I never thought I would be reading a book that could be considered a hockey romance however this book was absolutely adorable. I kept having to take breaks from reading because I would be grinning at the book and it was too cute. I loved the interactions between the players and Eli. I'm already reading the second one.
This book was really relatable. I realized that I was bi three years ago, and I have really struggled with accepting the fact that I am bi while still being a Christian. I've been able to get over the internalized homophobia through the acceptance and support of my friends, but I still struggle with it sometimes. This book showed me that there are other LGBTQ+ Christians out there who have been able to accept that they can follow God and still love who they love. I hope to one day be able to reach the same self-acceptance as the author was able to.
I've only recently started watching Riverdale, but I have fallen in love with the show, so when I saw this comic I knew I had to read it, and it did not disappoint. I loved seeing the characters before everything with Jason Blossom, and I loved the way it hinted at what would happen without ever spoiling anything.
I could really relate to the characters in this book. I'm a Christian and I'm bi so I could really relate to some of the struggles that the characters had with not being accepted by people with in their communities. Unlike the characters in this book I am not out so I have not experienced some of the challenges discussed in the book, but some of my friends have gone through these challenges. The author did an excellent job making these characters seem real. I am thankful that this author wrote a book that covers the struggles of being queer and a Christian.
This book was darker than I expected. I won't go in to detail on that, but pretty much name a problem and one of the characters in this book has that problem. This book gives warnings about eating disorders, sexual abuse, and ptsd, and that is only some of the problems that characters in this book deal with. This book does a really good job creating realistic characters. No one in this book has a perfect life, and that makes the characters seem so much more real compared to a lot of other books. I loved the way the author wrote these characters. They were all so realistic and relatable.
The storyline of this story was really good. This novel discussed some real political issues that America is facing today. This story did not however touch on the powers of the comic character. Both Jessica Cruz and John Stewert are Green Lantern in the comic, but neither of them show any powers that are associated with Green Lantern.
I feel like this is the novel in which we see the most growth from Yuki. He's not the kid who tries to please everyone anymore. He's finally facing his past and moving foward. Kyo is also changing. At this point in the series he have finally realized that he does matter and that it's okay to want something even if he doesn't think he deserves it. Over all I loved this book and can't wait to continue reading the series.
