Maravilloso!
I went in to reading this book with no expectations at all, I even got it for free from Amazon, but what a laughing-crying out loud experience. I'll be brief, it's simply marvelous!
I've read a few of the one star or none reviews, I'm sorry for you, maybe it's the translation to English that makes it imposible to achieve the profound impact it has on Italian, Spanish or Portuguese readers. I was reading in Spanish Pride and Prejudice, it just isn't the same book, the marvelous humor and sarcasm of Elizabeth Bennet is totally lost, I guess it the same here.
The author makes us the beautiful gift of his soul with all that it conveys, and in the making has written a beautiful and unforgettable story.
Made feel good inside. I wasn't aware it was a short novel so I started out and before I knew it was over.
Feel good book that has a great pace! After reading an awful suspense book this was like a great big heart to the soul.
I was surprised how much I liked this story and mostly the characters. It should be turned in to a feature film. Had no expectations and now I can say I enjoyed it so very much. Totally recommend the 2 book serie
What a wonderful surprise, great in every way. Don't let the cover fool you, the novel is sometimes truly dark. So unexpected characters an stories. Can't wait for the next installment.
It started so great for me, laughing my head off, but through the book I even was tempted to DFN, here's the thing, I can't stand Laurrie's personality, she's always feeling sorry for herself, I'm glad I finished it but slightly disappointed.
I'm the daughter of Mexican Catholic emigrants who found in Salt Lake City a place to call home, I was born in that beautiful city, and have wonderful memories of my childhood. This book has took me back to that time, and even though it has left me with sadness I truly thank Tara Westover for being brave enough to see beyond religion.
What a hell of a ride, from the first to the last page. Best book I've read this year, you'll maybe catch it soon on but it doesn't spoil the thrill. I read and heard the audiobook at the same time, the narrators voice didn't do it for me through.
This is one of those books that will stay in your heart for ever. It's even more special if you take in to account that so much of it comes from historical sources. To someone who was raised loving books it's precious.
