I think one of my favorite tropes is “she thinks they are rivals but he is just in love with her”.
Rating this one was really hard, like I loved the characters the plot and felt giddy the whole time reading it, and I loved everything about the story. But then thinking about how last night I was reading and was like >< I can’t read this anymore, and then it doesn’t feel right for it to go on my favorites shelf. Like I don’t feel obsessive towards the story but also I really freaking enjoyed it and would 10000% read it again!
If you are looking for a fun little story about some high school kids give this one a try!!

This is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel with a beautifully whimsical story! I thought the story very comical, a little predictable, but in all the right ways!

(I am writing this part shortly after starting it) I spent the first bit having immense Deja Vu, like literally feeling like I have read this before only to realize I have this on my iPad and started it at one point and completely forgot lol ><
(After finishing it) Wow. I will say the afterword help clear up some perspectives I was getting inklings of and really appreciated it. The writing was fantastic, the plot amazing. I really love the perspective that our main character brings and the growth she incurs throughout the story. This is definitely a story I hope to read again in the future! On the favorite shelf it goes.
I would recommend this heavily ><

To start let me just say that I read this at the wrong time, I am not into the narration style and didn’t like the main character. I felt annoyed the entire time reading it and wish there was more depth.
She brings up trauma from when she was younger but doesn’t really heal from that or give it the acknowledgement it might have deserved. It’s like it was added for one scene with Rory and then nothing was done much about it after or anything more than just a briefly explaining to him her trigger.
I can acknowledge that the ending message was good, that everything will be all right you can make it through anything, but to get to that point was painful. I would have appreciated this more years ago but where I am at now it wasn’t the book for me.

First thoughts are this is not an author for me, I can respect that people enjoy the writing and can get past the no “””” but this is not for me. And that’s okay.
I get her story’s are character studies essentially and there isn’t supposed to really be plot and I enjoy the idea of that, and in the future hope to find an author that writes that and I enjoy ~ not today though lol. I liked the chess talk and the ending was nice~ and this is probably just me but the last quarter I was really hoping a character would die. I would have gave it more love possibly.
I felt the older brother was more developed and the younger was a bit lacking, I needed more from his sections of the book. Also didn’t like how the women were such a crutch for the men in this book like I get that’s how a lot of relationships end up going in reality but bleh.
If you like her other works it’s worth the read but if not this is not entirely worth it.

Compared to the first book this one was much better, I still don’t enjoy the writing style and think there is more to be desired from the imagery. The characters in the book had a bit more depth which was nice but also some connections kinda fell flat for me. The story this one had felt more worth while than the first as well, and it actually had a somewhat good cliff hanger.
I definitely get why people like this one more, but also have heard this is people’s favorite so I am nervous for the next one.
I don’t know if this book makes the series worth it if you haven’t read any but ~ I did enjoy and find it an easy read, if you like more character depth and world building I would probably stay clear though.

I went into this not really knowing much about it but was not really impressed.Like the twist at the end I figured out a quarter of the way through the book and the big reveal left me with questions of like “okay but why?
I didn’t really care for the characters they felt kinda flat to me and boring/ annoying~ especially the husband. And I would have liked more from the world building of the other realm. There definitely was a good chunk of the book that I was like … does this other realm exist or are they kinda crazy and not gonna lie I think I would have liked it more if it was that way.
I can see how people would like this but it just didn’t hit for me.

It has been a while since I read the first book but that was not a problem for this one, it picked up well and reminded me where we left off in the story.
I loved the writing and the plot was great as well. I definitely was able to guess what was going to happen in a lot of ways but it was nice that you couldn’t guess the ending entirely. Which this is probably what brought it down from a five star for me.
I enjoyed the first book a lot more but this was still a great time, I would definitely recommend!
