A darker spin on the LitRPG genre. If you are coming from Dungeon Crawler Carl, this is not the same. Lots of torture and grossness. No happy endings for anyone involved.
Overall I enjoyed the book. I almost dropped it early because of the religious bits but I kept going and while they didn’t get less pervasive, they certainly got less intrusive? It is a solid historical fantasy that starts slow but ends pretty strong.
A decent read. The characters are a bit out of time compared with the historical setting the book takes place in. Overall not too bad even if the book is a bit preachy. A lot of the messaging feels really on-the-nose, at least to me. Still worth a read but don't be surprised if you finish wishing you had gotten more from the characters.
Pretty quick read. The whole story is a long wind up to the end reveal. Mysteries abound and you as the reader are slowly drip fed information. Not super engrossing but you do want to keep reading to find out what the hell is actually going on.
Great bit of lore from Valve. The TF2 stuff was mainly rehashed comics from their updates but the L4D/Portal comics were really well done. I am particularly fond of the art style of the Portal comic. Fantasticly well done.
Great book. It's a autobiography/tools for writing book. Its easy to read and doesn't lecture you on what you should do to be a writer other than write.
