This book was messy, toxic, dramatic and cringe. As a reader, you get quickly drawn in by the theatrics of the main character, Astrid. Although Astrid is far from perfect, and frankly, digs her own grave, found myself rooting for her through out the book.
I described the plot on this book to friends and it sounded like more happened in the book than it actually did. Not a lot happens in the book and focused a lot on social issues, specifically racism. I can imagine if you don’t feel strongly about these topics that the book would lose you. With that being said, I still enjoyed reading it and felt that the ending was the strongest part.
