I thought this was ok. I didn't like it as much as the first book. The pacing felt off to me and it took away from the story.
Since this is the second book in the series, I won't talk about the plot. I was thinking about rating it 2.5 but bumped it up just because I do really like some of the characters. Brangien is probably my favorite. Sadly, this book just didn't do it for me.

This is the the first Grady Hendrix book that I've read, and I loved it.
This follows a group of suburban housewives in a book club. Their lives seem pretty scheduled and routine, until a stranger moves into their quiet neighborhood.
James Harris is handsome, smart, and charming. He's also a monster.
This is very different from what I usually read so I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, but it was a nice surprise. I didn't want to put it down. I listened to most of it, and Bahni Turpin is one of my favorite narrators. I loved the characters. I also loved how the women finally took control after obeying their husbands for far too long. I'm excited to read more from this author.
I really enjoyed this one!
Veronyka has always wanted to be a phoenix rider. She grew up listening to her grandmother's stories about them, and knew it was her destiny. But, she doesn't even know if they exist anymore. She must go on a journey and find out. She has to be careful though, because being an animage can get you killed if the wrong people find out.
I loved the characters (not Val), and the magic is fantastic. I will definitely continue on with this series.
This has to be one of the most underrated fantasies ever! I don't hear people talk about it and it should be talked about because it is fantastic!
The characters are so amazing. Vintage is definitely one of my new favorites. The world building is brilliant. The magic is brilliant. So many interesting creatures, even giant rideable bats!
You should read this if you like fantasy. It is amazing!
On her seventeenth birthday, Ora feels that she is old enough to go on the annual hunt with her brother. Her mother doesn't agree. She is terrified that something bad will happen. Reluctantly, she finally allows her to go with the warning to keep her true name secret. Ora doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. Sure she's heard tales of the fae growing up, but they have been gone for ages. She still agrees to take a silver blade with her just in case.
While the hunt starts off boring, it soon turns serious when her brother makes a deadly mistake.
I loved this. I'm a big fan of fae stories to begin with, and this one is fresh and different. I love Ora, and hate Tyg. This story is great and I can't wait for the next one. I only wish it was longer.

Stories are magical. For Kaya, they are magic. With story magic, almost anything is possible. You just have to make sure you can sense a Listener, tell it a story and tell it what you want. The problem is that girls aren't supposed to tell stories or use their magic. It brings bad luck. Kaya's brother Hob doesn't believe that, so he's taught her a little bit about magic. Since their parents died, Hob is all she has left. She really wants to impress him. So, she tries some magic. Shortly after, Hob has been arrested and taken to Prima for execution. Kaya thinks she's to blame. Maybe girls doing magic brings bad luck after all.
I enjoyed this. The first half was kind of slow in my opinion, but the last half was great. I love Kaya, not so much Hob. I think Fiola is my favorite. The story magic is interesting.

Women cannot be sorceresses. They might have magic, but is not acceptable in society for a woman to be a mage. Their duty is to get married and provide their husbands with children. As soon as they get married, a collar is placed on them that takes their magic away. When they are past child bearing years, the collar can be removed.
Beatrice does not accept this. She plans to learn as much magic as she can in order to escape the collar. She has no desire to be married. She wants to be a mage.
I enjoyed this book, it just didn't blow me away. I loved the characters, especially Beatrice, Ianthe, and Ysbeta. I liked it enough that I would read more in this world.
I received a copy from Edelweiss.

But when she arrives, the place is dark and cold. The disappearance of the young boy named Tomos has left a black cloud over the mansion. It's as if all the happiness disappeared with him. Seren decides to find him and make everything right again.
This is a great story. I love Seren. She is fearless. I look forward to the rest of the series.

The Brightstorm twins have learned that their father, a famous explorer has died on his most recent trip. They have lost everything. Even though they are grieving, they can't help but feel there is something missing from the story of their father's death. They have no choice but to go on an adventure of their own to find the truth.
I loved this book! Such an amazing story. These characters are fantastic. I will definitely continue the series. This is a new favorite middle grade for me.
Lil's dream is to become a big time reporter. When she meets a ghost named Nedly at the bus station, she decides to find out what happened to him. This case could be the big break she's been looking for.
This is a great middle grade mystery. I love Lil and Nedly. Abe even grew on me. I really enjoyed this.
I had high hopes for this one. I thought the concept sounded amazing. While I thought it was decent, I was hoping for more. I wanted more world building, and more character development. That being said, I'm still intrigued to see where this goes.
