control their wolf or whatever beast form they take, they must be killed. There is a medicine, but it is very hard to get. The European packs won't tell anyone how it's made and they don't like to share. Luckily, the European packs need Curran to help them with a dispute. Curran will agree only if they pay him in meds. They all know it's some sort of trap, but they have to try for the children.
I loved this book! It was full of action all the way through. This one got me in the feels. Such a good book!
