Wish there were actual descriptions of Kaijus, all we got was hundreds of meters tall, huge, large Kaiju, with multiple references to Godzilla. Other than that, all the characters sounded the same, spouting quips straight out of a bombed Ryan Reynolds movie.
The book had some moments, but was a slough to complete. Another one of my biggest gripes was the word behemoth wasn't used ONCE.
A let down. The time skip and the raised stakes ruined the premise and bogged down the plot. The weakest book in the series, but the ending was sad and satisfying and gave a much needed closure to the protagonists.
I wish Jes wasn't re-characterized as a constantly horny teenager. In every chapter she's in, she can't stop thinking about fucking the pirate captain, which was frustrating.
The first book set up a brilliant world and plot.
The second book didn't even have a single Thanquil POV, but Blackthorn and his little gang of psychotic murderers were entertaining, and they were humanized. Henry's character arc was top-notch.
The third book promised to take us to the dragon empire, and by the gods, I've never seen such dreary world-building before. The plot could have taken place at another shithole in the wilds, and nothing much would have changed. And Jez fucking died too. If she comes back in the next trilogy, I'm gonna come back and rate the entire trilogy a 1-star for what it's worth.
10/10. A very well written, visually gorgeous book, I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Feeling a bit distraught to leave Lumar and return back to reality, but my solace is I'll be visiting the planet multiple times over the course of years.
1000/100. One of the greatest series ever written, with an excellent finish! Everything has been tied up very neatly, our hunger has been satisfied. For now.
Would love to see how Cradle had advanced a 100 years after Lindon ascended. And I wonder how the political power compass will be. Will the dreadgod cultists with the exception of redmoon hall be treated like dirt? Because Lindon said something like, ‘Don't ask them, tell them what to do'. So, seeing they set his words in stone, after a hundred years I can see the cults being discriminated.

Thank goodness the first book was so bad that I dropped the entire series immediately instead of falling for the world and getting disappointed 11 books later.
Hands down THE best book I've read this year. The plot was a bit of a struggle to get into in the beginning, and too many fantasy words were tossed in without any explanation. But once you gather momentum, the world and the plot sucks you in. The characters are wonderfully written, Louis especially. We can see the relationship between him and Nina / Him and Falk grow with each chapter. The action scenes are well written, the magic system is really good too. FIVE STARS.
The book would have been better if the author had focussed on how he caught the spy instead of explaining his family feud in elaborate details. And cutting back to what he was doing in a random alley in 1994. Good premise, some interesting things to talk about, but nothing related to the fucking investigation.
The book is pretty much pointless if you think about it. This isn't really about Komboodhi people, instead it's a self jerk for the author's self insert character. The mandhravadhi and the pudhayal plot went no fucking where. Sethu's plot was laughable, and when the book ended, none of the problems were resolved. Just a pointless novel glorifying Veyanna was and how fortunate the people of kombudhi were to breathe in the same air as him.
The world building elements and the rituals that happen in the book were the only saving grace tbh.
I legit skipped 5 pages of Wayne rambling to Marasi. A little Wayne once in a while is nice, but dear gods i could not stand the “banter” in this book.
The Cosmere reveals are insane though.
Exceptional world building, but just like the first short story, the mystery is very very weak. The book practically tells us who AW is. I figured out who AW was, a loong while ago. But when the big bad reveal came, Fatma dragged on the reveal on and on and on. And the fact that Fatma never even considered that AW might be a woman, was insulting to the character, and the feminist values the book focuses on.
Except the reveal, the villainous sermon AW gives at the end, and the new nine big bads, a lovely book. Loved the world building, and couldn't wait to explore more of this universe.
