See allI heard many great things about this book, and I must admit, I absolutely love the concept! I listen to the audiobook(specifically the “dramatic reading”) and enjoyed the sound effects and different voiced characters. Unfortunately, the story fell flat for me. Murderbot was just a little too dry.
This story had a charm to it. The historical context worked very well for this story. I largely enjoyed it, specifically the cosmic horror parts. The creatures, Dr. Bisset, and the Aunties. There were some parts that dragged on for me, which was typically combat segments.
I enjoyed the way the author would jump between different story lines and characters in order to tell a larger narrative. There were multiple creepy moments that kept me on my toes, while also including the humanity of the relationship between the Eli and Oscar.

I enjoyed this book! As the many twists were being revealed, I couldn’t put it down! There were times when the story dragged on a bit, but it would quickly pick back up. The most horrifying parts were when Jane was alone in the house.
I love an ambiguous ending to anything, so I definitely enjoyed this book’s conclusion!
This book is beautifully written and there were enough twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat at times. I’m not the biggest fan of fantasy, but this was an excellent read.
