I read this book as a kid and loved it so when I saw it at a booksale I had to pick it up. A lot of the times when I re-read books from my childhood as an adult I don't enjoy them as much, but, that was not the case here.
I think I enjoyed this book more as an adult than I did as a kid. Wendy Mass does an amazing job talking about big emotions like grief, jealousy, anger, forgiveness, teamwork and friendship in a way a child could understand. I feel like adults sometimes forget that kids feel many of the same emotions as we do and I love how it is represented in this book.
One star for Nora, one star for the woman who threw the frying pan, and one star for the plot twist because I did not see that coming. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a book that I got as a blind date book, so it is not a book I would typically pick out for myself. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I think if it was any longer than 200 pages I would have had trouble finishing it.
I am really torn about how I feel about this book. I really want to love this series because I feel like it has potential, however, it continues to fall flat for me. I think my biggest gripe is the character development. At the beginning of the series I felt that all the characters were very unique and distinct, however, as the series moves on I feel like the characters are all becoming the same?? Like they all are too witty, too perfect and too angsty. I wish they had more flaws and depth that made them feel more real, I think then I would connect with this series more.
4.5 ⭐️ This book was incredibly heartwarming and unique. It reminds me of a paper people chain where everyone is connected through the little yellow house in the North Woods.
4.25 ⭐️ this thriller was quite predictable, but I had a good time reading it. Gave similar vibes to Gone Girl.
David Grann could write a book on the history of barrel making and I would find it to be the most fascinating story ever.
✨4.5 Stars✨I LOVE Awad's writing. She has such a talent for captivating the reader and making them feel like they are slowly falling into chaos. I am not really sure what happened during this book, nor do I understand the ending, but I had a great time and know I will be thinking about this book for a long time. The only thing that would have made me enjoy this book more is if I was more familiar with the Shakespeare plays referenced. Overall, I would recommend this book!
4.5 ⭐️ Overall, I really enjoyed this book and was sure it was going to be a 5 star read, but the ending lost me.
This book was not what I was expecting. Reading the summary I was expecting a very serious and intense space adventure, but the tone of the book did not match that at all. I felt that the book was way too silly, lacked plot, and character development. It did not work for me as a reader.
Additionally, I think this book could have benefited from allowing the reader to be confused. I almost wished the first 100 pages or so was written in a way where the reader and our main character have no clue where they are or what they are doing. I felt that the flashbacks happened way too soon and were way too coherent for someone waking up from a coma.
Overall, this book was fun, but could have been better if there was more editing that cut out most of the unnecessary math and dialogue, since most of the math and flashbacks didn't add to the major storyline.
3.5 ⭐️ I went into this book with high hopes and it kind of fell flat for me. I think where this book and the first book in the series lose me is in the pacing. It takes way too long to get into the plot and then a whole lot of nothing happens for 300 pages. I really enjoyed the ending but it felt thrown together and I wish more time was spent on the conclusion. At the moment I don't know if I will continue this series but I do like the characters and the world which may be enough for me to pick up the next book.
Also I can not stop thinking that parts of this book just feel like a mistborn knock off??? However, that could just be my bias since I just read that book the other month.
This book reminded me why I love reading. I need someone to wipe my brain so I can read this book for the first time again.
